@david2407 This was at the Exploreum in Mobile, Al. and I didn't have any problem at all. There were no signs telling me I couldn't and no one stopped me. Weird that they won't let you take pics or video in NYC.
@MsMercury Yea,,in NYC they made an announcement before admiting you in that if they saw anyone taking pics or video, they would ask them to delete it on the spot.
Am I the only one who thinks it's highly disrespectful to take the bodies out of their final resting places to be displayed to a bunch of gawking people?
@chemicalr0mance They don't take the bodies, they make plaster castings of the empty space in the rock. The bodies would have perished over time. Look up how plaster casting is done.
I think its a good way to see the impact of what happed. Sad but true.
@chemicalr0mance How else are you going to be able to pay respects to them? They died unexpectedly and horribly. Most or all of the people who knew them also died. We are the ones to honor and mourn them. It is our responsibility to give them a respectable place in history.
@chemicalr0mance They did not move any bodies, cause there were no bodies left. What they did was fill the empty holes found in the volcanic deposits with plaster that produced produced remarkable casts of the victims of the eruption.
These are not their actual bodies, so no disrespect.
Yea poor dog. You can tell he was trying to get away. The man sitting is eerie. It looks like he saw it coming then just sat and waited for the inevitable.
Imagine: You're a mouse enjoying a nibble in ancient Pompeii when the walls explode around you and you are swamped in an instant by superheated gas and ash.
But ahh, now you have been found and can live for eternity as a plaster cast in a Pompeii museum...
ya know, Vesuvius is supposed to erupt again with equal or even deadlier force in the next century, maybe less. the tragedy will be even greater this time. back then, there was probably 3000 people on Pompeii and 3000 on Herculaneum. Now, there's over 3 million people in Pompeii, and God knows how many on Herculaneum.
Here's a scary thought: the next Mass Extinction could be from 2000 years, to 20 years.
How did you get to take video?? they are very strict in NYC about no pics or video!

If my body made the same end, I couldn't care less if in 1900 years time people would stare at it.

@Azishome They died unexpectedly but not horribly. The pyroplastic flow was faster than the speed of sound: they didn't have time to suffer.

This was an exhibit that came to Mobile, Al. at the Exploreum. A huge display of city artifacts and culture. It was chilling to see the body casts.

I saw it when it came to Minnesota. I felt sorry for that poor chained up dog. (Not to mention the poor chained up slaves...)
