@helloo138 Some people believe you should to control the horse, to keep it from running away. If the horse spooked and would bolt away if you fell, say, on a trail, where your horse could run for miles, I'd hold on. But in an arena, you should probably let go. By pulling when you fall you could hurt the horses mouth.

HAHA my boyfriend never rode a horse before and when i took him for a trail ride on my horse magpie he was so nervous and he didnt really know what he was doing much so he tried to just trot around the ring and my horse went full gallop across the feild....all i could see was my boyfriend clinging to magpie so i had to catch them with my rope.....once i caught up to them he was yelling to stop the horse....so i did...the horse stopped abruptly and he flew over her head and into the mud....HAHAHA

I got my boyfriend on a horse once.... A 25 yr Old, ( mayb older) who we use to teach real little kids to ride. My bf tried to pick up the canter and when the horse picked up tue canter he freaked out and was clenching so tight with his legs that poor old cooper bucked. Ah, that's his issue...maybe my eyes are bad, but it looks to me like your BF is literally standing/leaping out of the stirrups when the horse goes over (and also a little late to boot). Maybe you should work with him a little on two-point and do some stirrupless riding to build up that leg strength? (just my two cents...I'm no pro, just wanna help)
