lol when i see these im trying to learn REAL heavy metal... something alnog the lines of suicide silence... for example, i can play thyis standard stuff... but im tryin to learn some things using a dropped tunings... im in drop A (from thickest to thinnest.... A,E,A,D,F#,B) you should give a lesson on that, and by the way, i got higher guage strings so i cant really tune to standard anymore... i pop a string on pinch harmonics, use guage 9-36 im pretty sure (a 7 string set w/o the thinnest)
cool lesson but if they are heavy metal chords arent you suppose to have super distortion, maybe your trying to show the tonal qualities of the chords but you could have shown the audience what that sounds like with super mesa boogie triple rectifier like sound behind the signal, apart from that minute groan that was an awesome lesson
yeh most punk bands music is dominated by power chords, some heavy metal bands use the power chords, sept i think tht most modern heavy medal bands drop the E string.
I have a problem... my guitar is too heavy (Epiphone Les Paul Ebony) and every time I hold it my legs start getting numb... that's why I haven't played electric for a while now :((( any advice?
this lesson brings back lots of memories of learning guitar using your website. this website really does work i learned solely from this website and now im lead guitar in a band

The most effective way of practicing power chords are AC/DC's songs. All of them ar power chords so you can practice it there.

mrhanky89 3 years ago
Just keep playing, you'll get used to it.
Maybe play for shorter periods of time until its easier.
Ibbod0 3 years ago
Oh, are you playing sitting?
Try standing and playing if so.

the bassnote, dominant and subdominant. 1 4 and 5

Nope.
mostly with the root on the E string (E, A, and D strings)
they're also played with the root on the A string, (A, D, and G strings)

his guitar sounds very twangy
bbbobbbieo 3 years ago
It's because his Strat has a maple fingerboard. That plus the single coils creates a rather twangy tone. A guitar like that is perfect for blues.
