  • Eminem brought me here

  • i think that there was a show about the jonas brothers and they shot here once

  • I wouldnt want to work there at night :-/

  • I got a tour of the whole studio yesterday! Freakin' Norman chased us with his knife..

  • Haha you can see Whoville in the background

  • damn , i will kill to walk in the motel and also to be able to walk in the lon stairs and go to the house and see mother

  • is this hollywood

  • JOHN MURDY!!!!!!!!

  • not accurate recreation.

The original hotel was made with cedar lap siding, not cinder blocks. It also didn't have sleeve air conditioners under the windows, and the windows were not picture windows but two double hung type windows.

This place looks like a chinzy 60s built dorm at one of the UC campuses.

    what a disappointment.

  • @Livinggreen100 I find it very admirable that you know about these details of the house :) not many people take interest in that, but I sure did. Pretty cool tid bit of information, thank you so much for sharing it :)

  • @pattisgirls Now I know why. They moved the house, and hotel in 1980 from its original location near Laramie St. It wasn't until 1998 that the house and hotel was seriously saved as and attraction of its own.

They still did a terrible job with that hotel. It really looks like a howard Johnson with "L" shaped structure put around it. I noticed too, the flourescent lights under above the walk-way. Terrible re-creation.

    Still fun place, I'm sure.

  • Shortest tour ever O.o

  • have you ever been on that tour? Norman lives next to the whos, no wonder hes crazy

and the whos, the grinch is the LEAST of their probs

  • @yupitsjessbbyx3 it used to be the set for the flinstones movie. how crazy.

  • Is this in Florida or California?

  • @Slidecage

    cali

  • @Slidecage los angeles in hollywood if you want to see the set you can! take the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour and you will able to see it and a guy dressed upp like norman goes in to nr 1 and later comes out whit a dead lady body, goes up to the bus and scares the heck out of you

  • They didn't even go up the steps and show us the house up close!!!! gutted!!!

  • I wish there was some way to cover the Dr. Seuse structures over the hotel, it kind of blows the mood.

  • you guys run for your life the psycho killer is gonna kill you

  • Thank you 214, felipe & bexcpfc for explaining this to us. Still a cool thing to see though. I always wondered if any of the scenes were shot in any of the rooms and now I know.

  • haha u can see whoville from the grinch right behind it lol kinda kills the scary part haha. i wish i couldve walked around there but i had to stay on the tram :(

  • i love this set! its good to see it in colors!

  • so this isn't the actual set from the original psycho? I've been on that tour more than once, and all these years I thought we were driving by THE site of the filming location. Are any of the buildings real? It' still cool, either way. Thanks for posting.

  • Holy crap... you rule for posting this video. Can't wait to see the full documentary!

  • Mad i love Psycho so much this vid is old man but it was there sorry im a little pshycho myself

  • there are actually 2 houses on the set, the original psycho house, and the 1998 remake house

  • The remake house is no longer there. It was built in front of the original house in 98, but taken down shortly thereafter so you could see the original house on the tour still...

  • I went to that set during Halloween Horror Nights 2008.

It was definitely an awesome experience!

  • omg!! ive died and gone to psycho heaven!!!

  • that is a dissapointing video.. they could have at least opened the first door and shown the room..

  • You can't open the door. It's sealed because there is nothing in there. It's a complete shell, like John explains in the actual video.

  • @pollyweb1 He clearly states in the video that "the Office and Cabin #1 are practical sets, which means there are real rooms inside them. Every other room in the Bates Motel is what we call a shell, which means they're just used for exterior filming."

  • @pollyweb1 no......on the tour an actor goes in there as norman

  • @pollyweb1 he said the office and the next room was a practical set. it would of been cool to see the inside for sho!

  • From what I've read, the motel is NOT the original. But the house IS. Also, the location (where the house and motel sit) is NOT the original site. Years it was moved (maybe more more than once). Although the house is original, the motel was rebuilt during the relocation.

  • From what i know and from some of what they are saying in this video, that is not the original site of the first movie but all the movies from 2 on was filmed at this site, the motel was clearly rebuilt because that motel now has masonry on on the outside in part 2 and 3 it is made of wood siding, i don't know if they totally tore down the other one or they just re faced it with masonry,as far as the house, i don't know if that is the original or not ,

  • Listen to what he says... 'Practical set' meaning that it is in fact an open set.

  • Rob is this doc gonna be on DVD?

  • Hoping for a TV airing this October and DVD release early next year for the 50th anniversary of the original. Check the My Space page for all the latest details! Thanks!

  • Thanks for the info.

  • i remember in 2006 when my dad took me to that universal studios on Halloween horror nights and they let us get off the Tour bus and walk through the house

  • Comment removed

  • yeah on the haloween horror nights of 2006 they let us walk through it

  • They don't let you walk through the house because it's an empty shell. There's nothing in there. All interiors were filmed on sound stages. They let you walk around the motel during Halloween Horror Nights.

  • Damn....that set is still setup? After all these years?

  • wow how cool! always been a dream of mine to visit the set. my fave movie ever :)

  • @Beattie77 you can! take the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour and you will able to see it and a guy dressed upp like norman goes in to nr 1 and later comes out whit a dead lady body, goes up to the bus and scares the heck out of you

  • any1 know when they will let you walk up on the motel and house again? i'd like to go to that.

