Und stellte ich mir den Heiligen Geist als Fliege vor, statt als Taube, so sei's drum. Jeder dumme Junge kann einen Käfer töten, aber aller Professoren der Welt können keinen herstellen.
It is a kinda cute video, the toad's not actually being hurt and is obviously cool enough with the situation that he doesn't jump away but no, he's not enjoying it one bit. The stomach is his most sensitive area, he's trying to protect that along with his eyes (see how he really dives down with his head when it's being touched). Toads can learn to accept human touch very slowly and might appreciate the warmth from your hands after a while but that's about it.
I think the toad's trying to make itself appear larger in an effort to make you not want to eat it. this can work on small snakes. Although it looks really cute, the toad is probably freaking out.
i found a huge toad when i was living in florida and let it go in the house to scare my roomates. it didnt work so i threw it to the aligator in the swamp behind our house so it could eat it (which it did) lol
@Sumgui2009 snakes and other large reptiles eat frogs/toad all the time. The alligator swallowed the thing before the toad even knew what was going on. The only toads that do major damage is the Cain toads in austrailia.
@TheWaynelds Actualy, they don't. They eat frogs. Toads secrete poison. The fact the toad was so large, most likely made it a Cane Toad that was a pet at some point. They are extremely toxic.
@Sumgui2009 it was kind of a greenish brown and i found it in the park down the street with a bunch of other toads around the same size, so i assumed they were native to the area. I never heard of cane toads being seen anywhere else other than Austrailia and their nativeland (i forget where that is) It also wasnt very aggressive as i hear canetoads are. Well i've since then moved back up north, so no more throwing toads in the alligator infested swamp here.
Actually that's what toads do when they're threatened-- see those enlarged bumps near the back of his head/on the back of his neck? Those are poison glands. He's trying to put those as close to the touch as possible to poison the "predator" to get them to leave it alone. Hope they washed their hands! :D
Weird.. My pacman frog does the same thing. And it's not that he likes it. In fact he hates it, eventually turns around, and looks for whatever it is scratching, petting, or rubbing him and attacks it...
Some toads secrete a poison from glands behind their eye, and they'll aim those at what they perceive as predators (you poking him is threatening) my leaning their backs into them. So, he's really trying to defend himself hee. Cute toad though, I love them bumpy swamp crawlers :D
it is also a defense mechanism for them to tilt to the side towards a perceived threat to make themselves look bigger. They can't really run away so they try to appear big and secrete poison. I am not saying it is impossible that this toad is enjoying this and I do not think it is being traumatized or anything.
i dont know anything about frogs, but someone pointed out its eyes looks relaxed and they are breathing normally, i dont think they are being distressed, quite opposite if they respond
it is a defense mechanism, the toad shows off his highly toxic parotiod glands in the direction it is being approached from so that you don't eat it. i doubt it enjoyed the experience, other then the fact that he wasn't eaten
Nothing wrong with feeling affection for our animal friends; some of us very much enjoy that bond. Personally I love toads. They're gentle, they're funny, they're fat and lumpy. What's not to love?
But if a tender spot for animals isn't your thing, ok.
Personally, I toadally don't understand that mind-set--it's so far from my frame of reference-- but as long as you don't hurt them....
@Kronikwookie I dont scold people. I give them the facts. And I've commented on max 2-3 videos about this. Besides It's my right to state my opinion. And my opinion is that these "frog tickling/scratching videos are stupid, and that the people that believe that it is a fact that the animal would "like" it is pathetic. That's all.
i understand but calling another person's video 'stupid' isnt the same as stating facts. i know this is the internet, but try not to act like a jackass like most of the internet population. we have enough of those already.
I never said that a specific person was stupid. I said that toad scratching was stupid. And if some guy wants to subject himself to that, that's his problem.
I also think doing drugs is stupid, if a guy uses drugs then I guess he's stupid.
But let me level with ya.. yes I think this video is stupid. Why? eeeeehm I don't know. I MIGHT have something to do with the fact that I think the act itself is stupid. Wow, who could have guessed?!!
fuck dude this isnt that stupid it just shows interesting behavior of a toad and i dont think any one really thinks it likes it. a stupid video is the ones where they kill the toad. fucking sadists i hate them.
lol i went camping with some friends once and we cought like 50 of thos and tossed all in my sisters tent and put a lock on the zipper lol it was a small 1 bare big enuf for a person to lay down in llol

Its funny and lots of fun to do with a toad, but they don't really "enjoy scratching." Its a defensive behavior. Toads lean into things that appear to be attacking them to look bigger and to point more of their toxic skin towards the predators mouth.
I actually had one toad that would head butt me if I messed with her head.
I don't think its cruel to mess with toads like that, I do it all the time to mine. I don't think it bothers a tame toad, but its not enjoyable for the toad either.
The Mexican Burrowing Toad grows to 8 cm in length, and usually has red spots on its bloated body with a red stripe along the center of its back. It has short legs, and a small, pointed head. Its feet have horny, shovel-like appendages.they enjoy scratching...very much...love wikipedia
And its also not a mexican burrowing toad. Not even in the same family. That looks like an american, or fowlers toad. Family Bufonidae. The mexican burrowing toad is in the family Rhinophrynidae. It is toad-like, but its not really similar to this guy.
