Is there only so many bodies you put on a guitar?? I mean I love the quality looks incredible dont get me wrong but why does everyone have to copy the strat sn gibson body is there only so many ways to shape an electric guitar?
@RebeccaLeveaux they're 6115 stainless steel frets and yes, if you plan on getting the compound radius be prepared to do a little fret leveling. I have two of em now and they both needed some work before the buzzing went away. The neck I ordered with a standard 12 inch radius was fine though and needed only a very light levelling.
I will also vouch to the quality of Warmoth products. I was simply blown away at my guitar - both the alder/maple strat body and the maple neck - unbelievable quality - the neck pocket was so tight and perfect - I didn't think it was going to fit in it was that tight. I also got the Wilkinson trem and I can say that this guitar stays in tune better than any non-locking trem guitar I have played. The guitar is perfectly intonated and I did the setup myself upon receiving the parts from UPS.
I recently bought a solid swamp ash strat body (same as yours but rear rout wiring) with the countoured heel. I got a canary wood neck with pau ferro fret board. I dyed a burst on it myself. Putting in a recessed Schaller/Floyd with Dimarzio Evo2 bridge and Dimarzio Invader Neck. I got it put together by a luthier here and the total cost was $940.00.
All that to say, I will only build my own guitars with Warmoth pieces. The guitar is incredible and fit together perfectly.
This is almost 100% all the color of wood, stain, and black hardware I'd like. I bought the black Paul Gilbert Injectors will will make it all black with that dark wood grain and dark brown stain. Very nice Guitar! Congrats!
Did you stain the neck aswell? or is that the colour of wenge? also when you stained it how did you go about it? did you hang it up when applying the stain or did you do one side and then flip it over?
@Cadillacsex The neck is unfinished. As for the body finish, I grabbed the body by the pickup routs and wiped on the stain and then hung it up with a wire hanger to let dry. I think if you do one side at a time you're gonna get lines on the body where the stain overlaps. Remember to first put on a coat of prestain wood treater or else you're going to get a real blotchy looking stain job with lots of uneven patches.
Hey, firstly can i just say it looks awesome, such a good job on the staining, but did you have to put any finish on it after the stain? i am buying a warmouth body and neck, so for the body i really wanted a natrual wood finish but warmouth charge so much for a clear nitro finish :/
@Cadillacsex Thanks for the compliment. I finished it after staining with three coats of rub on tung oil finish which was the least amount of coats needed to get a little shine on an ash body.
Very nice guitar! Warmoth's quality is unbelievable. I took a very nice Squire Strat and had a Warmoth custom neck made for it. Gonzalo Alves with an ebony fingerboard. No finish. It's now one of the best guitars I've ever played. Highly recommended to take the plunge....
That strat is fucking sublime m8, what are the pickups??, i have one too chambered mahoghany/koa body with my own custom set of Lindy fralin's and KTS & KGC hardware, it sounds like an angel having an orgasm, fucking awesome m8, rock on!
@WaltonWembleyMusic the headstock comes bare. You get like 3 stickers when you order...2 that you can put on your guitar and one bumper sticker for whatever.
very nice vid...i like your guitar. not only sounds good but it looks great....you mentioned two numbers in reference to the total cost...in the beginning of the vid you said something like $200 for the kit and at the end it was like $900 would you put a little more light onto the matter? thank you....
I am building a Warmoth guitar right now. If anyone has any worries about quality, let me put you to ease. Everything is top shelf. I bought the Soloist style already finished, a deep, rich honeyburst with a carved top and binding all the way around. The neck is maple with eboney fretboard. SS frets. I installed a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge, 59 Jazz neck. I used the new Babicz Full Contact bridge. The best invention for guitar EVER. The sustain and tone are phenom. Schaller lock tuners.
@ak47s762 I switched out the red velvet in the neck for a Rumpletiltskin handwound. The red velvet is kinda muddy in the neck when played with distortion. It does however sound awesome in the bridge position where it is currently sitting, and staying, in another strat.
@ak47s762 I think this pickup would be very useful for any type of music. It's warm but has a lot of bite and pick attack for blues and rock while still sounding very good played clean. The tone when running with distortion is very smooth without all that harsh treble you get from a regular strat pickup.
With the scalloped neck do you know if playing chords, especially barre chords. If it's easier or harder? Cause I just got my warmoth body and am holding off on the neck trying to decide what to do.
@Fldzpln11 As with anything there's an adjustment period but it's not like what most people think. You don't have to have a feather soft touch to keep the strings in tune, but below the 6th fret when chrding or playing single notes, you do have to be more aware of how hard you press due to the wider spacing of the frets. Takes like an hour to get used to. The only drawback to a scalloped neck is that you won't wanna play a regular neck again.
