na I am correct. It is a garter snake. Look it up on wikipedia. It is sometimes called a garden, gardner, or garder. Most garter snakes are under 2 ft long but can be as long as 5 ft. I have seen some large ones and have had them try to bite in self defense. That is all this one was doing. It tried to escape first then tried to defend itself. Neat little snake. Harmless little booger.
Yeah true, he was a harmless garden snake he tied to bite me but he didnt have the teeth it was merely self defence some snakes imitate rattle snakes but arnt poisonous.
Yes it is garter. I listed in an earlier post an entire list of other common names for the garter snake and garder was among them. Actually when I was a kid I called them gardener snakes. Just another variation of the name of the same snake.
I know there some protected species or those things. But how dothey live in Northern climes. Are they poisonous or not. Two reasons why I wont hike in north eastern US. lyme and snakes. never seen so many patients with lyme in my life till I moved to NY.
Garter snakes (according to wikipedia) are the only snake that lives in Alaska. Just looked it up tonight. They are harmless. Wish I could say that about ticks.
Too bad you weren't bitten, asshole.
