The Muslims at that time were not invading, the crusades were in actuality called by Pope Urban in the hopes of creating peace in Europe by uniting them against a common enemy, it was to have unfortunate consequences, antisemitism particularly, but you are right that the Crusades were a good thing, the invasion of the Holy Lands brought literature back to Europe beginning the Renaissance.

The fanatical christians considered it an invasion of the holyland because other relgions were there, not because they were a threat. Muslims typically defended christians and jews before the crusades until christianity decided to massacre them. 9/11 might not have happened if muslims never developed the a mistrust of christianity it brought.
