The floorboards of the 950 have replaceable inserts if you scrape too much; keeps you from having to buy new boards every time they get messed up. I've only scraped them 3 times last year and none this year - if you're not riding aggressively, you'll never touch the boards unless the road is really uneven or built up incorrectly for the turn.
I saw another video of the XVS 950 and on each turn the footboard or something would scrape the ground. When you say the footboards will deck out easily, do you mean, they will scrape the ground if you turn too sharply? This seems quite a major downside to me as I'd want to keep the beauty in top condition! Not keen on continuously buying new footboards!
How did you manage that? On yamaha forums I have read so many people having footboard scraping problems on the XV1900 when taking turns, and even it was mentioned in motorcycle magazine and some online bike review website let alone this review lol Maybe you are just riding the motorbike 'correctly'? lol
ESSAS MOTOS SÃO LINDAS, MAS AQUI NO BRASIL HÁ ALGUNS COMENTÁRIOS RUINS COM RELAÇÃO A DURABILIDADE DO MOTOR, ESPERO QUE A YAMAHA VEJA O QUE ESTÁ OCORRENDO, POIS VOU ADQUIRIR UMA MID E NÃO QUERO TER PROBLEMA COM O MOTOR, QUE DURE UNS 30 ANOS NO MÍNIMO.
nice for summer cruising....its pointless mcn testers riding these type of machines...all they know is knee down race rep etc... the roads looked superb in this clip for cruising..
harleydabest well i have to disagree with you Yamaha are world class champion in MX, WSBK< WSSB, MOTOGP, BSBK, snowmoblie. they are a great company and built great bikes HD are nice but they are in a financial crises,
i found one dangerous thing about the expose drive belt. the possibility of flying rocks that will get caught in between the drive belt and sprocket. that could cause a breakage or damage to the drive belt and sprocket while riding, which could result in fatal accident or just accident while riding. yamaha must fully cover the drive belt housing properly to prevent any flying rocks or debris from getting caught in between drive belt and sprocket.
Would you say this is a good bike for a short-arsed beginner? I plan on doing my direct access and picking one up soon after. Is there anything else, maybe second hand, that you could recommend instead?
well if you have ridden and you now you can handle it, absolutley no, start on something smaller get something you wont outgrow, i started out on 150cc and 250cc dirtbikes i bought a 650cc vstar plenty of bike im 18 and i love speed but be careful safe riding!!!
A pal just bought one of these in black. It felt really nice to sit on, not too heavy, unlike some of the monster cruisers. Does anyone know what the servicing requirements are like ? Are the valves hydraulically operated ?
I got the "Tourer" model of this bike going on 2 months ago now. I've got 1800 miles on it, and i love it. VERY easy to ride, with good power at any speed really. At around 70mph i get a bit of a very small engine vibration, but thats it. A friend that rode it didnt notice it, so maybe its just me lol...
Very nice bike. Looks great, especially red one. I'm not a chooper fan but if I'd go for a cruizer this would be the machine. I think this is optimal package, not too heavy, easy to ride....beautiful

@jwardmagic07 I bought mine about 2 months ago and las week took a trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and the footboards never touched the ground.
Add to that the fact that the bike carried me and my wife for 700 miles during the weekend and it hung like the big boys. You can't go wrong with it

some yamaha don't have "HAZARD LIGHTS". ALL motorcycles must have
hazard lights as a standard feature.
can be very useful on emergency situations.
