I noticed in the begining when they showed the traffic tie up that they were forming a single line. Unlike here in the U.S. where the three lanes would be jockeying for position right up to the bottleneck increasing the delay for everyone. Maybe we can learn something from the Swiss...lol
Thank God no one was killed in the accident... I salute the people who actually worked for this... the toughest work it is..... no oxygen no light... impure air...!!!! they are really great n daring people.!!
I know how crazy this will sound but all over america and all over the world public bus systme, monorails and subways and bullet triains would be cool.
Where do you get $27 Billion? According to Suddeutsche.de the expected cost as of October 2010 the price was SFr. 19 Billion, which using the Purchasing Parity Index as a translator amounts to about $12 Billion. (The tunnel doesn't cost more because the dollar is declining.)
$27 Billion is closer to the cost of the entire Bahn 2000 project, which includes the Ceneri and Loetschbert tunnels, as well as other upgrades.
This program was just estimating. Projects almost always run over budget. The ones that run under are usually the failures. We did a simulated full project for my engineering program and the only good point our robot had was that it was way under budget X(
7 billion dollars seems pretty cheap for something so risky :/

@devilpizza123 Lol you do realize it's 7 billion. That's an insane amount of money. That's more than what most companies are worth.

7 billion$? That is not a whole lot considering that the money spent in Iraq could have built at least a hundred of them..................

@platinum243125 $27 billion dollars not 7. It was completed in 2010/2011...This documentary is a bit old.
The tunnel will be operational by 2017/18.
Remember the tunnel wasn't dug by mexicans. Special machinery was used.

7 billion dollars is small money, comparing that airbus spent 12 billion building the A380
