ENS - Japanese Sailors have set off an explosion on their Own Whaling vessel.

Japanese Whalers transport Explosives at sea. The Japanese crew somehow accidentally set them off Thursday, the Inst of Cetacean Research said.

The body of Kazutaka Makita, 27, was found on the ship's deck, killed by the Japanese in the mishap.

The Japanese denied help, despite radio inquiries from the US Coast Guard.

SeaShepeherd never rammed any ships. Granted they did bump with their boardsides but that is not ramming. Ramming is a head-on collition done with a ram or reinforced bow with the intention to damage the targetted ship to an extent that it will sink. This realy is not the case here, actualy I think the Steve Irwin, being a lighter ship without reinforced hull or bow would probably be most damaged. Do not mistake intimidation and mediashow for real (antiquated) sea warfare techniques.

that 'device' was nothing more then a bit of weldede scrap iron, the 'blade' was so thin that it totaly bend and the ships portside only had its paint scratched. You can hardly call that a 'can opener'.. Now if it would be my ship I'd weld recuperated heavy steel railroad tracks on the bow under the water line like a bulge with a 30° cut angle so to pierce the whalers ship and rip its hullplate to shreds like a used tissue at a snotfest.

Seriously pal, if that captain would seriously use his ship to ram others, he won't survive very long. If you know anything at all about ships, you know that if he seriously rams another ship, especially whaling ships built to withstand antarctic ice, he loses.

I agree though, the guy is playing with lives. The lives of his own crew, that is...
