  • woww! que performance

  • @ mr spender888

are you dumb or dumb? this is jazz.

  • No credit for the bass player ? MJOrchestra didn't mention Mark Egan ! what a great bass player he is .

  • Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco . uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco .

    I really like this video.

  • --== David Matthew's MJO rulezZ ==---

  • nice interpretation

  • I saw that bass player on North Sea Jazz last friday, with the NTI All Star band...

    Still has this haircut :P

  • the alto player sounds like david snaborn

  • This song alone makes me want to pick up my sax and jam.. but this version has such a great groove, such an awesome sound... I can listen to this and jam 24/7 with it! ☺

  • yeaaah

  • i recognize freedom of expression and music is all subjective and all that junk, but to me this arrangment is rather chesey, but this style really appeals to the majority of non-musician jazz listeners, and these guys have to make money so i can understand.

  • Yah this is in Aminor for some reason

  • Is that Skeletor in the backgorund or a Meth Addict?

  • Comment removed

  • I think the alto-saxophone got the best solo, but the others are good too.:)

  • Yeh I agree! at 3:05 it sounds like bee or a wasp buzzing or something, amazing! :-)

  • ...why I can't I find the chinese orchesta insturments of the TAKE 5? ...It's all western insturments playing =.=

  • Cuz its jazz? I dunno, I haven't usually seen chinese orchestra instruments play jazz.

  • Great post mate.

    All the best for 2010.

    Love from Bonnie Scotland.

  • sounds interesting, please let me know if you find it

  • haha david sanborn with chops

  • wow....amazing

  • This is so HOT!!! Man it makes me go crazy when i hear it.

  • Dang I've watched this like 100 times at least and I never get bored of it

  • THE Dave Matthews!!! Great tune, great video - Thanks!

  • that alto solo rock

  • I mean man.. no one else thought that it was HILARIOUS the way he counted off the song.lol

  • haha why dyou think it was hilarious?

  • uno dos tres cuatro cinco

  • crazy first sax solo!!!

  • chris is my uncole

  • Perfect!!!

  • cool arrangement. I like it. I was waiting for the drum solo lol.

  • lol the alto player takes a breath every 2 beats

  • Yo that a sax is just amazing. Like...all of his runs are perfectly executed. I play t sax myself so i was hoping for a longer t sax solo , but all the seaxs blend well and do a great job toghether. Band was great too :)

  • Incredible job, except for one thing: bariton...there's kinda an "e" at the end...

  • Eb in the original key i think :P

  • very good

  • The bari player is so boring. Not because of his playing, but because he just stood there almost motionless the whole time. He looked bored and looked like he had better things to do, lol.

  • Super

  • This alto player kicks ass! Sanborn's style.

  • Agreed. Alto player shows off some great techical skill.

  • hi i play alto saxophone, i think its a good modern interpritation of take 5, so i dont think it can really be criticized as it was never suppose to be a replica of the original . Both this and Brubecks original version are awesome, but very different!

  • I love the alto sax solo!!!

    He played incredible lines:)

    what's that guys name?

  • chris hunter

  • demasiados ejercicios ,carente de feeling

  • the alto player is kinda like an alto version of michael brecker

  • yeah! interesting version of take 5

  • uhm, no

even chris himself would disagree with you

  • Oh my, this is very good :P

  • exelente sax alto imrprecionante sonido!!!!

  • HAHAHA They called it Bariton Sax =D lol

    This was pretty hot...

  • Definately different style from original Paul Desmond and Brubeck quartet style, but I like it. This is an interesting twist.

  • Nice nice nice nice... love it

  • Sounds too much like music found in an elevator.

  • Maybe an elevator to heaven! H-O-T!!!!!!

  • Yeah, MY MAN, you`re a HIP dude. Modern and critical asshole !!! You know it all. No one fools you. That band, with fantastic sound and groove is crap for your ears. Right, God bless your superior brain. The world depends on you and your taste. Well done !!!

  • i didn't think i'd like this...

    but its awesome!

  • very good alto player, reminds me of sanborn great job guys

  • this sucks a lot. The feel is way too smooth.

    horrible "modern" jazz......

  • freedom of musical art :)

  • well, there's freedom in america. but i must say a mutilation at the very least. it's good that people still listen to this, but come on. if you're gonna change it, at least do it well.

  • excellent playing, but cheesy arrangement

  • i like the twist actually. don't compare it to the original. they are different. its cool though. xx

  • I suppose the thing to do for creativity and evolvement, is to rework stuff. But while this is of a high technical standard, frankly, it just doesn't get inside the coolness of the original. Neither was it supposed to I suppose?

  • nice arrangement for alto tenor and bari!

