  • it sounds freakin american

  • @smileyraw see i love singing this over and over again but personaly i can do it much better acting and singing and i can even sing with a british acent! and im 12!

  • I'm not saying u can't sing but ur not acting the part.

  • im sad she doesnt have an accent :( its not ms.Lovett with out that accent i mean i can even do that accent

  • this chick can sing, and she cant be lipsinging because if she was then she wouldnt have been able to end exactly on the constanant.

  • She is great. I really enjoyed it. This is a HARD song. I would have loved to hear some more accent and treble.

  • i wasnt in any way trying to say that she was lip qynching, just noting how odd it was.....lol

  • torwards the end if you watch really closely you can see that her lips werentsynching with the music....

  • I have never responded to any of these comments, but I will to this one. She is not lip synching; that out-of-sync happened when digitizing video from an old-fashioned 8mm video camera. Also, for others, this was a senior vocal recital not a theater performance of Sweeney Todd.

  • @chairman34 But it is a musical theatre piece, not lieder, and acting just as important. Sorry. I liked it, but I think kellybean made a valid point.

  • :] pretty.

It's not actually supposed to be Sweeney Todd is it? Just a song?

  • There are more than one way to play a character...look at the way Patti LuPone played the part on Broadway.

  • @MTVMANN of course. i always felt as far as performances go, if i've ever seen a performance that outshines my own, i won't do it. not publicly anyway. if i'm not the best (or at least a match), then i don't perform it until i am. but that's just my opinion.

  • okay... the character's more of johanna... too bright... to sung... some of the song needs harsh elements to it...

  • Lovett's voice is fantastic, but it was played far too straight, she didn't have the right character

  • agreed.

  • You have a stunning voice, but I think you could have added a little "quirk" to the character. It seems a little too bright and cheery for Mrs. Lovett.

  • well mrs.lovett is kinda bright and cheery just in a crazy way XD

  • lol. it a psychotic mass murder cover-up way XP

  • holy crap i wish i could sing that fast!!!!!

  • good , but the costumes should have been WAY better.

  • I don't think it was the actual musical. The description says it was a recital for this one girl. It's not the entire musical... they didn't need costumes.

Yeah. She should have acted more depressed, but her singing overall was decent.

  • yeah thats true... & yea the singing was great :)

  • you have a veryy good voice :)

    weldone

yue shouldd have acted more depressed though lol.

very well preformed loved it :)

  • Outstanding! I really liked this version.

  • Hahaha, the pianist messed up the last two big chords. lol

It's okay, though. I mean, I looked at the piano accompaniment, and it's really hard to play. lol

  • she needs a mic. but other then that a great song!

  • your good but if ur gonna do sweeny todd u need to do the cockney accent otherwise it just sounds...odd.

other than that it was brilliant x

  • She has gone a little "vague"as she mentions, look at the conditions she lives, her shop is decadent, she has a brittish accent. But your voice and looks are fabulous, put some acting and the accent and boom! superstar.

  • great voice.. wrong song!

personaly i don't think americans can ever play lovitt

  • Pretty good job!

You have a very good voice, but just a little London cockney accent and a little bit of acting, and there you are.

But all in all very good :]

  • weird acting. sweet voice.

  • Love the voice, but there's absolutely no accent. Sound like an American in London...

  • Video is poor quality, but she is very talented! Amazing voice, well done! Jx

  • sweet pipes!

    still, add some craziness.

Mrs.Lovett isn't complete without some WHACK.

    ha ha ha.

    Good job, though.

Just add craziness and BANG you've got mrs.Lovett

    <3

    all my love,

    Jay S.

  • Great job, but I agree, she wasn't crazy enough.

  • Your voice sounds great but you have to take some acting lessons...

  • ehhh. she could have went a little crazy. set the moood. i mean. you cant re enact sweeney without a littl bit of an eerie feeling. i mean the story is just nuts

  • This is good. She's got a really good voice, and she's a good actor. So it's great just looking at it. But if you look at Mrs. Lovett's character, it's not great. I mean, she's not crazy enough as Lovett...

  • wonderful voice !

    absolutely amzing [:

    but its

a little too nice for Mrs. Lovett.

  • Wonderful singing! You did a nice combination of the "Lovett's"

When you put emphasize on certain words like "And I'm telling you them pussycats is quick" it was very comparable to Patti Lupone.

Your over-all voice is comparable to Helena. Beautiful, and sort of high.

Angela put some exaggerated things in it. The way you did your voice when you said "Times is hard" was comparable to Angela.

I am presuming this is you, am I correct to do that?

  • Awesome singing!! :D

  • i couldnt really hear her

  • w00t! kentucky!

  • that's what I was thinking!

  • i wanna learn how to sing like that!

  • No you don't.

  • Oh my. Hahahaa.

  • woooow

    really nice vooice

    i loove it

but her acting is not the best

    =)

    kiss

  • What a bunch of goofs. If you only read what's up in the info part of the video - IT'S A SENIOR RECITAL FROM EASTERN KENTUCKY - NOT A SHOW. No costumes because she's wearing a dress for a vocal recital. It's not a performance of Sweeny Todd. She sounds great and it seems almost everyone loves her voice!

  • If I were watching the show for the first time, I wouldn't have even been able to tell that she was a baker. Just try to work on acting. You have a good Lovett voice though

  • Well, it looks high school done. So it is most likely low budget, Their costumes are good, either. Her singing is good though.

  • Dude! I wanna learn how 2 play this on the piano!! T_T ..also, at some parts, the singing dosen't match her mouth movements! :o

  • awesome voice!!!

    i love it!!! :)

  • this sounds like the way it was sung on the 2005 cast album, did you base it off that?

  • her voice is good, her acting is horrible

  • i agree

  • I agree, too. Awesome voice, not too good of an actor...

