@reniisgod Must be a variety like we have here in the USA called sawgrass. It picks up lot's of silica from the soil and creates a micro fiberglass edge on the blades of grass.
@AsktheBuilder Whoa thats cool! Ha ha I like zero turn mowers, never rode one but look cool. But I would take the 4 wheel turn mowers cause we haul stuff, mow, plow, etc. We have the 1990 Craftsman LT4000 :D
i will stick to my much older models and put up with poor turning radius. i will admit that my 71 jd112 and my 71 IH cub cadet 147 have poor turning radius but they are also built much better. they are real heavy duty workhorses allot more than just a lawnmower. they can mow, remove snow, till and do whatever else i need done including pulling heavy loads. the 147 is a hydrostatic i like it allot
the first mower the lt series (older one)you used was probly the last good mower john deere made before they came out with the LA series which is a cheep home depot brand. the 4 wheel steer model is awesome that body style or the new X series is amazing! the 90's JD line up were a great running and great mowing machines, mose had kaws on them and briggs when tey were good not these new brigs that jd and craftsman use on there equipment.
Hi your tips are really good. My dad a couple of weeks ago got a John Deere Riding Lawnmower called the LA145. It is an awesome tractor and I was able to use it with ease within the first day. It has a hydrostatic transmission and a cast iron front axle. It also comes with a Briggs and Stratton motor that runs like a charm. My question for you is that we got a bagger with it and we just recently moved and the grass on our lawn is new. The chute on the bagger clogged a lot. How can I solve this?
I want a lawn tractor to start a lawn service. But my dad says we'll have to wait til NEXT SPRING (2011). I want one in the X series. My 3 options for myself is: X300, X304, and X320. But my dad dosen't want to pay that much and he keeps trying to make me choose one of those old ones. And I saw you had an X304. Which one do you think I saw should choose?
@johnsoncrater it really depends on how many lawns you are planning to mow, this really factors on how much you service it. when your just starting out you don't need a brand new mower. when i started my lawn care service with my brother we had a john deere 160 and a john deere lx188. the we eventually upgraded to a john deere gt 235 and a john deere 425 with all wheel steer, and that 425 was a champ. i miss mowing lawns! your dad is a smart btw!
I heard bob state the - 0 - turn mowers are single purpose mowers - this not so my neighbor plows snow with his and because the engine is in the rear he has not needed chains - and I am talking about 8 - 10 we had last winter and the zero turn cut his plowind time about half -- I will keep my 1964 - 9 hp Sinplicity Landlord with it's blower.
LOL.. im sorry but i happened to notice how u didnt use choke... im not trying to ruin spec effects most already know that you drove them to there or some one that was assisting you. also the pads for your feet were muddy
@john55223 The models that appeared in the scene come pre-choked. Very limited option that's now not available. The discoloration on the pads is not mud. These were optional pads offered to make the mower look broken in and used. They only offered them for about a week and strangely took them off the market.
@AsktheBuilder Pre-choked models always seem to have issues. I haven't found one yet that my parents approved of. If you ask me, they are just as much fun to ride as other models.
ZT's are great for grass cutting crews or a guy with a big flat plot of grass to keep buzzed. I will keep using my '67 Sears Suburban to do the heavier jobs.
Your right, I really didnt specify, I too am a builder, have been for 30 years- yet I can still learn from people like yourself. Your knowledge and efforts are invaluable, I will thing of a topic that would bennefit not only myself but others as well. Thank you for responding.
Sorry I thoght it was Ted, I know the vid was to show that I was just saying that people mow in straight line. I find your very informatioal and enjoy them very much even though I am only 15 keep up the great bids thanks
LMAO everybody here is talking about cutting in circles and this is right lol Why do you cut like that im a lawn mower and y use a toro With 2 levels AND this is a funny work i love my job Am proud of be a poor And humble man
ill stick with my 3hp push mower from 1978 and my old simplicity 637 from the 70s. the simplicity may not turn tight but cuts way better. for 7 hp its great. 3 blades going really fast has a better cut than 2 blades going at todays max tip speed. (slow)
One thing is the fastest way to get the circle of grass is to mow forwards and backwards. My John Deere Sabre Hydrostatic drive allows the blade to stay engaged while going in reverse when a button is pushed before engaging the transmission in reverse.
That's a good point, and that's always what I like to look at when buying a new mower or any kind of equipment like this.
If it doesn't have ways to lubricate the bearings, the spindles will wear out a lot quicker. I've turned down a few brands of mowers just for that reason, no way to grease the spindles or wheels.
If you don't see grease fittings on something, it can be an indication of sealed bearings. You gotta ask or find out about that stuff. Don't assume. 'cause you could be passing up good equipment and creating a never ending search.
You should do a little more research. They have all kinds of attachments for zero turn mowers including blowers and plows.front and rear.Grasshoppers can even have heated cabs, sprayers, edge trimmers.
Tim, i am 11 years old and starting a lawn care business. should i start out with a push mower or riding mower? My town is countryish and gas decent lawns. by the way i love your videos!