  • I've never heard a piece of music so ruined. Do those saxophonists not know improvisation, rubato, or even emotion?!

nothing like the Brubeck Quartet, they rule.

  • it sucks...Brubeck and his quartet is much much better

  • They're not trying to be Brubeck nor are they attempting to sound like him!

  • What do you mean they aren't attempting to sound like Brubeck? They are playing his most well known pieces! What else could they be doing but trying to be as great as the legend himself?

  • ...is that Mark Egan on bass??

  • Oh and what song is this where can I find the score?

  • this is awesome

  • Absolutely disgusting. Take Five is supposed to be subtle, with nuance. This horrible electric version is in your face, with horribly bright sax sounds, and a heavy, angry feel. I hate it. I really do.

  • This is almost better than the real take 5

  • This is the spirit of Jazz...new arrangements and new style of the "old" standars. I like this video.

  • I liked the original better, but i agree that this is the spirit of Jazz and this piece is a great work of its own.

I hate it when people try to act all snobby and say everything in jazz should be done like everyone before and never change anything!

  • Nice arrangement. I wasn't too keen on the original (sacrilege I know) as I like rock-jazz and this is terrific! More vids please. Out of interest what alto sax/year and mouthpiece. Of course, the sound depends on the player's technique and bone structure, etc. and each player will get a different sound. And where do these guys come from?

  • I don"t know about the mouthpiece etc, because out of the reason you already mentioned, I am ot especially interested in that. But the Sax-Trio come from the "Manhattan Jazz Orchestra", if you search for that you find some great tunes, some of them sadly ruined by Phillipine singer

    Sincerely Saxophonist1990

  • Sorry but I love this!

why not ,Take five or any tunes can be played in different style,,this is music man!

Beeing also a sax player, those guys are fantastic, all very impressive solists!

    Solid rythm section!

    Great band guys!

    Mario from Canada

  • It's okay, but nothing can beat the original. You can't improve upon perfection!

  • I'm sorry, but I don't like this. Take five has got to swing, and this is played completely straight.

  • ...besides the fact that these guys are noted players I feel the same...it has kind of a commercial approach. 5 stars for the ensemble playing and the soloists...but only 1 star for the arrangement.

  • wat a very nice piece...

    like this!!!!

thnx ya 4 a wonderful performance..

    ~Viva di Musica~

  • All about that bari sax my friends.

  • ha im a bari player and an alto player...the bari has an awesome sound considering you are a good player lol

  • I do find the arrangement a bit cheesy, but they are all great players and it's a treat so see some visual footage of Roger Rosenberg. He has a great bari sound!

  • OMG, Chris Hunter totally rocks, and for those of you who are totally obsessed with:" what mouthpiece" he woudl sound pretty darn close to that on a studentmouthpiece, it's the person that makes the sound.

  • THANK YOU!! Finally someone that understands....

  • espaciales...!!!

  • Yeah, this does sound like 80's porn!!! Ha, ha. This is just to elevator for me. I mean, this song was coooooool, you know. A little to cheeze for my taste.

  • Monster bass. Jesus god.

  • this song rocks so bad.

  • Hello YAS62CS:

You are wrong about the tenor solo style and licks! George Young is an original soloist that can never be duplicated by anyone! George would never duplicate any other player either! Here is a bit of history for you....George and David were first call studio musicians in NYC for over 30 years. They would negotiate what studio gigs each of them wanted to take. Their styles are similar but different.

    Thanks,

    Sandra Young

    George's daughter!

  • Super!!!

  • Damn Chris hunter's a monstr and sound more on the sanborn side to me!! Whay piece is he using?

  • wow, when was this recorded? he kinda sounds like a mix between Nelson Rangell and Sanborn, with their Brilhart, Dukoff, or RIA mouthpieces. super edgy and bright.

  • Amazing.

  • That Bari Sax sounds sooooooo sexy

  • awesome group.

  • It sounds like played by SUSO-Gymnasium's Jazz-AG in Constance, Germany. The swinging and grooving Gerhard Heim must have arranged it.

  • It sounds corny, as played by a German school band.

  • what...the...hell...kind of arrangment..IS THIS?!?...jesus christ it sounds like a soundtrack to an 80's porno.....yuck..

  • Haha! That'd be a fairly swinging 80's porn.

I think it's an interesting take on it.

  • very good version of take 5 but i think the most original solo was played by the tenor and bari player. The alto sax player copied many brecker licks and on a alto it sounds pretty great but this doesnt change the situation that he copied the licks but the alto has a great sound though!!

  • these guys are great, although i can't say i dig the arrangement

  • Bass guitarist is Mark Eagan.

  • Killer stuff. Go bari! :o)

  • Great music. Thanks for posting this. More please
