if i'm not mistaken this was actually the exact gig where ashcroft opened for them with what was to be 6 songs off of urban hymns I was lucky enough to attend this gig. it was fantastic, ashcroft walks out to roars of applause and tells everyone to shut up cause they don't know who he is, if they did the verve would be a big band america, says noel and liam will be out shortly. it was fucking great.

While it's not directly about Ashcroft, listen to the lyrics, they quite blatantly were meant for someone and it just so happened that the Verve split around the same time and Noel, being the legend he is dedicated it to the most under rated northern lyricist of all time.
