@Markonim why if East Berlin was such an utopian paradise did so many leave? Why did people digged tunnels, jumped walls, sneaked past guard towers at the risk of being shot? Markonim have you ever been in a communist country, talked to somebody from a real communist country?
"Sometimes I try to imagine how it felt for those people. ... Getting across will get you shot.. horrible story." - Reminds me of Gaza, only gaza is much much worse. btw. I've been to east berlin and talked to elderly people 9 out of 10 said they are like DDR much better than today. I asked a lady to give me an example she said for starters we all had work, and secondly one could leave the purse on a subway and no one would take it
.. exploited. Still people foolishly (at least in Croatia) discarded socialism too easily.
It was obvious that people were mislead. Same thing happen to Germany.
Socialism should have been implemented to those who carry it - the working class. The working class itself should have been the wall that will keep the fascist out.
Vanguards are needed, I don't object to that. But I believe in a working force as a bastion that will once be strong enough to resist all fascist temptations.
Thanks for the comment dear comrade. I'd felt that Berlin wall would be a somewhat controversial topic ; P
Personally I don't need books to argue forced socialism will eventually fail (like it did). Things I do preach is that we need to enforce greater awareness to the working class. Eliminate the desire to "emigrate to capitalism". That should be our goal. But "HOW" is the big question.
I see you are from Yu. Then you know many Yugoslavs worked in the west and saw how common worker is being..
A friend of mine was a young woman living in the west part of germany when the wall fell, Her father took her to the east soon afterwords to see what it was like before they could change anything.
If you value destitution and privations then by all means glory in this bizarre nostalgia.
Just keep in mind why was the wall built - to keep westerners out or to keep easterners in?
The creation of the wall was leaders natural consequence to protect socialism from its inherent failures.
exactly. I do believe the way of life in the east was not as bad as some tend to describe it nowadays.
I also *understand* what the purpose of the wall was.
But the system had to come about with better ways to make population want socialism. Keeping them behind an iron curtain will just make them want to break free.
Similar things happened in Russia. I remember huge masses cheering for fall of USSR, although those same masses soon became heavily burdened by capitalism and many left homeless..
After all our walls are built and destroyed and all our kingdoms crumble the Higher Being shall return and mock our failures.

So Ability is a sin and any one who has it is exploited by those with need.
Need is a virtue supported by ones existence and an automatic claim upon the produce of those with ability.