I have a couple of questions, since I want a wenge neck now. Is it a heavy wood? I am concerned about neck dive. Also, does it require any sort of finish? I heard some people suggesting lemon oil on Unofficial Warmoth, but it doesn't seem necessary. Lastly, I have a recent Charvel San Dimas (the guitar I want to mount the neck onto). Would a Warmoth neck fit?
@WoWintosh Wenge is heavy as hell and is fine without a finish. I use a little orange oil every now and then just to clean it and keep it from getting too dry but the oil from your hand naturally does a pretty good job of keeping it all lubed up. I have the fatback contour on mine so it's about the heaviest neck you can get and it balances fine. As for fit, since you're not finishing the neck, the pocket should be more than big enough to fit. Any more questions feel free to ask. Good luck.
Very cool, I went to luthier school so I have an obsession with raw and extreme figured woods, really nice looking guitar and great sound. I'm more of a Seymour Duncan fan myself, they sound more tubular to me.
How does the scalloped neck affect sliding? Harder or easier? I would think you feel the fret wire more?
@CraigEnser It's a little harder because you feel the frets like speed bumps when you slide quickly but after you get used to using a lighter touch and different positioning of your fingers it's the same as any other guitar. Thanks for the compliments.
Gorgeous guitar. Love the reverse headstock and reverse bridge pickup. Question - what fretboard radius and fret size are you rocking with the scalloped fretboard?
@sittingontherooftop I ordered this body from their in stock selection so it came with a regular rout for the bridge that got routed over with the reverse (kinda like an x shape). Don't know if a custom ordered body will be routed just in the reverse angle though.
@Plywoodhall they don't but it's really not that hard. U need to drill a few holes for jacks and tuners and pickguard (if you're getting one) and do a little soldering but it's really pretty simple. You can also download wiring diagrams for any pickup combo you're looking to put in.your new custom. Good luck
Love you finish. What did you use on the body? I'm on my second warmoth build, love their stuff. I would like to see more contrast with an aged pearloid pickguard.
That's a really nice-sounding guitar, dude! The bridge pickup sounds nice, warm, and full. Lots - if not most - Strats sound thin and brittle; to my ears, anyway.
@jembrannan Nope, all dimarzio pickups (virtual solo in the bridge true velvet middle and red velvet in the neck). She'll be getting some handwound pickups soon though from rumplestiltskin (check them out...great pickups and cheaper than fralins)
how would you say the action is? that's the only thing i like, i understand alot of blues/jazz guitarists like abit of higher action. but i like my action to around 1-2mm throughout the neck, dont like to fight the guitar. the action looked pretty low on yours.
@nihility666 This guitar is the easiest playing strat I've ever owned. The action on this sucker is right at about 1 mm. I have the compound radius warmoth pro neck and had to do a little adjusting since I'm not used to setting up a compound radius but finally got it lower than the width of my pick which is 1.14mm....and yes it is the double expanding rod. Hope this helps.
@nihility666 Nah...It's only useful if you plan on making a guitar without a pickguard...makes the strings a little closer to the body for playing ease.
@Lordgout Thanks, be careful though. I did it to my mexican strat and found out too late that the body was made from 3 or 4 different pieces of wood that did not match. Had to paint it again cause it was so ugly. Good luck.
@FOXC810 After i stained the body (be sure to let the stain dry completely or you'll run into problems later) I finished it with 4 coats of tung oil to seal it. I don't like the sound or the feel of the heavy poly coat most guitars have nowadays. Tung oil is a lot prettier in my opinion but doesn't protect the wood as well. You can use as little as 2 coats if you just want water protection or to get a more "woodier" feel and in either satin or glossy. What kind of woods are you using?
buildin a new guitar myself from parts I'm buying. Want a trem but not sure what to go for. I like to be a little extreme with it. Hows yours stay in tune and have you use many otherS and could recommend one.
Never had a floyd or schaller and thinking about getting one. Use Ibanez low pro with pretty good results till they get a bit old.
@FOXC810 Thanks, the color is a mix of ebony (1/4) and jacobean (3/4) from minwax. As far as tremelos, the floyd rose is a little brighter sounding in my opinion than the ibanez edge with the same kind of functionality. With the addition of a tremsetter, you can make your full floater into a hardtail for more options. My tremelo setup with the addition of a tusq graphite nut is ok but is not perfect, but I like the sound of the old strat trems. Any more questions feel free to ask. good luck
Great job bro and amazing playing! :) i loved the way you explained the scalloping , I'm ordering a neck from warmoth for my strat the original is starting to warp/twist for some reason =\ this time it gets the scallops lol thx for the review man =)
