This song alone makes me want to pick up my sax and jam.. but this version has such a great groove, such an awesome sound... I can listen to this and jam 24/7 with it! ☺
i recognize freedom of expression and music is all subjective and all that junk, but to me this arrangment is rather chesey, but this style really appeals to the majority of non-musician jazz listeners, and these guys have to make money so i can understand.
Yo that a sax is just amazing. Like...all of his runs are perfectly executed. I play t sax myself so i was hoping for a longer t sax solo , but all the seaxs blend well and do a great job toghether. Band was great too :)
The bari player is so boring. Not because of his playing, but because he just stood there almost motionless the whole time. He looked bored and looked like he had better things to do, lol.
hi i play alto saxophone, i think its a good modern interpritation of take 5, so i dont think it can really be criticized as it was never suppose to be a replica of the original . Both this and Brubecks original version are awesome, but very different!
Yeah, MY MAN, you`re a HIP dude. Modern and critical asshole !!! You know it all. No one fools you. That band, with fantastic sound and groove is crap for your ears. Right, God bless your superior brain. The world depends on you and your taste. Well done !!!
well, there's freedom in america. but i must say a mutilation at the very least. it's good that people still listen to this, but come on. if you're gonna change it, at least do it well.
I suppose the thing to do for creativity and evolvement, is to rework stuff. But while this is of a high technical standard, frankly, it just doesn't get inside the coolness of the original. Neither was it supposed to I suppose?
What do you mean they aren't attempting to sound like Brubeck? They are playing his most well known pieces! What else could they be doing but trying to be as great as the legend himself?
Absolutely disgusting. Take Five is supposed to be subtle, with nuance. This horrible electric version is in your face, with horribly bright sax sounds, and a heavy, angry feel. I hate it. I really do.
Nice arrangement. I wasn't too keen on the original (sacrilege I know) as I like rock-jazz and this is terrific! More vids please. Out of interest what alto sax/year and mouthpiece. Of course, the sound depends on the player's technique and bone structure, etc. and each player will get a different sound. And where do these guys come from?
I don"t know about the mouthpiece etc, because out of the reason you already mentioned, I am ot especially interested in that. But the Sax-Trio come from the "Manhattan Jazz Orchestra", if you search for that you find some great tunes, some of them sadly ruined by Phillipine singer
...besides the fact that these guys are noted players I feel the same...it has kind of a commercial approach. 5 stars for the ensemble playing and the soloists...but only 1 star for the arrangement.
I do find the arrangement a bit cheesy, but they are all great players and it's a treat so see some visual footage of Roger Rosenberg. He has a great bari sound!
OMG, Chris Hunter totally rocks, and for those of you who are totally obsessed with:" what mouthpiece" he woudl sound pretty darn close to that on a studentmouthpiece, it's the person that makes the sound.
Yeah, this does sound like 80's porn!!! Ha, ha. This is just to elevator for me. I mean, this song was coooooool, you know. A little to cheeze for my taste.
You are wrong about the tenor solo style and licks! George Young is an original soloist that can never be duplicated by anyone! George would never duplicate any other player either! Here is a bit of history for you....George and David were first call studio musicians in NYC for over 30 years. They would negotiate what studio gigs each of them wanted to take. Their styles are similar but different.
wow, when was this recorded? he kinda sounds like a mix between Nelson Rangell and Sanborn, with their Brilhart, Dukoff, or RIA mouthpieces. super edgy and bright.
very good version of take 5 but i think the most original solo was played by the tenor and bari player. The alto sax player copied many brecker licks and on a alto it sounds pretty great but this doesnt change the situation that he copied the licks but the alto has a great sound though!!
woww! que performance
