dude i just pulled one of these like last friday. now that i see it done slightly different i can increase my aresnal. so now when people stack on me if i dont want their arms im going for the knee bar.
This was actually the first thing I learned to either counter an opponent standing in my guard, or if someone stands and pulls their arm out of an armbar attempt I also use this. I like it alot.
i think you bring up a good point. I just try to stay out of my opponents full guard, but learning how to counter a move like this would be very useful.
I posted a video response of a tournament match where I fight in the open division and get caught with this submission! I know...am I nuts for posting vids of me losing... maybe!
Nonetheless, he used this technique to off balance me, I defended the knee bar but he took the toe hold. Check it out and let it respond if you think it is on point.
I appreciate the footage. There are many people out there that look at the instructional videos and say "that would never work in a live match". This is yet another example that it can, in a live match. Thank you for posting it and allowing us to see. You're always a class act Tim.
I have been trainning BJJ in Brazil for twelve years and nowadays I've using this tips in my trainnings... Congratulations... Very useful this knee bar...
if you get the kneebar it's pimp. as far as a sweep though I 'd probably want the star sweep as my "go to" b/c if I miss the toehold I'll probably get side-control.
It's similar to what Mir did to Lesnar. Mir says that the knee bar came out of an calf cutter attempt and he used what was there. You'll find it if you search Mir and calf cutter. Either way this is another kick ass tech from Submissions 101
i love your moves.. love to meet ya..

is this the same technique as the knee bar sweep done by frank mir on brock lesnar?
deadwrong21 2 years ago 3
jap he used his sweep but instead of the knee bar he did an ankle lock
abcjuju312 2 years ago
No, although he was gripping the ankle pretty tight, it was still a Knee Bar.
Mir has a video here on YouTube when he talks to the MMA girls about just that.

as soon as you see it coming, i usually just kneel down on the knee he's trying to lock, lose his grip and pass to side control.
