Pearl didn't come in permanately until season 7 after Frank left at the end of season 6. Season 7 was truncated I guess due to the filming of MST3K :The Movie at which time Trace left. Then Pearl became the resident bad 'guy' for good at the beginning of season 8. Pearl is okay, but for my money nobody can encapsulate total evil mixed with extreme hilarity like Dr Clayton Deborah Susan Forrester. Miss you Trace!!!!

He felt Mike was a good choice, because he was funny, and "looked good standing next to puppets." Personally, I believe Joel made a good choice to choose Mike.
