  • Her voice is wonderful, youthful and even. Really dislike the translation- lost the sarcasm and playfulness of the song!

  • I've never seen any ugly Zerlinas... I think Ms. Burlingame is probably the prettiest Zerlina I've ever watched.

  • Is it just me, or is this aria one of the more disturbing arias for a female character. Is she being masochistic, or what's the cultural background for this?

  • Yes the translation is very conservative

  • I don't hate that it's in English, I just find the "translation" choices so bizarre. Was "Beat me, beat me, dear Masetto?" too violent for the concert audience? Heh!

"So now matter how you treat me" versus "I'll let you put out my eyes"... Doesn't quite pack the same punch. Zerlina has to take it over the top because -- as a commenter on another video of this aria observed -- Masetta would be within his rights in this time period to beat her. She has to get it back on her own terms!

  • really lovely acting! so cute :)

and zerlina has a very nice voice and fraseggio!

  • Jolie voix. La voix de Zerlina est très agréable.

    Merci

  • I don't like the English at all, but I love Zerlina's voice here. Great performance.

  • Aw, the English is cute. I guess I like the original more, but that's how I first heard it. Thanks for posting.

  • Oh la la, quelle merveilleuse Zerlina, la voix idéale pour le rôle, interprétation rafiné et sensible, une belle découverte.Dans ces conditions la langue n'as aucune importance.

  • Hi Karen, Steve Mortier here. I saw this on u tube (I was the Leporello) Is there any way to get a DVD of this? How did you get it?

Let me know when you can, and as always great singing!!
