General Cordswainer just put out a cover of this song. It's like a mix between Cat Power and Mazzy Star. Very sexy & a bit smoother than the Cat Stevens version. Totally recommended for your first dance at your wedding if you're a fan of Indie/Folk/Acoustic Rock.
Wow. Thank you for being so kind. I`m thinking of doing `If I Laugh` next as it took me about 30 years to finally work that one out. Thanks so much for the very kind feedback.
Yeah, it`s Suzanne Perry the motoGP commentator. Met her once and she signed that photo for me. She is an absolutely lovely person and a fabulous commentator. She also has the `common touch` and really listens to you and makes you feel important. I just love the bones of her.
Cat did the music, the lyrics and the basic tune. But Alun Davies was the man who made the song what it is. Just as Ditko realised the image of spiderman from Lees idea Alun Davies is the one who realised the song and played the guitar session recordings. To my mind he is the best session musician of the time. I am 50 years of age and even now I am only just able to copy his playing. If Alun ever sees this I would love to meet you or even an autograph would make my year.
Bloody hell! What a compliment. Thank you *so* much. I only wish it were so. Cat Steven`s session guitarist was a guy called Alun Davies. He is my hero. He is the one who played the major part of this song. To even be compared to him is such an honour. I am speechless. Thank you.
Many thanks! I wonder if people are seeing and hearing what I do - I honestly cringe everytime I see and hear me play! As for father and son I have no idea how I could do the lead break in the middle without overdubbing, but I`ll think on and have a go at something new when I get a free hour or two.
your cover is the best ive seen on youtube cat powers is great too!! i love this song ill fo my best to learn how to play it well, the bad point is that a i have no a good voice to sing :) good luck!!!
Thanks very much for your very kind comments. Personally I cringe every time I watch it! Took me ages to finally figure out the song but it was worth it, I just love the song to bits! You should be able to work out the song by watching me play it and I hope you get the same enjoyment from learning it as I did playing it. I have been so encouraged by the kind comments I have received that I hope to post Jenny Wren by Mc Cartney in the next few days.
I have three. An Ovation Tangent that I bought a year and ahalf ago. Great guitar and very pretty (used in the Cat Stevens song). I also own a Miranda S-250 Travel guitar that cost far too much with import tax from America (£1,000) but is very handy for traveling on planes as it packs up the size of a large snooker cue. My third is my favourite an Ovation Adamas that I have owned for ten years. If you get the chance buy one of these beauties, fabulous to play. I used it for Jenny Wren.
Well thanks! Persoanlly watching it makes me cringe a little. No reverb and recoded on a bog standard video. Its one of my favourite songs so I was curious to see how it would look... With all these kind comments I may well record another. Thanks again.
Thanks very much for your kind comments. I hadn`t thought of doing anything else but with such encouragement I think I might well reconsider. Thanks again.
Agreed, always puts me under pressure to play without effects to a cold video camera, so that`s why I`ve played it a bit quick I reckon... Thanks for the comment.
I just played my guitar along with your video. You use the Alun chords, and I use the Cat chords, so it makes a nice duet. You can try it with my video if you like to see how it sounds.
Did you record the tutorial?
