Somewhere I have an LP of Istomin and Ormandy with the Philadelphia Orchestra playing Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto. That was how I cut my teeth on classical music. It was an inspiring preformance.
Istomin's recording with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Ormandy, of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 is without compare. I have been looking to replace this recording for many years.
dear DottyParker, I feel the same way about his Rachmaninoff #2 w Ormandy.
I'd love to get that again on CD. His tasteful rubatto was just right. Heart-breaking.

Does anybody out there have a video recording of their magnificent Mendelssohn Piano Trios 1 and 2?

Eugene Istomin was quite an underrated pianist. His tone was very elegant. He was a Leventritt Gold Medal winner I understand.