  • They do that for Halloween Horror Nights. The tram stops in front of the "Grinch" movie set and they let you get out and walk up to the Bates Motel and all the way up to the house. They even have a person playing Norman Bates that you can take pics with.

  • I actually was there for Halloween horror nights and as weird and nerdy as it sounds being able to stand on the steps of the house is almost a religious experience, knowing there is so much history and that it gave so many people nightmares and it;s right in front of you, under your feet

  • pollyweb,

is there a complete video of this documentary??

would love to see it or purchase it.

  • Still working out the release details. Aiming for Oct. 09. Check the My Space page for the latest details!

  • why is it so famous i have just now herd of it and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,how did it all start

  • Check out the original movie...not the 90's remake, but the original 60's Psycho movie and you'll see why. It's an absolute classic and was first of it's kind back in the day.

  • Yes, check out the original 1960 Alfred Hitchcock classic and the 3 sequels, PSYCHO II, PSYCHO III and PSYCHO IV: THE BEGINNING.

  • The car is wrong. It's a 1959 Ford, but the car Marion bought at the used car lot was a 1957 Ford. That's what Norman put her in the trunk of, and pushed into the swamp which was conveniently right next to the motel.

This incorrect car does, however, have the correct license plate (NFB 418).

  • The ice box isn't exactly the same one from PSYCHO III either, but at least the staff at Universal's lot is trying!

  • i would kill to be able to check out the house. i just want to walk around inside, see his mom's room, the room where Meg Tilly took a shower, and of course, the basement. i went to Universal Studios but they didn't let us get off.

  • Did they replace it!? I would've loved a tour of the Bates Motel (I went to Flordia in '07).

  • It would have been nice if they actually went INTO room #1 and the office....

  • We couldn't. It's sealed off, and technically there's nothing in there. Otherwise, we would've.

  • ive been to universal studios as a VIP it costs £1000 and i saw the psycho set it was so cool!

  • how much did it cost to do this because iv been wanting to do this

  • ive just watched psycho for the first time ever omg it's like the best film i've ever seen!. Can you actually visit there then :O?

  • were the killings real, or is it just the movie?

  • the second film they talk about is the "remake" with Vince Vaughn. made in like...06 or 07.

probably the best remake of any film ever.

it sticks so well to the orginal.

    :D

  • it was actually done in 1998 and yes I was amazed at how close it stuck to hitchcocks original :P

  • Actually the second film we're talking about is PSYCHO II, the 1983 official sequel to Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO. Anthony Perkins played Norman Bates 2 more times in PSYCHO III (1986) and PSYCHO IV: THE BEGINNING (1990). All those movies are far superior to the remake.

  • I have heard that the house is built from forced perspective.

  • Forced perspective is true!

  • The first psycho was made by Paramount Pictures.

  • It was made by Paramount but on the Universal backlot. They were nervous of Hitchcock doing a low budget black and white horror movie, hence they let him film it at another studio. The house was moved from it's original location when they made Part 2 and has remained in that spot ever since.

  • fake

  • no its not, ive even seen it myself

  • 1:48 - 1:57

what is that in the back ground??

looks like universal studios theme park :S :S

is it? - if not what is ittt?

  • it is universal studios and what u see behind is who-ville the set for the movie "how the grinch stole christmas"

  • hey the guy with the baseball cap looks like Elton John!

  • isn't that the set or the remake because i swear the 1st 2nd and 3rd were all made of wood but this set is breeze blocks

  • The remake was shot on the same spot as 2 and 3. The actually built the "new" house for the remake right in front of the original house and tore it down after shooting. So all those movies (PSYCHO 2, 3, remake) were made on that spot.

  • so how come they film psycho 4 in florda

  • It was part of a tourist attraction. They were just opening the park in Florida, so part of the appeal for people to come was "Oh hey, they're also filming a new PSYCHO movie here!"

  • you know if you go to universal studois hollywood you could take a private tour tram that you could walk to thw whole thing halfway and the give you details

  • whats with the bates motel? is it haunted or something?

all ive heard of it is beacouse of horror nights in hollywood

  • The Bates Motel is from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho.

  • you can see suess landing at the end

  • u can see whoville in the background at the end

  • I recognize the score from Psycho III in the background straight away!! Awesome! :D

  • I love the music from PSYCHO III. So glad someone picked up on that!

  • i am goin on a hay ride there on friday for halloween

  • Cool, Thanks for sharing this! What is this from...DVD?

  • It's a promotional piece for the upcoming documentary THE PSYCHO LEGACY about the entire PSYCHO franchise. Check out the official My Space page for all the details!

  • cool video, wish we could have seen the inside of the house...:-)

  • The house itself is actually also a shell! It's empty space except for a ladder which leads to the window where mother's corpse sits! All the interiors of the Psycho house were shot on stages. :-D

  • so your telling me there going to be a new PSYCHO comeing out

  • No? Maybe eventually? BUT this is for a documentary on all the previous PSYCHO films.

  • thanks for this video. Bates house is beautiful.

  • i was on that set!!!! i went to hollywood horror nights and they let you walk through the bates motel. It was an awesome experience!!!

  • may you record your walking on a camcorder?^^
