  • I really enjoyed this video even though I didn't understand anything lol. this definitely isn't for beginners. I don't know anything about music .. what a shame.

  • Amazing ! I still don't understand i'm lost :/

  • You so do not look like a pianist. But you're still good

  • 3:35 to 3:39 omg you played without looking at your fingers. that's professional

  • i wanna do it for my girlfriend to like me...

  • ok. all you need to know are you're chords. C, F, G, and Am. Let's play them.

    *writes a song*

  • You make it look so easy, but its really not lol

  • reminds me of Imagine - John Lennon

  • @RyoFax because of common chords...

  • wut?

  • Just wondering here, what if your song is supposed to be a pop song but you want to get the notes on the piano, would you still do it the same way?

  • that is very cool

thx man. you can play very goodand explane good.

  • awesome lesson! Very logical. Thanks a lot!

  • what keys are u playing in the 1 ,2 4 and 5 chords help !!!!

  • @ndaughtry1 ok if you playing 1,2,4 and 5 chords in the Key of C major...... 1 = C E G Aka C major

    2 = D F A Aka D minor, 4 = F A C Aka F major

  • @SuperbHerbMusic forgot 5 = G B D Aka G major

  • what if i wrote a lyrics and have a melody in my head but i dont know how to put it to the piano and by the way are ur just playing chords to make that awesome melody?

  • Hi, Can i ask you guys something, I dont know what to learn first, should i first learn the chords, the scales or some kiddy song? im self-teach myself. i don't want to burden my mother to hire me the tutor.

  • @HUTTHEMUSIC hey learning to play the piano is a gift you will have the rest of your life, and the gift of music is something you will in turn be able to offer to many people and will surely bring your mother much joy. Don't be afraid to ask for lessons. Don't shortchange yourself when it comes to the gift of music. music is life.

  • @HUTTHEMUSIC You should basically start off with simple songs, which can help you learn the chords

  • Very Well Done... I can already envision lyrics floating around around in my mind matching the sounds here.. For myself with no piano experience this video opens up a new door.

  • too bad you didnt explaind all the patterns you did a little more

  • There's a keyboard on his head!!

  • if the notes on a music sheet thats combined with a black line played like at the same time?

  • are you just listing some melodies in your head that you know you're gonna play in this video or improvising. cuz if you are improvising, you are one of a hell good teacher :)

  • Thank you! I am working to be a bit of a soundtrack composer, so I can't begin to explain how helpful this is. :D

  • wow, that's helpfull! i wish i culd play piano like that :P but still it helps me on the way with my Trance production :P thanks!

  • Oh this is what I usually do! And yeah, making a song like that isn't actually difficult at all because you're just playing around with a common chord pattern. :>

  • 2:35 ... that was not just "playing around". Dude,, that rocked ! My eyes were like this the whole time- O_O

  • Wow that sounds so easy to do and so amazing

  • what piano are you using?

  • now play just a couple chords *Makes an awesome song*....Woah.

  • This is "killing me softly......."

  • WOW! The song that u played at 6:24~6:58 is AWESOME!!

  • @17huam1 YOU are soooooooo damn right 17thuam1

  • WOW! i wrote a song using that method and it actually got published :D

  • "That sounds kinda neat" xD

  • first off... I need to learn the chords..?

  • i wish i had a good piano... i am in the royal consevetory of music with a piano worth 0$

  • you make writing a good melody look so easy

  • the melody is so sad.

  • so lost.

  • Double Camera All the Way Across the Sky

  • @bottompew123 Across the Screen :D

  • I've been taking piano lessons for about 2 1/2 years. I don't know if you would say I not on a hard level (which I'm not, level 2). I've been DREAMING of writing my own songs but its SO HARD!!!!!!! I kinda understanded this.. I watched it three times...so I'm going to give it a shot...........***RUNNING DOWN STAIRS****

  • You are really good at playing the piano... but that did not help meh.

  • Hi guys,

I wanted to let you know of a cool new piano learning device in Gizmag

    Google “gizmag pianomaestro”

  • After watching this video I have not made a song yet. This is so hard!!! I am so confused and I have watched like over 100 videos on how to write a song!!!!!! I am so frustrated! Any ideas now that I am calmed down.

  • Thanks to you i now know how to write a song.

  • YOU ROCK!!

  • Thanks for your help. seriously

  • I wanna cry... XD

  • 1:38 = EPIC VOICE CRACK LOL!

  • Hey, im producing electronic music, like trance. And have alitle understanding about scales and chords. But... When making an melodie upon an chord, lets say C major.

Can i use any notes in the C major scale, that i dont use in my chord progression to creat a melodie? :)

  • @ExtendedSpace

what you would want to do is use the notes from the chord your using at the time. lets say your progression is a simple 1-3-5 progression in c major. when your playing the chord c major use the notes from that chord (C E G) for the melody. you can use the passing tones from the rest of the scale to get to the next note. ex ( C(chord tone) d (passing tone) e(chord tone). for the most part you want to use the chord tones. you can even use the chromatic scale. (C E G f# E F G)

  • mr. understatement :D

  • wow, I'm the #30000 viewer :)

  • @bongosik you win a free ipad

  • I know chords & scales but I just don't know how to play it so it actually sounds like a chord progression instead of me playing random chords one after the other. Whenever I want to see how he does it, it changes the view :/

  • @samyoe

something you may want to add to help it sound more like a progression instead of random chords is leading and passing tones.