One other note: They do indeed now offer hitches for the ez-track series mowers, but they hyd. pump/wheel motors are barely adiquate for the mower itself. pulling loads is a quick way to burn one up, and replacements are almost 1/2 the cost of the mower.
I agree. My LT 155 is like brand new except for one pesky scratch on a rear fender. I take care of it like a baby changing the oil twice a season! JD, in my opinion, has made the deal with the Devil selling them at the home centers. No faster way to kill a brand than doing that.
I believe zero turn lawn mowers are bad. I cant think of anyone who mows their yard in circles. Its easy to mow in rows and if you're smart enough, you can mow with a plain rider and not miss any spots just because of the turning.
I work for a fella that has a zero turn. Peronally...I think it's the worst thing ever made. Even on a flat, dry grass, whenever you "zero turn" it,at least one of the rear wheels tears up the grass and leaves me w/ divets. Forget cutting anything remotley damp with the zero turns either. It just tears up even more. Inclines of even a small grade? Forget it. It's basically a straight-a-way cutter, made for mile wide, non grass diveting, turns!
Your video demonstrates a NEW toy and discusses the pros and cons of it. You end the clip driving off to cut more grass, implying that you love your new toy, hence watchers may well too want to consider a "new" one! You started the video out with a nice JD(if ridden correctly can easily get the job done),but you more or less implied that it couldn't,you found a new model however that could! End result, consider spending more money!! I fail to see how I didn't get the point!
Commander. You are way too passionate about this topic. Here is what I suggest. You have a YouTube account, now all you need is a video camera. Tape a video of yourself on your riding mower showing people how you cut grass and how people should maintain their existing mowers so they don't ever have to buy a new one. You are obviously wrapped around the axle, so go release that energy in a video of your own.
I can even tell you that some builders are rethinking the using of baggins systeme because of the same reason (and also because in many cases it didn't "bag" real well.
By the way, I find you tips and comments very interesting and accurates. And also very funny (why should renovations and handwork be so boring...) It show you like what you do...
Quite possibly. I am not a fan of bagging. If you cut regularly, there is no need. You rarely see thatch buildup on golf courses and they never bag.
I appreciate you kind words. There are many who feel the exact opposite. Here on YouTube we call them jealous faceless haters. :-> I sometimes add the word whiners. Oh well, you can't please everybody.
he said that because the entire wwight would be in the rear, you'll have to counterbalance the weight in the front (which is not evident on this type of tractors...)
If you buy a good quality American built mower like a Grasshopper or Hustler (with a lifetime guarantee on the deck and frame) you will have a great piece of equipment with longevity.
Tough question!!! They were both amazing. I think the zero-radius one was less stable on hills so I would probably lean towards the other. But that said, the controls of the zero-radius model are so precise that you can cut in any situation with ease. I say buy one of each and have some fun!
Oh my god, my Dad has the JD all wheel steer machine, and the zero turn machine. Except the zero turn is the Scag brand. That thing is Impressive. Made from mostly 1/4" plate steel. And yes it can tow... alot! But no front blade or bucket.
Thats one of my hobbies- collecting lawntractors- i currently have 21 of them of various makes and models/engine sizes - however i do have one 4 wheel steer tractor- a 1995 MTD Lowes special edition i plan on restoring. Its a neat hobby bringing old tractors back to life that others have discarded- why i usually get them cheep or even free. Great videos!
i have the same tractor as the first one and yes it does bother me that it has really bad turning but its got alot of power for pulling

I believe zero turn lawn mowers are bad. I cant think of anyone who mows their yard in circles. Its easy to mow in rows and if you're smart enough, you can mow with a plain rider and not miss any spots just because of the turning.
tractormandale 2 years ago
Actually, the Grasshopper ZerTurn mower, has a Sweeper, Snowblower, Plow, and a cutter. The ZeroTurns can just about do anything a Skid Steer can do.

