Love this. Derek is definitely a role model for living radically for Christ. I recently read through 2 Timothy 3 and I was reminded of a section in the middle of the chapter.
v. 12-13
"12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it..."
People are too often comfortable with their version of the truth, and it is too hard for them to hear the blunt, honest truth. And yet each and every one of us needs to hear it, and HEED it.
Unfortunately its not that black and white Derek. Jesus, "Grew in stature and in favor with God AND man." People who are seeking the truth, love the truth, even if it is a hard word. You shouldn't base truth on whether people respond negatively...that is a formula someone who wants to say extravagant things and not be held accountable for them.
@chrisdgough Honesty reality bothers you doesn't it? Do you have the mind and heart God gave you or the one the mistranslated man made version of the bible indoctrination thing goig on? Maybe you should get into politics. You know since you are so pure and all.
@wolfhybred Ha! Not sure where you are getting the "so pure" thing, but since you disagree with me, that means I'm right...Right? That was my only point, a metric of someone disagreeing with you is not a good metric for truth.
@chrisdgough It did. He won respect talking to them about what they agreed on. Then when he spoke how it WAS... they, the SAME men that loved him growing up, killed him.
DW is either telling the truth and wrong, or not telling the truth at all, according to his own "wise" standard, and judging by the 5-star rating thus far. You guys apparently love him for his words. He probably would have been better off keeping his "wise man's" slogan to himself, as it is more probable to find love than disregard, given the audience DW generally draws.
by your standards apparently his point is proven if you don't like him because of this very verse lol. and yes many pople do like him but a lot of his songs delves deeper than most preacher's are willing to go so yea he is bluntly honest and i admire him for it, others may not
Suffering? What about health, wealth, and prosperity... Oh wait, that was a cross, wasn't it. :/ Never mind. Something about love and suffering...Right. I think you're right. :)

Derek tells it like it is. Somebody should force Joel Osteen to watch this.

I don't love him for his words.
I love the message in the words.I love the gospel. I love the One from where the gospel comes.

NOTE TO SELF: Listen to this clip at least once a week as a reminder to what the Scriptures say about discipleship and consumerism.