  • @doyaknome ok, thanks a lot - I appreciate it

  • so helpful!

  • dude! speak up louder!

  • the Homeless golden voice guy should narrate the Intro

  • Do you mind me asking, how do you know which chords should be minor? Do you just pick which ever ones? Are there certain chords which sound better minor, eg the 2?

  • @DayleKT in c there aren't sharps or flats. So playing an a chord without sharps or flats would be in minor. I'm pretty sure thats right.

  • @jandi95 well i know that. But how would I know which chords sound better minor, and which sound better as major? Is there any theory behind it?

  • @DayleKT It really all depends what key you want your song to be in, if you are in the key of C major, then an A minor chord would fit nicely, as opposed to an A major, If you were playing in a different key, such as A major, obviously you would want an A major chord, if you know your scales you can figure out what chords fit in what keys

  • @DayleKT

Pick a key to start in, say, E Major. The minor that would sound good for it is the 6th, because that's the -relative minor- to your Key. For every scale, there's a relative minor scale which goes with it perfectly. And you find it by going 3 semitones down from your key.

In the example I gave, if you started in E Major, the relative minor which would sound good with it in a chord progression would be C# minor

If you start with A major, the minor should be F# Minor.

    and so on :)

  • @HaichJay thanks alot! that's really helpful

  • omg .. so easy but sooo awesome :)

  • this really didnt help much.,

  • youve really helped me!

    thank you!! :)

  • the song is good ;))

  • i loved that you really help :D

  • wowww, you're really good!

  • Great lesson!!!

  • Wait did you make that up just then? Wow how do you improvise that quickly? I think ill stick to poetry. : ( haha

  • my oh my... thank u =D

  • damn ur good

  • you are a good man charley brown.

  • @solliedesign07 Not How You Spell Charlie

  • Wow. That was a pretty cool tune for an example. XD

You make it look way too easy. ;D

  • thank you so so much, you are awesome.. .

  • lol he reminds me of piano man "...well he slaps the bar and puts bread in my jar!..." lol facorite line from that song

  • It looks so easy when you do this and when I´m sitting there and try to create a melodie I´m feeling quite stupid. I try to learn playing the piano by watching tons of tutorials but I´m not getting any better :(

Anyway, your tutorial is really good! Thanks for uploading this!

  • @shannifan I know how you feel man lol.

  • @AaryaRevwal lo it´kinda depressing, isn´t it?! XD

  • @shannifan haha yea man, it definitely can be. I was messing around with the key of Eb and got something. Just keep playin with it man, that's the only way to get better. If you have a piano at home, be greatful haha. I have to play on the first floor of a dorm lobby, so everytime i mess up, half my dorm hears it xD

  • @AaryaRevwal uh, that´s bad! I bought a keyboard a while ago and when I´m alone I play with high volume, but when my family is home I turn down the volume so they can´t hear what I´m playing!

Well, I won't give up, but sometimes it's really depressing! :/

  • @shannifan haha yea man, just keep at it. you'll get it with practice

  • Very well presented! You explain in a way that makes it easy to follow. Thank you for posting this!

  • WOW. You are one ferocious gifted PIANOMAN! :O I can't make a melody like that (before I saw this) to save my ass...thanks for posting this!!! :)

  • You are amazing! I've been trying to write songs for a while, and I really believe in myself now that I've watched your videos! They are amazing! (: Thank you so much.

  • Wow, You're amazing! Thankyou so much for this :)

  • Very, very good tips! Bravo!

  • Thanks to you now I unleashed my writing composition block. You got the Key! God bless! :)

  • I wrote a song thx to you

  • you are musically gifted. thank you so much. this has helped tremendously

  • do u have one made easy im breaking my nuckles over here?!

  • I have now made a good song thanks to him :)

  • my alphabet ends at G

  • God Bless U

  • I'm OK with the left hand, but I struggle to come up with a melody. That melody sounded brilliant and that was off the top of his head. Wow.

  • Thanks a lot, I am going to play piano in a band and I am a bit nervous about writing music

  • i want the music sheets to that!!!!

  • Good but he should probably specify that prior knowledge of playing piano and chords is needed before watching because he does a LOT of stuff that he doesn't explain (not useful to beginners)

  • 4 words

    brill-i-ant

  • @LOCUkDk what?

  • @Tredoltle Exactly

  • thanks a lot man i'm having a lot of trouble getting started but hopefully after my first song it'll come to me a lot easier :D

  • i still dont understand that well...

  • you make it look so easy

  • fuck hes good man..!

