  • this is shit. I can't stress this point enough.

  • Fuck the adverts!.... bring on the waterboys!

  • this song describes me and my best friend, who i will miss forever :(

  • the song says it all. xxxx

  • Para mi, una de las mejores canciones de siempre. Me hace pensar que algo mejor puede pasar

  • somewhere on here it said the song was released in 94. I was thinking It sounded more 80s and I remember it from before the 90s. But I wasn't sure 100%, memories can in some incidences be altered I guess. But I usually link music to some place I was or might have been. anyways wiki says it's 1985. Its kind of like Bing Crosby and David Bowie. I thought I saw the Christmas very very young but I guess it was mid to late 70s? When I say young I mean more like 1970 and not pushing my teens

  • @ChameleonsUKfan2012 it was 1985 got to number 26 on charts

  • Growing up, I always thought he said the hoe of the moon.

  • i wondered out in the world for years...you just stayed in your room.....

  • Would rather be in a cosy pub swallowing gallons of beer listening to this song ! ! ! aaaahhhh ! ! ! memories ! ! ! when pubs were worth going to ! ! !

  • man, that comet sound effect is beyond any reasonable limit of cheesiness.

  • All time classic for its day....Passed my driving test then rode home on my bike from test centre to get my car a 68 Austin mini off the driveway to go to work with a stereo installed for the occasion...turned on the radio and the whole of the moon was now mine.

  • Great song with amazing memos (((...

  • One of the most beautiful songs about friendship ever penned.

  • @RideHanna Genuine question, how is it about friendship?

  • @mjelf15 The song so beautifully expresses the deepest love and admiration for another, be it a mentor, parent, sibling(unlikely to be a lover as there is no reference to it) whatever the relationship the sense of eulogy runs so strong through the song. The singer gladly admits his shortcomings in paying homage to one that has truly inspired him. "I wandered out in the world for years while you just stayed in your room...the singer realizes in their friend their own redemption. Stunning song!

  • @RideHanna I saw it more of, He's seeing a girl, she is totaly in love with him, he see's it as just a fling so in essence, he see's the crescent, and shes see' a full relationship?

  • This song always make me happy!

  • a great song. if you dont like it piss off

  • Love those Beatles-esque Horns.

  • This song was released in 1985... I was twenty and so happy... beautiful song... thank you for uploading.

  • @WallyPyneoil :-) me too!

  • just class ...pure and simple, 32 yrs old n still love it x

  • They are on tour !! Brighton In March.....look out for your small town venues.....

  • This has been my favourite song since I was like 2. Whoever said the Waterboys were shit probably wouldn't know what real music is if it hit them in the face with a brick.

  • Understanding seems to me to be like looking at the moon and seeing not only the front of it, but also the back, sides, bottom and top all at the same time.

I appreciate the Waterboys for many reasons but the main one is the FACT that they brought joy to many millions of people.

It does not matter what the song MEANS so much as how it makes others feel when hearing it.

I for one listen and feel nostalgia for a time when silence meant something and hearing what another says was accepted.

  • preciosaaaaaaaa

  • heard this song in the theatre waiting for my movie to start...

  • @awkwardlaugher I did too! no idea why they played it, but it got me to look it up.

  • one of the most beautiful songs ever. wouldve loved to see them live

  • @porkerspride And coming too Norway inn March,,,,,,,Thank you for your beautiful music Waterboys!!!!!

  • I Love

  • El sonido de la trompeta me crea una esperanza en el corazón díficil de explicar.

    Es como decirme:

¡Ve, no te rindas. Lucha por todo!

  • please stop debating and just benjoy the best music of the 80s and 90s

  • awesome band

  • Certain songs define a time in your life. I was at the University at the time this was out - a definitive album of the time.

  • @cbmorgan365 so true ! This song reminds me of a life changing trip to California ,driving there through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Made me so happy to see all the beauty in the U.S. and that this song was the soundtrack. Great song !