  • amazing voice

  • i am a singer to and damn that girl has a beautiful voice she needs nothing else she could sit in a chair do nothing else ad it would be enjoyable if she sang this song she has that livly voice that just entrances you in the song

  • she has a beautiful voice

  • She did pretty good, but it would have been better if she had the english accent.

  • true, however that accent is actually really hard to do without losing the words. Angela Lansbury is one of the few i know of who can do it. i think this hard song to do and i think shes brilliant for being able to do it with or without the accent.

  • Its not that hard. Once in my drama class, as a project we had a to pick a musical and sing every song from it. And i sung everything from No place like london, to nothings gonna harm you in an english accent.

  • i didnt say that english was hard. i was refering to cockney english. Its hard to do that WITHOUT LOSING THE WORDS OR SOUNDING TOO CHEESY (capitalized for emphasis only. no anger here.:))

  • She kinda sucked in the beginning, but grew better! I hated the costume though... XD

  • Its only a showcase, not a major theater performance.

  • its a showcase in showcases props and costumes usually are not used

she has a great voice thats a hard song to pull off!!!

  • I like her voice[:

  • where's the cockney accent?

  • wow yeah he really looks like a sadistic barber bent on revenge lol thats ok I'm sure he has a good voice so does this Mrs.Lovett but she doesn't really act the part maybe its just the song though idk

  • She's not acting the part because she hasn't any props TO play the part. No tray of old pies, no rolling pin, no bottle of ale or beer stein, no lump of dough to pound into, basically nothing to show Lovett's deranged energy. There was barely an imaginary cockroach for her to react to. :P

  • hahaha I see your point but hey what about costumes ? lol ^^

  • This is based on the Steven Sondheim musical, not the movie. In the Sondheim musical, they hardly use any props. It's supposed to be that way.

  • They use nearly if not all of everything I mentioned in the original musical too.

  • true but thats what pantomiming is for. And anyway, it isn't that hard to make a thing of dough urself.

  • True, but she's barely even pantomiming. :P

  • This was only a BFA showcase, like a senior recital in college! It wasn't a performance of Sweeney Todd, PEOPLE!!! She performed a series of songs from various musicals. This was a requirement for graduation. Cut her some slack! She's awesome!

  • thank you for seeing that

  • Was the pianist blowing up the piani while the play or was that him playing?

  • she was really good and all but it wasnt mrs lovett enough but yeah still very good

  • good voice, is this a rehearsal though? Not dresses for a performance, not Sweeney enough.

  • Well, Sweeney Todd is a Brecht piece in the dvd version so maybe it's a choice she made. In Brecht, characters address the audience and sing their songs. Angela Lansbury looks at the audience alot.

  • what exactly is this? Its not a production I'm guessing. Looks like a rehearsal or an audition.

  • Your cool! I like it.

  • Please stop looking at the audience.

  • You can't really say that to a video that's already said and done!!!

  • its a suggestion for the future....

  • You are good, but the lack of a Cockney Accent bugged me, and you need to look Sweeney, not the audience.

  • How can you look at Sweeny when you've got"the worst pies in London". Great job in singing and I love your "Gimme Gimme"

  • Thats what I said.

  • Great voice but you look at the adience to much. I'm an actor too. If you would like some advice you need to look at him more than the adience. Pretend that the adience is not even there.

  • she looks a bit stiff .. and the piano ... is alittle out of tune but she has a nice voice

  • that was pretty good! awesome job!

  • that dude can barely play the piano

  • If you've ever seen or tried the piano part then you might be a little more lenient.

  • The Cockney sounds a bit odd without the accent, haha.

    Nice voice!

  • I think just needs some direction.

Seems to be a good actor or at least a heckuva lot of potential.

And obviously has a great voice.

  • I think you should have done a bit less 4th wall (acting to audience) and a bit more to yourself ans Mr. Todd, but i think that your acting is great. It is a quieter version of Lovett, similar to Helena Bonham-Carter's version. Well Done!

  • Gorgeous voice... boring to watch. Your acting just isn't "BIG" enough. Nonetheless, you have a fantastic voice.

  • Mrs. Lovett needs to be crazy. I mean she's like literally INSANE, and one of the best characters in the musical theatre cannon. Just reference to Angela, or Patti and you'll see just how much work it is. But otherwise, not a bad performance, really nice voice.

  • I agree. She's good, but not the weirdo Mrs. Lovett should be.

  • also agreed...u could do much better if u studied different mrs.lovetts...but thats ok..u have a great voice

  • I'll just say what everyone else is saying. Pay attention to your character. Sondheim pays VERY special attention to his characters and expects his actors to do the same.

  • Excellent job

  • I agree. beautiful voice but needs more feeling on the acting. You seem more concerned about how you sounds than how you look. But it sounded great :)

  • ZOMG

    Lovett is TO hottie

    mmmmmmmmm hottie

  • wow, u actually have an amazing voice, although, id have to agree that u could ahve worked a bit on ur acting. i dont know if u were directed so, but i think that maybe u could have talked to sweeney over there a bit more and less 4th wall, sorry to be critical, but still, amazing voice.

  • Your voice is pretty good on this song. Just work on the specificity of your acting choices. If you vary your choices it makes for a more dynamic performance.

  • beautiful singer, but could've done with more acting... again a beautiful singer but she's to cheery to be mrs. lovett. again, beautiful voice

  • great voice but the acting was ok she shouldnt be smiling so much when she sings this song and she couldve made the audience laugh a little more with the delivery of the lines, and some moe movement but her voice is made for b'way

  • Awesome voice.

  • great voice indeed but it needs more movement and more enthusiasm.

  • beautiful voice, she has. She could have put more enthusiasm in it, but I dont care. I love the voice too much.