What's more, I just returned from the Sears Editors conference and saw their 2009 zero-turn mowers. Both have trailer hitches.

i want a zero turn mower
ryan2546 3 years ago
I work for a fella that has a zero turn. Peronally...I think it's the worst thing ever made. Even on a flat, dry grass, whenever you "zero turn" it,at least one of the rear wheels tears up the grass and leaves me w/ divets. Forget cutting anything remotley damp with the zero turns either. It just tears up even more. Inclines of even a small grade? Forget it. It's basically a straight-a-way cutter, made for mile wide, non grass diveting, turns!
4chrissy 3 years ago
hey dumbass, "it leaves divits" that is why you do a K turn at the end of the strip. stop trash talking z's
1949outboard 3 years ago
your right, you cant do a full zero turn without tearing all that shit up.
prankster01234 3 years ago
Your video demonstrates a NEW toy and discusses the pros and cons of it. You end the clip driving off to cut more grass, implying that you love your new toy, hence watchers may well too want to consider a "new" one! You started the video out with a nice JD(if ridden correctly can easily get the job done),but you more or less implied that it couldn't,you found a new model however that could! End result, consider spending more money!! I fail to see how I didn't get the point!
99minerkc 3 years ago
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
You need to learn how to mow a lawn!! I don't need a zero anything mower!! People just want newer and bigger toys!! LAME
99minerkc 3 years ago
You missed the point of the video.... What a shame.....
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
I can even tell you that some builders are rethinking the using of baggins systeme because of the same reason (and also because in many cases it didn't "bag" real well.
By the way, I find you tips and comments very interesting and accurates. And also very funny (why should renovations and handwork be so boring...) It show you like what you do...
babarox1998 3 years ago
Quite possibly. I am not a fan of bagging. If you cut regularly, there is no need. You rarely see thatch buildup on golf courses and they never bag.
I appreciate you kind words. There are many who feel the exact opposite. Here on YouTube we call them jealous faceless haters. :-> I sometimes add the word whiners. Oh well, you can't please everybody.
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
lol, word whiners!! just for that, you made my day! I am sooooo going to use that.
suckerforsweettalk 3 years ago
he said that because the entire wwight would be in the rear, you'll have to counterbalance the weight in the front (which is not evident on this type of tractors...)
babarox1998 3 years ago
Exactly! Thanks for spotting that oversight. I think this is the precise reason the manufacturers do not readily supply the connect point.
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
you actually can pull a cart with the zero turn mowers.
etnies97229 3 years ago
assuming they have a place where you can connect it. Most do not have this.
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
well yea duh....
etnies97229 3 years ago
If you buy a good quality American built mower like a Grasshopper or Hustler (with a lifetime guarantee on the deck and frame) you will have a great piece of equipment with longevity.

Tim,I think the zero turn mower has a bager that looks like a walk behind bag.I think you put it on the blade deck wear the shoot is.
ryanv326 3 years ago
I can believe that would be an accessory. My old tractor has that bagging contraption. I use it to recycle leaves for mulch each fall. Works great.

John Deere is in America cheap the X300 cost 3000 USD in the Netherlands over 6000 Euro's. That's the reason why in america so much drive of these
djmarcel01 3 years ago
Tim, what mower would you rather prefer. The zero turn, or the 4 wheel steer?
platypusernumber2 3 years ago
Tough question!!! They were both amazing. I think the zero-radius one was less stable on hills so I would probably lean towards the other. But that said, the controls of the zero-radius model are so precise that you can cut in any situation with ease. I say buy one of each and have some fun!
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
What did you use for recording the sound. Was the mic attached to you or mounted on the camera?

wireless mic attached to me
AsktheBuilder 3 years ago
Oh my god, my Dad has the JD all wheel steer machine, and the zero turn machine. Except the zero turn is the Scag brand. That thing is Impressive. Made from mostly 1/4" plate steel. And yes it can tow... alot! But no front blade or bucket.
northwestvoodoo 4 years ago
Thats one of my hobbies- collecting lawntractors- i currently have 21 of them of various makes and models/engine sizes - however i do have one 4 wheel steer tractor- a 1995 MTD Lowes special edition i plan on restoring. Its a neat hobby bringing old tractors back to life that others have discarded- why i usually get them cheep or even free. Great videos!

What engines are the best ?

Hmmmmmm.... if I said gasoline, would that be the wrong answer? :->

kawasaki are the best. Then there is Kohler, and finally the usual Briggs&Stratton. However the Briggs&Stratton VanGuard is is pretty good.
