What a beautiful Border Collie. You guys do great things,be proud. We adopted a 9 year old from a country pound. He weighed 36 kilos!! is very aggressive but loves us to death. He is a very scary dog, always wanting to hold you in his mouth, and has the best "eye" ever.He has a huge grin with teeth right out! He really is improving a lot. He loves our rabbit and tolerates the cat. We didn't think he would improve but he does all the time. He is incredibly observant and figures things out quick.
Thanks for the comment. Glad to hear that you got your dog 'going' and he is doing well. Jamie turned out to be one of the few dogs through that year that showed absolutely no herding instinct whatsoever. This is really down to fate and his breeding. He was with us for a while and had plenty of chances, but for him, sheep hold no interest.
His timid nature was due to lack of life experience. This has changed and he has become more confident but still has no drive to herd.
VERY interesting. And it looks fun! I love my rescue (blue merle) BC she was similar as far as the phobia's and insecurity I see in Jaime.
Nice to know she had an option to work or not, but be loved regardless. This is a feel good video. I'm about to check out "Day In The Life " Thanks for the work you do!
My BC was very insecure when I got her 8 years ago. By showing her new things slowly and with a confident manner on my part she has come around and will tackle most anything with me now. Her breed is so smart and adaptable.
i dont agree with the last statement- my dog is a border collie and his parents i think were given all sorts of awards for their sheepherding and my dog tried it. He was great but hr is a great housepet too so i dont really belive that. anyway thats fine we all have diffrent opinions. But nice video and B-e-a-utiful dogs!
I don't agree either. My dogs come from strong strong working lines and are amazing. But in the house, they are more than glad to cuddle and just be my companion. My most mellow in the house, is the one who would work until she dropped dead if you let her. But one of her pups, would not make a good housepet. All he wants to do is work work work, his brother is a workaholic too but will settle down nicely in the house, but that's just mostly training.
is it easier to rehome a working border collie or one as a pet?sheep dog training is a big part of my life and i have never had a sheep dog that has never worked (maybe one thats a bit stubborn) lol keep doing a great job as its great what you guys do
Our assessments enable us to re-home the dogs where THEY need to go. Workers into working homes, non workers as pets. We also re-home for SARDA, Police Etc., and if suited, agility, flyball, obedience.
We allow them the space and opportunity to show us what they want to do and find THEM a home that suits.
With a breed with such a strong working ethic it seems the right thing to do.
I have a border collie tht was rescued in Fort Collins, Colorado. When we got her, she was a street dog. she was so malnourished, hey body was almost hairless, she had a four leg limp, and she was covered with scabs and scars. That was almost nine years ago. I'm proud to say that she is happy, healthy, and curled up right next to me as I type. Her name is Vasya. She is wonderful.
What a nice video. I like merles, but I didn't realise they were full of defects. All of the ones I've had have been very healthy. I do know that a merle has to have a merle parent, and that it's a dilution of any colour. IE. Red, blue and slate are dilutions of solid colours. It's nice to see them with sheep. All my merles herd.
Thanks for a great video. Keep up the wonderful rescue work you do, and thanks for doing such a careful job in your adoption placements. These dogs are lucky to have you looking out for their welfare.
I almost mistook Jamie as an Australian Shepherd! Oops. I always have trouble with the merles. I must say that I was somewhat stunned to see Jamie. His behavior just seemed to be so different and total opposite of what I have seen. I have seen a lot border collies, adults and puppies, being bold, running all over the place and play with each other. In your opinion, would Jaime have been a sheepdog if he had a different "childhood"? This is very fascinating...
great job! love the way you did the clip with information scrolling across... easily read and not too fast to absorb. and of course blessings to you for the work you are doing. Love the BCs !! btw great response to cost comment.
Hi fotobridget. Thanks for your comment and wise words about the responsibility of owning a BC. If more people thought like you we would have much less work to do. Our love to Liberty Ann.
Kudos to all the BC rescue organizations. This is a very difficult task that exists mostly because people see the cute puppies or smart dogs and 'want one too' without going to the trouble of researching the breed. A BC baby is a big responsibility and here's to those people willing to help clean up after other peoples lack of common sense.

are so sweet. My 17 week old collie is showing all the signs of being a natural worker, and at the same time a big softee, She is Etoile the Border collie, and she is on here with a few short clips
Thanks Balto32. Because of his sensitivity and lack of experience of the outside world, we were very pleased when we got an application from some people on the Shetlands. In this modern world it is still a quiet environment of mainly small, isolated communities where he can gradually get used to life without being stressed by having life 'forced' on him.
Freedom to roam, human company, fresh air and swimming in the sea - great. He keeps in touch and tells us he is doing very well.

Thanks for your comment. He did land on his feet and the other three that came in with him did equally well.
One of the three was a very timid, unsocialised bitch who hid in a corner most of the time until she was introduced to our flock of sheep.
Very rapidly came out of her shell as she was so focussed on the stock she forgot to be frightened of everything.
Rapid progress and socialisation - now re-homed as a sheepdog and doing just fine.
