@Saiyuki2o4 The "densetsu" part means legend, not Dracula. The first game, Akumajou Dracula, means Demon Castle Dracula. This one is Demon Castle Legend. BRAH.
This song and all of it's wonderful soundtrack sounds amazing on the NotSo Fatso Winamp plug-in from zophar(dot)net. YouTube doesn't really do it justice.
"so we meat again , my mortal enemy..." "yes it is i Trevor Belmont, Dracula!" "no not you you twilight obsessed idiot move over! so its just between you and me , my all time mortal enemy and pain to my existence, STAIRS!!!!!!!!!"
@y2k4ever1 HAHAHAHA!!! I just played through Dracula X on SNES for the first time, and was delighted that you can actually jump on stairs and otherwise move like a normal person. How many times have we cursed and threw controllers because of those confounded stairs on 8-bit Castlevania games?
so the famicom is more much compact, smaller carts, looks better, has better audio and came out 3 years before the nes. Can someones explain why this is?
@SOUTHWESTENZ It was the general localization of demand of more gaming from Konami, the action grandaddy of games. I believe it was rushed for American cartridges and took no time to actually figure out the music. Not only that, by the time Number 3 was announced, in the background where we don't see plot or development of games. Konami was planning their best fucking castlevania ever "SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV" It took on the "Super" gimmick from SNES. But it certainly was the best fucking CV EVER.
It wouldn't have been possible to use the VRC6 expansion in the US version. If anything, they had to spend MORE time figuring out how to rearrange the music back to 5 sound channels and still make it sound kickass. I think they did a great job with porting the music. :)
I should add - The Famicom itself doesn't have better audio per say, it just allowed for sound expansion. The audio of the extra channels is produced inside the game cart, like the Super Game Boy for the SNES.
@spike007980 Have to disagree there. SCV4 was a step back for me. None of the branching paths or alternate characters of this game or Rondo of Blood (the best CV if you ask me). The multi-directional whip took away the threat level of enemies, on top of that, making the game too easy.
The first, and the VERY best rendition of this track ever. Every iteration of this song after this one has been a dumbed-down version that while good, will never live up. If you split up the individual tracks of this JP version in an NSF player, the complexity and ridiculously smart composition becomes apparent. Not to mention it's a fucking catchy track.
One of my all-time favourites. This will definitely be in my upcoming giant Castlevania 3 Orchestra medley with all JP parts intact.
It's because the Famicom allows external soundchips to be used in cartridges, while the NES locks them out. Akumajou Densetsu uses Konami's VRC6 chip to add extra channels to the music, which is why it sounds so more layered than Castlevania III.
If the difficulty of the unmerciful bastard...this game woulda been epic! I enjoy it though I mean I have done my epic 3 hour swear fest and massive jager drinking of how hard it is, but the major character swappage and story line and how Trevor had a major boner for Sypha just made the game great and I wish this allstar cast comes back sometime in a full story driven game not a cameo appearance.
@explod2A03 Correct. That being 300+ years ago in their timeline, Alucard was more of a dead ringer for his father in physical appearance. But what I don't understand, is why do so many people disown the original art concept for the characters? they could of been boring, plain, and everything else, but they still occured. (That's probably why I love Portrait of Ruin so much... it felt like a real tribute to the TRUE original fans of Castlevania).
@Vagrant026 I just got one wish..just one...Update Castlevania 3 to 32-Bit Side-scroller or even higher to have a supreme HD enjoyment of the classic.
A plausible theory. However, may I turn your attention to the American boxart, which despite having 3 out of the 4 heroes displayed, still fails to show Alucard. A conclusion can be drawn then, that Alucard wasn't meant to be shown on either boxes!
The American boxart clearly demonstrates Grant clinging to the walls, and Sypha casting her Flame spell. Look at the top left corner of the same boxart - you see a bat, right? Just like the other two characters are using *their* special abilities, so is Alucard. ;) He's a bat on the cover! Brilliant, no?
Not only does the American boxart depict everyone except that bat attacking an enemy, but it also depicts two more bats coming from the same direction! How could you be so sure that particular bat is Alucard?
@Notyu1459 Hahahaha! I can't say for sure, I just like to think it's him. Grant's dagger and Sypha's magic are way cooler to design on boxart than Alucard's... orb... things. Alucard can't attack in bat form, though. I see another bat flying in the distance, but it's so far away that Idunno if you can say for sure that it's coming in the same direction as this bat. But the up-close bat is more prevalent along with Grant and Sypha, so I figured Trevor wouldn't leave one ally behind...
@Notyu1459 Also thumbs up for you... I imagine it's a rare breed to find people who've played games like Castlevania AND games like Phoenix Wright. So I couldn't help but laugh and jump into the discussion. :)
@Notyu1459 OBJECTION *throws desk out the window* this is before Alucard got his white long hair in SOTN Alucard in this game looks pretty much like his father like how both Alucard and Dracula look the same in the newer ones.
I like them equally. Overture, Riddle, and some of the more ambient ones sound nicer to me with the VRC6. But at times the expansion can be a bit muddy and overbearing (the saw wave is too loud for my liking a lot of the time).
With some of the more straightforward and driving tunes, like Aquarius and Mad Forest, I like the clarity, tightness, and particular sounds that come with the US NES versions.
And a handful just sound 50/50 to me. Both versions are great. :)
Actually, it's split between the system *and* the cart. The NES is handling the two normal pulse channels, noise, and 1-bit samples (triangle is unused in most or all tracks here). The VRC6 inside the cart is supplying two extra pulse channels and a sawtooth wave.
