Being apart of the Morehouse College Glee Club, its weird seeing someone perform it so differently than us, but it's an awfully pretty rendition. Really smooth. Why in a different key, though?
Chills. Phenomenal. I can't speak to the proper pronunciation-annunciation of the language since I only speak English, but this piece makes me feel like I'm in the Motherland. :-) Sloppy isn't what comes to mind, IMHO.
This rendition of the piece did not do it justice. The movement is very sloppy, the articulation of the Yoruba language is very poor. Overall, this is NOT the piece that Dr. Whalum wrote. I implore future performers of this piece to review actual nigerians in performance. The only way to capture the essence of this culture is to see it for yourself. It's disheartening to see several esteemed choirs such as UGA passing off "Americanized" versions of this piece.
This is one of the best versions I've heard other than the Morehouse College Glee Club of course. The only critique would be that the "n" on adupe funo is actually sung in the nasal cavity and not with the tongue. It should sound closer to fu-o other than fuNo. This is really great though. Soloist and percussion did a great job.
Maravilloso!!!
