I put my small business website and info in all the popular web directories. I didn't pay anything, though. It was the free option. Was that a mistake? I did it after Website Magazine recommended to do this because it increases your "citations" in Google Places. The more citations you have the better ranking. What say you?
@ShelterDogs That is fine and you did it for the right reason, Google Places citations. However, never pay for a listing in those directories and don't expect clients / customers from them. You want to have your site at alone at the top of the Google organic listings. You want to be the top and only choice ;)
