When the bulb is new, you can watch certain things during daylight -- not movies, they tend to be too dark, but as you can see in the video, Forza shows up well in the late afternoon. As the bulb ages it becomes dimmer and after about six months of regular use it's mostly only useful after dark.
The lamp had about 60 hrs in the video. On a bright channel like CNBC, you can even see it in daylight (but not direct sunlight). But that level of extreme brightness doesn't last long.
The lamp is usable for significantly longer than the rating, and FAR longer than the picky folks at "expert" forums will tell you.
We ran our last one to ~2000 hrs, about 2 yrs of daily use. The improvement with a new lamp is noticeable and impressive, but it degrades so slowly you don't really notice it.
@ilhadosmacacos before i got one i was worried about the life of the lamp aswell, but you get about 3000 hours of time, which doesnt sound alot, i have had mine for over a year and half now maybe longer and i think ive only used around 1000-1500.
because I have a TV too and i spend alot of time at home using the dam thing aswell... what i mean is it kinda lasts alot longer than it sounds anyway.....
i agree, but i was also worried about lamp life before i got one, i have had mine for 1 and half to two years now, and my bulb is still fine i spend alot of time watching TV , gaming and movies and ive only managed to use about 1500..
I payed £1000 for a sony 1080p 40 inch LCD. then later i went out and got the projector for £600, and i can honestly say the projector is waaay more worth it.. the extra £400 can go towards bulbs for the next 4-5 years. by then TV will be old.
I've actually done that in school. We were supposed to research some shit on the computers. So everyone else went down to the computer room. Me and my buddies asked if we could stay on the teacher's computer in the class. So we did, and the teacher followed the others to the computer room. Then we turned on the projector and watched porn for 45 minutes. :D
Lens to wall distance is 17 feet 6 inches with zoom at nearly maximum setting. If you zoom to the absolute maximum, it overlaps the edge of my 150" screen by about a half-inch all the way around so it's dialed back by just a tiny bit. (Zoom control is just a dial on the lens.)
Must be nice being rich. Just kidding, I'm 17 but it looks like you have a 2-3 story living room or something, nice. 150" HD projector. Damn. How much did that setup run you?
I suppose you could say it's a 2-story room. The ceiling height is 22 feet. The projector was about $1200 and the screen (which isn't in this video) was about $750. It's not really that expensive, considering the 48" DLP RPTV on the floor was also about $1200.
Although the video was taken during the day, usually you can't see if very well in daylight. The DLP RPTV is for daytime viewing. I did just install a 150" Elite high-contrast gray screen and it significantly improves viewing in high-ambient light, but it still can't be watched in broad daylight. Just too many windows in this area of the house.
Heh... the bottom of the second set of windows are 12 feet off the floor. I'm not quite tall enough to operate drapes that high. (And the 22' wall has steel i-beams... so remote powered drapes aren't an option, unfortunately.) Also this area has several full-glass French doors...
Projectors (and rear-projection TVs like DLPs) use a bulb that is rather expensive and has a limited lifespan. However the bulbs usually last two or three times as long as the official rating. Research it on AVS Forum and Projector Central...
then again these projectors cost about $5000 if ya need the really expensive 1 and changin a light bulb sounds easier than hooking up a plasma to the wall plus this plasma thing could break or fall of like nobodies buisness so thats a betta deal
My projector was about $1200. The one in our bedroom that throws an 80" picture was about $650. Given the picture size, there isn't another display technology that even comes close. Even if you buy a screen, it's still comparable (an 84" Da-Lite fixed-mount screen runs about $500). Mounting the projector and running all the cables takes a good bit of effort, though (since it was a new house, I had it pre-wired, but you still need to keep that in mind).
but i ask u this was it worth it i mean u have this pretty big display thats like a home theater then again i have a surround sound system and i hide all da wires be hind da tv and i have no where to put these things
Definitely worth it. All the windows you see in the video mean I can't use the projector during the day (I took the video during a storm with heavy clouds, originally I just wanted to see how the camera performed in low light), so we have a 48" DLP HDTV on the floor under the projection area for daytime use. But the projector is so good we rarely go to theaters any more. It's just more comfortable and convenient to wait for the DVD and watch it at home. I'll never be without a projector again.
ooohhh i see the tv now that u mention it so yea it is a little more convienent so wat kinda input does that have cuz i wanna hook up a computer a wii a dvd and dvd player
i figured out which 1 i wanted but then again i need to buy a diffrent home theatre system and have a professional install it because m let me tell you sumtin the back of my tv looks like a bucket full of chrome bait
Infernal Engines is right....although it is said that the center would sound better if it was put right in front of you...it would work just as well pointed directly at you. The only way you could tell that there was a difference is if you had the calibration equipment to prove it. Besides, with how big his setup is (just imagine the experience if it was dark) ;) who gives a rip where the center is!? haha
I take my hat off to you sir. This setup is amazing. Unlike some people's setup, yours is crisp and clean. Very cozy atmosphere. That would be awesome to game there.
Damn, just a little bigger than mine... Mine is 10' by 6' 1080p. Would be bigger, but I can't move my projector back any further. But, is that your center channel right above the screen? I sure hope not... HORRIBLE place to put it. Looks nice though.
Yeah, that's my center above the screen. Aimed at the seating position, it works well, actually. Axiom centers & surrounds, Platinum Audio fronts, Klipsch subs...
You really need to voice match your speakers. You have a nice setup... But, your center channel shouldn't be that high for sure. Even if it's aimed down directly at you, it still isn't ideal, or recommended. You have nice speakers (most of them), but voice matching is VERY important. But, the center placement is the most important thing, since it IS the most important speaker in a theater.
I'm guessing your "most of them" comment is directed at my Klipsches. A couple of 12's driven at relatively lower power work just fine (there is no voice matching of subs). As for whether the PT-808s and the Axioms are adequately matched, I bought the Axioms on a direct recommendation from Phil Jones. That's good enough for me.
try ebay the epson emp-tw10 is quite good u can c it on here type in projector in basement its the 1 were the guy puts on farcry its a fairly good a cheap enough 1
Use the calculator on projectorcentral dot com to determine optimal seating distance for a given screen size. (There is a better calculation but I don't remember it off-hand.) It makes a huge difference. As my friend put it just the other day, "Yes, you CAN have a TV that is too big..."
i got a powerlite s1 i like it and the biggest i have played is like 100 inchs and a my eyes have anofe time keeping up with then agian i set 6 or 7 ft from the screen
We were originally projecting at over 200" but our seating position is about 17.5' from the wall, and anything over about 150" is uncomfortable to watch. At 150" I'd say Forza is slightly larger than life-size... probably about 120" would be life-size, but since Forza's view in the horizontal plane is quite a bit more narrow than what your eyes really see, oversize is more natural feeling.
You know you can actually connect 3 screens to have a front view, right and left view. You also have to have 3 xbox360s and 3 copies of the game. But if your rich i say get it. Just imagine 3 big screens. One in front and two to the side!!!
You can always go to the cinema and play there