  • If he pulled that song out of his ass damn hes good ^^

  • LOL this sounds like every elton john song

  • you have a weard hand position :D (holding them like hardrockers who throw there hands in the are and do that sort of thing with there hand xD)

  • @calvinosapfelsinos you have a weird way of spelling "weard"

  • @venomchris lmfao

  • thank you so much..really helped me a lot!!! :D

  • played guitar for 10 years - completely new to the piano.

This is a very very good inspirational aaand scaleable lesson. Thank you sir :)

  • I like that so much. You are great. I will visit your site. Thank you and keep it up for those who might be interested.

  • umm you know at 4:50 ?

i like that little composition you played and i was wondering what notes were used to play it. Because i would like to try and play it

If you could send like sheet music or something that would be great...

  • thank you very much :)

  • Thanks this is really helpful. I always thought reading sheet music is one thing, but writing your own song really shows talent!

  • u rock man!!!!

  • this helped me understand chords alot more, my piano teacher teaches me a little bit but it was like words on paper that never really meant anything, this helped alot thank you! Also I actually really liked that E flat song haha it sounded pretty =)

  • I get the 145 chord, but I could like to know more about the bridge chord and the 6 chord, anyway, nice video

  • @JCreatr Usually after a chorus you have the 6 chord which is the relative minor of the 1 chord, to help the song come back round to the verse

  • thk u so much for this

    it rly helped!

  • awesome:)

  • Cool - I'd been struggling to write songs, and I think I'm trying it back to front - trying to come up with rhythm/melody first, rather than playing around with chords first. I like your approach! Thanks for this.

  • oh my god, you are awesome!! this melody made me feel inner peace..wow wow wow...I am a beginner and i can't wait to be able to make other feels really relaxed and peaceful with my music. GOD BLESS U!

  • i want to be like youuu!!!!! i'm trying so hard to write a song write now, but i don't have your skills! i LOVE your video!!!!!

  • while he is playing the chord with one hand what is he playing with the other

  • I dont get the whole "in the key of" thing...

like Am or C or how you would play a song in D or whatever... but i do get minor seventh, major, and all that.

  • if every song was written like this then piano would be shit, although i must amitted it sounded quite nice.

  • @bhamberkiran you can change the feel of the song, like you could do a reggae ting mon, like heavy on the upbeats, or swing it to make it jazzy, etc. The possibilities are endless.

  • wow dude... thanks. That was really a inspirational video. See, me and my friends are trying to start a band but we haven't got many good songs yet... so you really helped.

  • Man you are pro.

  • I love this video.

its perfectly what i have looking for for hours.

well its no problem to play the chromatic but my variations of the pattern that i play is too repetetive

Maybe you could make a video of some kind of " licks" .. i think u call it " flavour" :D

    thx for help

  • i kinda understand better now, but like im getting confused on the chords... like what notes are in the A minor chord? or the C chord? and so on... likeeee help?? lol

  • @MegMar01 well if youre gettin confused on the chords you need to brush up on your music theory. chords can be confusing but useful if fully understood.

  • Tru watching WillTing's Pianolessons.

  • As soon as you understand minor/major key signatures you'll understand it all bud.

  • @MegMar01 well...

    C = C,E,G

    Am = A,C,E

after that i am right with you

  • *sigh* you know what.

I just may give up trying to learn piano it's just..too hard.

  • @arancienne Never Give up on your dreams.

  • Hmm...guess you're right

  • @arancienne keep tyrin' bud.

  • @arancienne If it's what you want to do, don't give up, it was hard for me but in a year I'm sight reading and playing everything I've wanted, learning is actually pretty fun :) you have to let yourself have fun with it. You can't just say "Oh this is to hard, screw it" and leave it behind..

  • erm...good finger movement...i'm still practising to be like you. Hmm but it takes time and patience.

  • that was beautiful but I didn't understand any of it, because I don't take lessons. lol

  • Thanks a lot Nate, this was a big help! 5/5

  • you are very gifted if you can come up with that right off the top of your head

  • Eb is such a pretty key... cheers man I wish I could play as good as u!

  • What technique is being used to create all the cascades of notes? I don't understand how pianists 'beautify' the chords.

  • @tropicallanterns usually arpeggios and seventh chords

  • its called arpeggiating(broken or playing the notes seperately in the chord, or rolling which is when they do it quickly but the concept is similar) they also put the notes in the bass

  • hi, thank you very much for your response. I understand what you're saying pretty much, but I get confused how the melody is infused into arpeggios. Is the arpeggiating mostly done with the left hand or is it mixed with the melody in the right? Obviously the bass is going to be with the left hand, but this concept confuses me lol. Thanks.

  • really, its what sounds good to u, in the beginning, the melody is usually right hand, and arpeggios and chords are left, but people switch and finetune and change that all the time. It's what sounds good ya know?

  • thanks very much. i tend to be to technical and need to break into the more artistic side of myself. thanks again

  • Kinda sounds like Rod Stewarts how much i love you

    5/5

  • Good deed...U teach people for free...i respect you...
