during my 3 1/2 yrs. in y.t.s i became a member of the red tail lodge! learned a lot from tio jimi & all the brothers... looked foward to the services every week, made my time fly! good times! thanks tio jimi for everything!
These men and what they are doing is so right. Our young warriors need this. I know of that struggle. But- This is a sacred ceremony. The grandmothers and grandfathers poked at in that fire do not wish to be videotaped. Please, remove/edit this post. With actual scenes from a ceremony it is offensive and should not be posted. I dont mean disrespect but posting video with lodge parts can never convey or carry its spirit meaning to others. So please, remove or edit this now. Mitakuye Oyasin
@Eagle Dancer; The whole ceremony is not shown just enough to help expain the help being provded to the youth who are incarcerated. Out of all the brothers in the video you seem to only direct your attention at one person. The fact that part of the ceremony was documented does not make the Sweat any more real or fake. Many if not all ceremonies had been recreated or recorded for various reason. some positive and with permision of elders and leaders. Gabrieliño is derived from Latin, Tongva is not
thoostorm7..you are a liar I have no "site" ....all I will say here is that the Gabrielino family whose legacy was stepped on by players isnt around anymore to but if you want to believe in something without looking deep under the surface go right ahead.
Jimi Castillo is running for Lt. Governor of California as a Green Party candidate. Uncle Jimi has dedicated his life to community service. Please support this indigenous candidacy representing the first people of the Los Angeles basin.
Who cares where were you born, who cares what color is your skin, and wether your name is indian, latino or whatever, the heart of the tradition speaks to them who listen, understand and act, for their good and for the good of their relations. A new time is coming, one of brotherhood and love, and our elders are looking for the ones who want to learn and share, and they are looking even beyond their own people. 'Cause we all are one family, and all my relations is everyone over this sacred world

The Red Tail Lodge graciously allowed us to film because we approached them with respect for a public television project about urban Native Americans. They believe that returning to indigenous traditions can help heal centuries of colonization and trauma, and help these young men become production members of their communities.
Indian people don't recognize a border drawn when the USA stole "Mexican" land that Mexico had stolen from the indigenous people. North or South, red blood and red skin are all relatives.
The sweat lodge is such a powerful and sacred place. It is where we connect to ourselves and our ancestors. More is needed to explain the procedures for those who do not understand the power of connection that the sweat lodge with its heat and darkness has to offer. Blessings Birdy
Sweat lodge is a sacred and very powerful ceremony but difficult to portray the shere power of it in such a short film. The darkness the heat and connection to our ancestors and ouselves so important. I attended an all woman sweat lodge and my god goddess what power. We need to connect!