  • the dogsbollokks brill mate nice one

  • "I saw the rain dirty valley, you saw Brigadoon, I saw the crescent, you saw the whole of the moon." This song is about how you choose to perceive. So beautiful. It remains one of my faves from the 80s. "Unicorns and cannonballs, palaces and piers, trumpets, towers and tenements, wide oceans full of tears..."

  • i really liked the lyrics, their great, not too thrilled about the music but its all personal preference

  • luv this song takes me back over 20 years :)

  • young 80's baby and this song just sums my childhood up! brill

  • well said fourkoff. every one has their own likes. an the people who don,t like it try to preach to you their shit. don,t they realise we are all not the same. anyway i love this song

  • g58 they are classes for people like you, repeat after me they are called special ed......pls do finish them......good luck

  • MON SCOTLAND!

  • @cmomofilm those scots get me excited everytime, they have the tongue, and can rhyme.

  • Just thought i'd say - That picture is not the whole of the moon.....more like 3/4's

  • Great Song!

    Mike Scott !

  • @TheHeimCrab

It's not just you, that's a beautiful sentiment and you chose a truly beautiful part of the world.

  • love it

  • My My, I thought Jennifer Warnes was the author or only one who sang it. This is wonderful. The 65 y.o. ex hippie.

  • this is a very nice piece!love the beat!

  • NANDO's can take a hike with your bloody adverts.

  • and you @Grgory58, are an arrogant tit, who wouldn't know what sensitivity was if it jumped-up and punched you on the nose.

  • I'd love to be listening to this on some windy, freezing cold night, on some Scottish isle somewhere just staring off the edge of a cliff watching the stars & the sea, but that's just me... :)

  • @TheHeimCrab

    no its not =)

  • @TheHeimCrab Sounds about right.

  • @TheHeimCrab I'd love to be listening to this in a warm day of summer lying on beach watching the infinity of the ocean with the ocean wind blowing in my face , but that's just me ;)

  • @TheHeimCrab Just don't go too far near the edge, may end in a horrible mess :P

  • @TheHeimCrab It's not just you, I've actually done that

  • il y a beaucoup d'émotion dans cette chanson

  • What is there not to love.....its gorgeous so it is!

  • @2558061 Silence is golden.

  • this song is as old as your granny,an still as nice :)

  • class

  • this track has such funny memories, me and my work collegues at the time, pissed up except the driver of course, with our arses out the windows of the car, shouting "look at my moon" all through stamford hill..the proper orthodox jews were not impressed.

  • Go see these guys live and you'll appreciate true genius.. Seen them on Pyramid and Avalon stages at Glastonbury, then a big concert in Portugal, then a small venue of 350... Perfection , each time... Keep up the good work Mr Scott...

  • I saw the crescent - You saw the whole of the moon.. Too good x

  • Fine work , Scotty !

  • great song even after all these years

  • Personally, I love the song, one of the rarer times England, Scotland and Ireland work so well together. :P

  • sorry ive been hunting down good folk music the last few days, and this shit sucks. it must be the decade...the 80s werent really good for anything.

  • @Grgory58 try THE GREAT HARRY CHAPIN

  • @Grgory58 Nah, it doesn't suck....You just don't get it. You aren't artisticaaly sensitive enough to understand the Waterboys. It's like trying to explain to somebody why a joke is funny if they don't laugh. You can't teach a sense of humor and you can't teach someone to feel and appreciate genius when they hear it. Sorry for you, Dude. Maybe you would like Peter, Paul and Mary. They're pretty simple.

  • @datsyhoehoe Couldn't have said it better myself. Some people are simply tone deaf and will never appreciate good music.

  • @datsyhoehoe Yea they're pretty good. I'm into more complex artists like Loreena McKennitt. Of course, you can only genuinely appreciate her songs when you've acquired a literary, poetic, historic and philosophical context. I guess when you're used to this senseless drone of the waterboys - well, it would be a little too much for you to wrap your head around :). This band has past the threshold of loveable simplicity and want the depth of other folk traditions. i cnt hlp but pnt this out 2 u

  • @Grgory58 ur a complete jackass shut ur cum trap

  • @dmicheal1 I win :)

  • @Grgory58 Where did you copy this from? I mean apart from the last "sentence".

