THIS SHOW WAS MY MAIN REASON FOR GETTING UP EARLY ON SATURDAY MORNINGS IN THE SEVENTIES AS A KID. EVERY TIME I HERE THE THEME SONG IT BRINGS BACK GREAT MEMORIES.
This is 1st season of Superfriends and did it ever SUCK! No supervilliansd but rather politically correct misfits. Yes they had the top 5 members of the JLA but who was this about? Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog: Scooby Doo wannabees.
Let me tell ya something serious about these old cartoons..No inappropiate content. Most were good clean fun for kids. This one is a great example for the formation of good values in children. Kids absolutely need good role models, and nowadays, a lot of these come from television. Who would you rather have your children emulate? Superman? or Homer Simpson?
@jgraz42 His name was Ted Knight, he also played Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore show. He passed away some time ago. He was a big favorite in my parents house. lol
@jgraz42 Yes, that one was called Two Close for Comfort. I don't remember the blonde daughters name. But I had her poster, in a bikini, in my room for the longest time. When I moved out, my mom went on a cleaning spree. Being a strict German, she didn't like women parading around in bikinis. And she refused too go in my room, lol. But with what the blonde was wearing then, they wear even less nowadays. TG!!! Lol. take care.
@joejoewest Thanks, I had completely forgot her name. I always thought the character would hook up with Monroe. It turns out the actor playing Monroe was gay in real life. So they didn't really interact has far has kissing on screen, ect.
I wonder if that was the voice of Ted Knight as the narrator? He voiced a lot of that sort of thing. He was better known as Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore show.
@bukster1 - Yes, indeed the narrator was Ted Knight -- prior to this (and the Mary Tyler Moore show), he did voice-over narration for cartoons produced by Filmation based on several DC Comics superheroes...
@Sirromdzen me too! from 7am to to about 1pm was cartoon heaven. My last shows to watch before playing outside were shazaam and Isis show. I miss the 70's
"4 greatest heroes created from the cosmic legends of the universe" - please superman and maybe wonder woman would qualify but aquaman and batman, come one .
@robkixx Marvin White LIVES...well, at least when I created him for City of Heros. His backstory was that the Superfriends saw that he had what it took to be a hero and helped him get a variety of powers.
This world never ceases to amaze me. Next week, the 90's version of X-Men cartoon is coing out, and they still haven't bothered to put this out on dvd. WHAT 'S THE FRICKING HOLD-UP?!
Remember the one with the trees stealing the air conditioning units off the buildings? Something about cooling off the inside of the Earth for the creatures living there...That was a weird one!
could someone tell me why this, the first year of the series, cannot be seen on youtube? Only the opening is seen. The 73 season is also not available on dvd. Could someone post some complete episodes? I loved this when I was a kid.
yep robin needed more respect than they gave him he wasnt a brainless character its messed up that they made him that way for that series. although with the teen titans show he really holds his own as a stronger character
The Green Arrow appearance showed how cool he would've been in Challenge Of The Superfriends. 2 Rich Guys (Bruce Wayne/Oliver Queen). Green Arrow could buddy up with Hal Jordan Green Lantern!
A DOG?! With a CAPE?! What's he supposed to, save the world from a moggy invasion?! Or fetch The Stick Of Destiny if it ever goes missing?! Also, I highly doubt the Batman and Robin I know would pick up some scummy teens in their Batmobile to give them a ride to the rollerdisco. They don't make 'em like they used to? WELL THANK F*** FOR THAT!!
@CJAFTER5 Rather be a nerd than a kid gowing up in the 70's forced to watch this sanitised nonsense. Give me the vicious, cruel, dark Gotham city anyday above the lollipops and sunshine world populated by these jokers..
@anxresi That was Wonderdog. He, Wendy and Marvin were basically Superfriends-in-training. They were mostly there for comic relief, and for the Superfriends to save when needed.
@glennorange But, in the storyline, they ARE Superfriends-in-training. They would get themself in trouble, similar to Scooby-Doo and Shaggy, and the Superfriends had to save them.
Even as a kid, it always ticked me off that when they're naming off all the "Super Friends," Robin's name is never mentioned. For crying out loud, Wendy, Marvin and even that stupid Scooby-Doo wannabe rated a mention....but Robin didn't?
do you rember the one where wonderwoman was cought by the anti matter monster icant find it plese write back when you get this ilove wonder woman somuch thank youihave season one and two wonderwoman on dvd superman 24a

Marvin and Wendy died of an obscure STD, it was tragic, no one came to the funeral. They were promptly forgotten about.

I think this series is a perfect way to introduce kids to comics, To serve as a stepping stone to say
Bruce Timm and Paul Dini's work and other things.
