Sorry to you guys who liked this cover vesion its pretty bad compared to the origional by Steve Harley and cockney rebel, but I do like Duran Duran for their own music.
Sorry to you guys who liked this cover vesion its pretty bad compared to the origional by Steve Harley and cockney rebel, but I do like Duran Duran for their own music.
I remember queing up for about 7 hours outside the Apollo in Manchester to get tickets.... was it worth it? Damn right. The next time I saw them; a few clicks on the comp and off to the MEN. They never played this on any of the times I went to see them. Shame. What a group!!!!!
I always thought Duran Duran was a wimpy pop band. And then, I saw them live. I have loved that memory. For some reason no recording ever captures it. AWESOME band.
wasnt this from a hammersmith concert in london that was shown on channel 4 something about the baddie from barbarella (duran duran) being after the fans of the group
i remember getting a 1hour video tape and recording it from channel 4 and this was one of my fav song from this
also it was the first time id heard the chauffeur as well and loved that
I was 8 when they did this...I was so curious to see how they performed then..I wish it was better quality...I am looking forward to the live at hammersmith dvd release coming out this month..September.
15msd i hear you. what the F is this band doing taking direction from those people who don't know shit about good music!!! Duran Duran were some of the greatest forefathers of skilled craftmanship and true creativity!
OMG I heard this cover bad, I just wasn't expecting it to be this bad. I hope Steve Harley got plenty of royalty cheques, he deserves some consolation for having his song murdered.
Fair play to the guys, they've made the song their own unlike most bands who do covers, and I know Im gonna get bad ratings for this, but Steve Harley makes this song. You can never ever ever better the originals.
This is the original version off the reflex single-the audio is not live-this is the number one band out there-this song and all thier other early ones, show that they do not need Justin timberlake(yuck) or that fatass timbaland helping them!!! dont know why duran duran got involved with them :(
VARIETY is the key :) ....as long as a person can sing well and hold the key I don't think there could ever be a bad version of this song.....a timeless classic. I personally belive Duran Duran did an exemplary job of pulling it off. BRAVO! and thank you. I enjoyed it immensley and have saved it in my playlist. Love, Stefanie xOxOxOx
I remember watching this full concert on MTV..way back in like 1982. I had a copy on a Beta tape. Being this was taped in the early 80's and before digital was available. on a video tape like VHS/Beta there are 2 layers audio and video and over time and stretch out, causing the delay in either one or both. I don't know if that helps.
Then you DONT have all of them.:) Easy to miss tho. This exact version is on the flip side of "The Reflex" 12" single. So its on the singles box set, and on any bootleg singles collections.
I saw this performed by DD, when I was 12 years old, on November 20th 1982. I most upset that I was the only person in the audience in Southampton who didn't know WTF they were singing! The crowd were going mad for it!
Great song and video. Wished the audio matched the video, but that's OK. I've had this song since I first bought the Reflex single back in '83 (it was a b side), and have loved it since. To this day, 24 years later, Duran still is one of the most innovative and underrated bands out there.

This cover is as much an improvement on the original as the Sisters Of Mercy's cover of Hot Chocolate's "Emma". Absolutely brilliant.
