  • I just can't understand why the nurses and the post op people always look at me like I'm nuts, as my kids screaming, and I'm asking for pain med for her. Obviously, when they push the distal tubing under her skin, all the way down her neck, through her abdominal muscle..not to mention the double bubble behind her ear, and the irritation to the dura causing nausea, etc...after checking for LOC, ...give the meds already!

  • Aww my poor darling my son had that done on tuesday or the 19th of july 11 he is five months old its terrible :'( shouldnt have watched that

  • @ilynathan101 your a fucken werido for pretending this is your son, go get a life.

  • amazing work

    shukran.. thanks

  • To watch this and see my little girl makes me know and feel how wonderful God is and how strong my little girl is and that i should not take advantage of our lives. She to me is a miracle. I was told she wouldn't live past birth, then 1 day. then a year and she lives today. I was told she may not be able to walk or talk or hear or see and she is doing all of those things. My daughter is who inspires me.

  • It ended up that she did not have cysto-meningocele , the pressure of the water in her brain caused her skin to pert rude out causing a massive bubble in the back of her neck. The doctors were unsure of whether there might be some membrane in the bubble before birth. So a C-section was performed. They placed vp shunt and with 3 weeks of life she had 3 shunt surgeries and 1 a few months after that around 8 months of life.

  • My baby girl is now 2 years old when she was born ,she was diagnosed with congenital hydrocephalus which also caused cysto-meningocele. They said she wouldn't even make i through birth. It was odd to the doctors that she had cysto-meningocele because it was on the back of her neck. After three days of birth she had surgery to place a vp shunt and the meningocele, It ended up that she did not have cysto-meningocele.

  • i have this shunt and this makes me cry

  • @MrYouthpast0r

@hithere00000 I also had vp shunt on my right coz i have a tumor in my brain which was known as ''Meningiomas '' & coz of that there was an extra water pressure in my brain which was causing black outs in my both eyes anyways doctors put vp shunt in my right and next day the treat my tumor by Gama knife surgery ,,, Thats all happened 20-days back ,,,Anyways after vp shunt my black out vesion problem solved now i can see every thing clear but that shunt seems bit strange

  • I don't mean no disrespect at all what so ever ,but is that a real baby ? Look at the skin it looks like plastic

  • @lonelyboy323 It looks like plastic because part of the sterilization procedure is covering the skin with a thin adhesive plastic sheet this way you minimize exposure of wound to free skin which inevitably is the home to deep rooted resident bacteria

  • What happens to the catheter as it grows?

  • @SvrbiMeNos The Catheter doesn't grow. ( I don't think so) after a certain amount of time, the shunt has to be replaced. In my case, I had my shunt placed in when I was 27 hours old, and had to have mine replaced 17 years later. I am a hydrocephalic, I have a VP Shunt, and what I just saw was amazing.

  • @jerdawg19821

I meant the child (boy or a girl) "as it grows" :)

so, you were able to get fully grown o.O a baby - to a grown person, and the shunt as you call it was somehow long enough, I haven't noticed that in the video there should be, basically, one meter long shunt somewhere inside that tiny body I'm confused, that's amazing o.O

  • @SvrbiMeNos I am a full grown adult, The shunt itself stays the length it was when it was placed. What happens is after a certain amount of time the shunt needs to be replaced. In my case for the shunt needed to be replaced, I experienced massive massive migraines. I don't get headaches at all, so when start complaining of headaches, I know something is wrong.

  • I had meningitis-c (the most deadly type) and hydrocephalus when i was 4 weeks old, I was actually pronounced dead at one point, its nice to actually get to see the actions implemented to save my life, thanks for uploading.

  • Is it peritoneal cavity or in heart chamber ?

  • @love9touch peritoneal cavity

  • @love9touch That's the child's head. You can see his ear.

  • lease im sorry don't do that T_T leave me a lone

  • excellent and very informative video....

  • very good

  • excelente video

  • Re 3:36

You can access the ventricle without burrowing through and killing brain matter?

  • Very cool and informative video!! Thx!! Keep posting.

  • @howardkevinm My shunt also is on top of my head. What you feel behind your right ear is the rest of the shunt tubing that leads down to your abdomen or heart. Or else it's your pump (I think those still are used). I had my VP shunt moved to the top of my head in 1992 (no surgeries since) and I've had it since 1967.

  • i dont under stand. in the video you put the valve behind the ear. but my valve is at the top of my head and i have something else behind my right ear. what could be behind my right ear? i ask my doctor but he wont answer me. ive had my shunt at birth and revised at 12yrs old. im now 28.

  • @howardkevinm I'd surely change a doctor that wouldn't answer me. If he doesn't know he should find out.. He needs to love his craft like he loves his paycheck.

  • @howardkevinm The back of the head is usually used for children and infants. I had mine moved when I was about 7 to the top from the back.

  • thank you, its very informative..!!

  • having my baby surgery yesterday this was very helpful to see what they did to him

  • Ive had a VP shunt for 31 years -- last revision performed 17 years ago -- still doing ok :) -- pretty interesting to see the actual procedure done.

  • I feel the same way although I got a little nauseous seeing him make the incisions! the rest was cool :)--Thank you! @ mrswartz..you have a vp shunt..do you mean you need it revised or totally taken out? If you mean taken out..it would all depend on your history--my shunt is for hydrocephalus && its VP..but because of my complex history i was not a good candidate for EVT..if your shunt isnt malfuntioning I wouldnt even open up the other realm of possibilies..it gets too compicated! wooh lol

  • My son (age: 3months) just had the same surgery 2 weeks ago. It's nice to see the procedure...

  • how bad does it feel??? please answer me, i need my vp shunt removed.

  • As someone who's had a shunt for 45+ yr.s,I found it interesting to actually watch the procedure being performed. Thank You.

  • very clear..thank you.
