  • i like him

  • After watching this I don't feel like he even talked about eating disorders at all, he didn't even seem to know what he was talking about at all and all in all I found it very boring. Sorry.

  • I think you should mention that we men suffer from eating disorders too. I can talk with my own experience of not been well accepted in lots parts of my life cause I am over weight.

  • This nut does not respond to e-mails he doesn't like, he is totally unrelistic, and has his head up his behind. What a fool. Let him work like I do in a cirist unit. Mr. no meds. Ha.

  • @MrJotloo This video was beautiful. I love listening to John. Shut your ugly mouth and spread hate somewhere else lol

  • hi docrot y your channel is blocked in saudi arabia i can watch your videos but cant watch your chanel

  • As someone who has had an eating disorder in the past, I find this very acurate and very logical.

  • @smokey5481 Anorexia is a mental disorder. Just like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder ect. It is a disease of the mind. You can't understand why someone wouldn't want to eat because you don't have an eating disorder. Simple as that. It's not a choice. It's a psychological disorder.

  • I don't think they really care if they look sexy or attractive. The women percieve a flaw in themselves that they can't get rid of. It could be anthing but weight is easier to control than other things in life, so that's what they obsess over.

  • @CanadiaNecro1

good point. it ISN'T about being sexy. it typically is about a perfectionist personality.. finding flaws in oneself and the constant comparison of oneself against others... Commercialism doesn't help, seeing "perfect" models can have seriously negative affects on suseptable (sp?) girls.. you begin to see ur imperfections asthetically and already perceive you have imperfections socially, intelligently and in the personality

  • i struggled so horribly w/ an eating disorder.. it's, a..mental darkness, like a monkey on ur back .. you can't escape the negativity in ur brain.. i sometimes wanted to just disappear.. but..i feel that i was able to escape it to such an extent that I no longer obsess. I had a baby, and that was so much more worthwhile, worth the day, worth the effort.. and something snapped. i never let my body suffer again like that. and that was almost 17 yrs ago.. i was 21

  • @CanadiaNecro1 You cannot generalize and say "they". Eating disorders are extremely individual mental illnesses - the causes and cares are different for each woman/man.

  • this was interesting

  • this guy is awesome

  • wow, he seems pretty lost. Sounds like he read an article in a glam magazing in 1973 and is using all the stereotypes. And why does he smile when he talks about this and keep saying "so-called" when talking about EDs? He comes across as being pretty unqualified to talk about this.

  • I agree.

  • USA is ruled by the FDA. The FDA approves of an experimental drug and then it's up to the medical profession to create a disease for it. The goal of the drug makers and the FDA is to have every person birth to death on drugs. I refuse to take persription drugs. If you ask for it you can probably get it.

  • you are wrong, 3erd world doesnt eat indigenous cousin, and we are talking about south america not asia, the national food of those countries its consider gourmet in many country and its full of carbs and cal, the fatness had been there always, but the society dont acept that, its a culture of beauty, where beauty is power, and it means a better job, a better treat, more opportunities than someone "fat", check on internet the recently ppl who died from an ED, they werent poor, get a look

  • funny how the ad on this video is 'lose 11 lbs of fat in 1 month!'

  • IS FOOD OUR NEXT TABACCO????

  • SUGAR -

  • IS FOOD A SUBSTANCE??????

  • ....hmmm fat is a feminist issue.

  • Why the "so-called?"

  • I enjoyed this - very interesting the effects of our western lives. Drugs, addictions (overshopping, over/under-eating), excesses of every kind.

The western world is very sick and likes to be down on, and "for", the third-world. We have a lot to learn about going back to the simple things and values which are so important to human nature - we are programmed like that.

    This lecture emphasizes this.

  • more than women have this disorder!!!!

  • ( i was meaning to convey " wealth" is a HUGE part of it,other than total personal choice. )

  • we almost NEVER come to a conclusion in regards to proving things in general. Prime example: unwealthy countries dont have the disorders. Wealthy rich ones do.

Nothing needs proving here,it's obvious. We so often excuse the completely obvious, saying,"you cant prove that" .. wow

  • maybe there are no eating disorders in 3rd world countries because there is no food so any food they get, they eat. so what you're saying is that eating disorders stem from people in wealthy countries having the choice to not eat? this may be true but it doesn't get to the source of the problem. for these illnesses it's food, if it's not food- it'll be something else. making observations like this doesn't do anything- it's pretty much irrelevant because it won't change anything i'm afraid!

  • ok that was supposed to a reply to plutoplatters below...

  • actually there are more eating disorders on the third world... because its a place where beauty is success... and FAT its just unacceptable... you wont see obese girls... they are not socialy accepted... they wont go to clubs or find good jobs... just like that... they would be totally exclude.. there is not like us that they keep with their life as fat girls...

  • you shouldnt know this.. but (japan is the first one) Argentina follow by Peru are the countries with more anorexic people (third world) you would be very surprised about how big are the anas and mias communities around "the third world" just google "ana mia princesas" and you would find how big is that...

  • just to give you an idea there was a campaign agaisnt anorexia and bulimia made by a cosmetic company using the writer of "abzurdah" (cielo latini, a young girl who used to suffer from ED) as the image for this.

  • I agree with the addiction model. Eating disorders are often comorbid with SUDs (Substance Use Disorders). Often an individual may have an addictive personality and develop one, the other, or both. Or recovering from an addiction can cause the individual to cross-addict and find another addiction.

  • It's not necessarily that our wealth has caused eating disorders. Correlation doesn't prove causation. True, we have more wealth than other countries and true, we have a higher percentage of the population suffering from eating disorders. The coexistance of these two doesn't point to eating disorders being CAUSED by the wealth. They may merely coexist. Our society happens to also be one that values a thin body more than other societies. There could be multiple causes.

  • It could be culture and corporatism and the way kids are brought up to love sugary foods. They are related to wealth, even though it isn't strictly the fact that we have more money in our pockets!

This doesn't really happen in every MEDC. Japan doesn't really have much of these "disorders".

  • japan is the country with the hightest number of anorexics follow by Argentina... stadistics confirm this information ... so...

  • Exactly. Correlation does not mean causation.

And eating disorders ARE found in countries other than America, including both westernised and non-westernised countries.

Eating disorders are also not just about being thin. In fact, that's something that is often focussed upon when really there is so much more to eating disorders and why they develop than physical appearance! It's not all about the media, but more about family structure, genetics and personality type.

  • John Breeding and Chipmunka give a voice to people who are told they are mentally ill around teh world. Well done for producing these videos !!!!!!!

  • It seems as though you're saying that people who happen to have a mental illness don't have a voice of their own?

Maybe you should look up some youtube videos of people who actually have an eating disorder... you'd learn a whole lot more about living with an eating disorder from them.

  • Thank you star counselor...they say my son is adhd /bipolar. Meds seem to just make him worse though.

  • i really wish i knew where this guy was....my son has been diagnosed with everything in the book ...been on multiple meds and is still not better:(

  • i feel for you. keep trying and dont let him give up

  • Dr. Breedings website is linked in the video description on the left of this video. You can find his contact information on his website. Also watch all three of his ADHD videos. The last two videos give general advice on dealing w/ children.
