Not that I would ever recommend doing this, but don't any of you ever consider the fact that this guy was just experimenting with a ball that he got for virtually nothing?
I admire your DIY spirit, especially the quarter scale built out of foam core, but at least buy a bevel knife! Files and rasps aren't even for wood any more! Must feel like gripping a cheese grater...
@urethaneguy He's not cheap he's a friend of my highschool coach and has given us all discounts. I bought my new ball through him and he's fixed any problem I've had for free!
Dude .. I'm pretty sure my Pro doesn't have to change his clothes 3 times while drilling a ball. Also, I'd like to see you get the same span and pitches on another ball now!
Yeah this would be maybe ok at best, until you are in league or tourny play and you get disqualified becuase your ball has too much top or side weight cause you did not know where to drill a balance hole because you were too cheap to have a trained professional drill it for you.
You should be ashamed of yourself. I mean really? You just made 31,987 people before me less intelligent about having a bowling ball drilled. I pray that not one person followed your bull**** frankensteined theory of how to save 40-60 bucks on having a ball drilled PROFESSIONALLY. 40-60 bucks... how cheap are you?
this is silly....let a trained pro who has the proper equipment do it. It's not THAT expensive. I sure wouldn't do this with a ball I just spent $200 on
What a waste of time. It took 3 hours to drill that and probably $50 or $60. A pro shop will do it right for $30 if you don't buy it from them. You sir, are an idiot.
this should have a do not try this at home warning...I have worked in a pro shop for 10 years now and I would not fix this for someone's attempt at saving money. The cost of drilling at your local house will save you from ruining your equipment.
what you dont realize is that that is a plastic ball...much harder coverstock...if you do that with a good ball you risk cracking it. and also you would have to smooth the edges of the holes, unless you want your fingers cut off =)
haha this has got to be the stupidiest thing i have ever seen lol.. Do not try this at home cause if dont drill it exactly right like if you put the wrong pitch in your thumb plus look how far apart the fingers are and you could really hurt yourself the first time you throw it just take it to someone that know's what there doing please lol
@probowler87 He knows pitches. Please shut up pussy. You look like all these other brain washed kids commenting on here. Cut the old man some slack. I have been doing this since I was a kid. I have 18 perfect games with an old gyro I plugged and drilled in my garage. It is fun, it is rewarding, and you can win lots of money at the "other end" of the bowling ally. :)
Would be fun to try with a scrap ball just to see the result, but if it was a ball I was planning to use I would gladely pay my pro shop, costs about ~70$ in sweden, plug, drilling & inserts even if was twice as expensive I would'nt drill my ball at home and I enven have a nice pillar-drill. Fun movie but for you people out there trying to save some money, my advice is to let the pro shop drill, way cheaper than buying a new ball after destroying your last one at home in your garage.
He insults real pro shop men saying its easy and you can do it yourself... Mabe with the right tool.. But this is just sad... What kind of layout is this anyway==!
this ball is illegal. there is only a certain amount of times the ball can be redrilled. no more then six holes can be in the ball at once. I know you can get it redrilled but thats rediculous in this. my pro shop can do better then this guy.
no stupid, there's no maximum number of times a ball can be plugged and redrilled as long as the ending gross weight is 16lbs 0oz or less. you're also wrong twice, because the maximum number of drilled holes in a bowling ball at one time is 12.
5 holes for gripping purposes, 1 vent hole for each drilled gripping hole. pay attention, that's 10. 1 axis hole for weight purposes, and 1 mill hole for inspection purposes. as per USBC rule, look it up.
further, this guy is in JAPAN. their equipment specification rules are different from ours. you might wanna do a little research before you look like a fucking idiot. i'll say it again, the only requirement for plugging and redrilling a bowling ball is that the gross weight remains at 16lbs 0oz or less, and that all ending static weights are kept legal. you can plug and redrill a ball as many times as you want.
of corse it is impossible to get pitches right without a jig but for those of you saying the edges are to sharp apperently you havent seen some of the pros and without a scale you cant tell if it is a illegal drill or not I have a ball drilled simalar to that with a small weight hole its probably leagle so unles you know what your talking about leave your retard coments to yourself
Obviously, you are too cheap to do the job and to do it right.
I made a pre-fabbed Rudell jig, bought a heavy-duty milling table, a Craftsman 15" table & standing press with a 1/2 HP motor, and some old drill bits that I got sharpened.
wow you're retarded. pin placement is relative to your axis point and has no bearing on whether a ball is statically legal. you can put the pin anywhere you want in relation to your positive axis point, the only requirement is that the ending finger, thumb and side weights remain legal and the ending gross weight of the ball is 16lbs 0oz or less. pin placement doesn't make a ball illegal. do some research dickface
I once knew a guy that would try something like this and be proud of it, to save a buck. This should be titled, "Pro shops in Ethiopia". Are you available to work on my Corvette anytime soon?
I've been drilling them in my garage with a regular drill press for 20 years. With wood spade bits and a beveled board to keep the ball from rolling around. Angles aren't that hard to measure.
Nice job....I wouldn't have thought it could be "free hand".
I must say, although I do agree with most of the comments and as a pro bowler, know that without a drill press, pitch gauge and some knowledge of layouts, there is NO WAY you can really drill a ball for use at home, the ball here DID look better than some balls I have seen drilled by an employee of K-MART or The Sports Authority.
that was bad really bad. im always a fan of diy stuff usually becasue your surprised of how well of a job you can do yourself but this is awful. not to mention the pitches of all the holes are all probably different and you had to drill out the same hole like 6 times each but it looks like they way you drilled it it was just a spareball or something so i guess it doesnt matter.
I'll just go to my proshop, thanks. After buying all that crap and drillbits, might as well have done it anyway instead of having all that crap lying around
I'll pay to get mine drilled instead but I really enjoy doing things on my own, so watching this video was pretty cool for me. I seen pro shops do some awful work, that I know I can do better, some people just are not skilled even with the best tools and 40 years on there belt. Thanks again for the video.
This was fun to watch but come on... That bridge (the space between the middle and ring finger), I can drive my car over that thing. I'd be having hand surgery if I threw a game with that ball. Fun to watch though...
This is highly not recommended!! If you want it done right, go to a pro shop! Get it done right the first time! A hand drill? Come on...You could be going in too straight and put too much pressure on the your thumb or fingers. It's too easy to get the angle wrong. Atleast use a small drill press!! I would rather pay the 50-60 bucks and have it done right than screw it up like this....
Oh, and I'm thinkin that any idoit dumb enough to drill his equipment at home with a hand drill wouldn't be going to USBC's, or anything where they check balls lol but you are right, a DQ is in his near future....he may even get nicknamed DQ.....like me......hmmmmmm :-)
I'm glad to see you have taken an intrest to the point that you are wanting to drill your own now. I also think it's clever that you made a quarter scale. I know how frustrating it can be to pay for a ball to be drilled. I got a blank pro-am ball a few years ago, with the drilling and grips alone it was $70. shortly after I bought a drill press and some bits and made a jig leared about pitches and drillings and went to town. I recently got a used proshop press and now it's a piece of cake.
when it comes right down to it, yes it may be a little more cost effective to drill your bowling ball yourself, maybe save you $30 but unless u are this guy and drill a shitty ball perfectly in one take, you are more than likely to ruin a new ball. and what about the weight? fuckin idiot
This person isn't lazy. You go to a proshop, and than you are lazy. What does either of the two have to do with being lazy anyhow?
This person just wants to save some money. It's $30 to drill a bowling ball at some places. At some other place, I seen $40. You already spend so much money for the bowling ball, and than the person has to drill it for even more money. Bowling in a league is expensive. At one league, it's $500.
small files....sandpaper...and a few hours later. monster bridge...no idea of pitches and a zero chance of reproducing that on the next ball. this has to be the dumbest thing i have seen to date
A little word comes to mind.... PITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lmao.... this is fine for the average open bowler. . . And what kind of layout is that? Pin dead center between the fingers and thumb? Never seen that one before
what kind of lazy redneck would sit in a shed and drill a motherfuckin bowling ball? i mean how lazy r u to go to a motherfuckin pro shop and have someone drill it for u?? plus at the end it looked like shit and u didn't even show us if it worked on the lane. bowlingzuki if that is u drilin the ball ur a dumbass
This old ball is still working well on THS. my video "Columbia 300 : Pulse bowling ball / rico drill". And I drilled 2 more balls. "Hammer : Vicious Particle Pearl bowling ball" , "Ebonite : Killer Instinct Pearl bowling ball"
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I needed a good laugh today

