Awesome how the trend at Disney (Buena Vista division in this case) is not only making their own films but bringing some of the best of foreign animation (this and the Miyazaki films) to the USA. It's wonderful. Still, I wish I would have seen a single mention of it before it was nominated for an Oscar.

Just a little background as I think it helps when watching this film...The Book of Kells, a manuscript copy of the four gospels, was created by Irish monks...it is considered one of Ireland's greatest treasures and it's art work is phenomenal...the film tells the story of its creation at a time when Viking invaders plundered the monasteries stealing their treasures......a very brief synopsis! Here endith the history lesson :0)

It is nice to see something different.

Story is everything how well it is animated is only second to this fact. Disney and Pixar are at the top of the pile for animation, but to me at least, all of their movies seem the same. I mean it may be a different time, place or theme, but the pacing and the plots all seem to be alike. I really love animation, but it is a chore just to make my self go to see a Disney or Pixar movie, Maybe it would be different if I had children huh?

@cambaprecoz It's a manuscript containing the 4 gospels, created around 800. It's been in the possession of Kells Abbey for centuries. It could have been made there, or in Iona, or Lindisfarne. It's one of the most extravagant manuscripts preserved.