  • @datsyhoehoe Yeah ! Or trying to explain the difference between Subjective and Objective.

  • @CaesiusX You got it, Little Bro! :)

  • @datsyhoehoe Great rant, but as the lyrics suggest, you see the Crescent (or) Whole of the Moon!

I also love how everyone is, sort of, suggesting it's cheesey!!

  • @datsyhoehoe I disagree about PP&M they were one of the most politically relevant and complex bands of the early 60s. At the forefront of the civil rights movement and pushing liberal ideals throughout their 40 year career. They were far from simple. They were the one of the first groups to record Bob Dylan, bringing his voice to the world at large.

  • @mimosf This is true, but I was refering more to the "Puff the Magic Dragon" types of songs that they put out on regular radio back in the day. My point was about appreciating the Water Boys, Not dissing PP&M. I actually like them alot as well. Just saying...;)

  • @datsyhoehoe It's like a Keane or Coldplay rip off! haha (joking)

Basically - Piano + Drums = Keane or Coldplay...

In fact - the new Coldplay stuff - he does all this - "Whoah woah hey hey" kinda stuff which was popular in the 1980s..

Think - Kim Wilde - Kids of America....Erasure - Sometimes - (the intro vocal - Whoah oh oh oh whoah).........

Coldplay use that device a lot nowadays....

I really love some of those Psychedlic Furs tracks - Love My Way - Pretty In Pink -

  • @Grgory58 you must be trolling

  • an absolute 10

  • This is a good morning to all.

  • Made in on to the greatest Scottish album. Jury still out

  • How I loved this song, my god....

  • my first ever memory as a baby was my mum dancing around the living room with me to this song. it was amazing

  • Truly mediocre

  • @markyboythewolf have you no soul.........I'd try and explain the mastery of this track , the emotion , Lyrics , beautiful construction, but if you don't get it, you don't get it.....We all like different things and thank Goodness for that, but mediocre Naaaaaaaaaaa !!

  • @markyboythewolf That'll be why you searched for it, then. :/

  • A truly astonishing lyrical and musical journey!

  • classictrack ..my thing......

  • class song

  • I love this song, thanks for sharing!!!

  • What a fantastic song, in a fantastic decade!!

  • Another 80's classic and one hit wonder that still sounds fresh today as it did back in '85. Where's the original video??? Listening to this great song staring at that picture is kind of lame. LOL

  • @Purple1984Rain Hi there, just wondered if you've heard the album Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys ?Since you mentioned the term one hit wonder. Bang on the ear from it is one of the greatest songs ever made. Not having a dig, just wanted to point you in the direction of another true classic.

  • @pauljones2410

Thanks for the info I will check the rest of the album out. I don't believe in North America they had another single and this one was more of a video hit not sure if it even cracked the top 40 charts. Regardless still an amazing song!!

  • @pauljones2410

    Cracking Album another 80's classic

  • Just noticed that the bass fill is the same melody as the chorus vocal in Stop Your Sobbing by The Pretenders. Yes, I am a music geek.

  • i adore this song

  • Comment removed

  • The greatest song ever, no questions asked. Love it, a day hasn't gone by in the last 10 years where I haven't listened to this song at least once. Song for my funeral and even more fitting is that this was on in the background when my daughter Sophie was born. Can't speak highly enough of this song. Love it, love it, love it!!!

  • legend of a song

  • BIG Kevin Brack !!!!!!!!!!

  • We walked in to a Pub during a night of drinkin'. I saw the Waterboys playin' at Pats Pub in Boston. I was bummed... I had missed the whole show but at least I saw em play " the hole of the moon."

  • @lectricman64 When was that?