Could you get the finger holes farther apart? bowlingzuki, you owe me 8:21. No video showing that it comes off your hand. FAIL!!!

I think it's too wide. It was 2nd attempt of drilling and there are many things I have to learn. but this ball drilling is not so bad.
See my response.

watch?v=NtZ3jdyVXCc this is the exact same ball... not bad if you ask me

when it comes right down to it, yes it may be a little more cost effective to drill your bowling ball yourself, maybe save you $30 but unless u are this guy and drill a shitty ball perfectly in one take, you are more than likely to ruin a new ball. and what about the weight? fuckin idiot

At one league, it's $500.

i payed $60 at a place that was supposed to be amazing. it sucked and then had to get it redrilled at my normal place for $50 and got yelled at.

gay layout on a P.O.S. ball...and how stupid when it takes 15 minutes to get it professionally done?
Ever think to have it checked for legal weight? Try throwing it in a tournament where they check your ball...dumbass
chancecline 3 years ago
small files....sandpaper...and a few hours later. monster bridge...no idea of pitches and a zero chance of reproducing that on the next ball. this has to be the dumbest thing i have seen to date

This old ball is still working well on THS. my video "Columbia 300 : Pulse bowling ball / rico drill". And I drilled 2 more balls. "Hammer : Vicious Particle Pearl bowling ball" , "Ebonite : Killer Instinct Pearl bowling ball"

He's not very lazy if he's going through all this trouble of putting holes on his ball. Lazy is going to a proshop to have it done.
As for me... I"m Lazy and I let people know it.
