  • Audi Famam illius

  • That is indeed the first line of the song, yes.

  • Great video, the images match exactly with the tones!

    10/5!!!!!

  • ATTN PPL WHAT FINDS THIS VIDEO

Please to not downvote the Latin geek. He helped me out.

  • And yeah the Nintendo translation is just BAD! What I'm assuming they did is translate it from Japanese into Latin, and then also from Japanese into English, so that the translations reflect what they're trying to say, not what they're saying. Who knows? I've yet to see a literal translation here on youtube; but nobody really cares about literalness except for us Latin slaves :-P

  • Not to be too nitpicky but you didn't translate "Equus" right, if you wanted it to mean "I've heard a legend (not "legends" as Famam is accusative/singular) of that horse". To say "of that horse" you'd have to use the word "Equi", not "Equus".

This is because Latin is an inflected language, which means grammar is determined by changing letters in the words. As it stands your sentence is unintelligible from a Latin prospective. I've studied Latin for 3 years, so I know. Hope this helps. Cheers.

  • This is all far enough, and thanks for the explanation. :) I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere on how to shift the meaning before giving up and taking a guess. (You wouldn't happen to know how to say 'I've heard a legend of that pirate', would you?)

As for 'famam', well, like I said, I just used the translation Nintendo provides, which I'm well aware is less than precise even though I don't speak a word of Latin. As I understand it, Nintendo's translation is more spiritual than literal.

  • No problem, glad to help! I can empathize with how you couldn't find how to translate "equi" properly, since Latin is unlike most modern Romance or Germanic languages in terms of grammar. Now, the word in Latin for Pirate is "Pirata" to say "of a pirate" you would say "piratae." So all in all "Audi Famam Piratae." Whether or not you include "illius" is up to you, illius basically means "that" w/o it you'd be saying "I've heard a legend of a pirate." Cheers and good luck.

  • 4 get it

    i read the info...

  • That's usually a smart thing to do BEFORE commenting...

  • This is "Spirit:Stallion Of The Cimmaron" right?

  • it is audi famam iliius google it

  • *facepalm*

Song's title = Super Smash Bros. Brawl Main Theme.

Song's opening line = Audi famam illius.

Fanvid's title = A PLAY ON WORDS, IMAGINE THAT

  • i always thought the song was audi famam illius XD

  • The song itself is titled "Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Main Theme", and the opening line is indeed "Audi famam illius."

The fanvid's title is a play on that - it means roughly "I've heard legends of that horse" instead of "I've heard legends of that person".

  • Lol this video is another wicked video! well done with the editing!! keep it up!!

    Pygmypuff20

    xx

  • no there not !

  • That's not how you deal with trolls.

Also, you didn't actually respond to it.

  • why th fck should i respond on others opion?

  • I'm assuming your original response was directed to golemosworld15, and I critiqued it thusly.

Getting into a "nuh-uh!" "uh-huh!" etc. argument with a troll? You just get worked up and the troll has fun. Much better to either ignore them or play with them, in my opinion.

  • srry...

  • horses are gay.

  • Aye, they generally be a jolly genus, the Equus.

  • thanks for entering^^

  • Great fit!!!, but, can you tell me what language is, i've been looking for translators for that language and i saw a curious page talking about goverment issues of another country and it was equal, the same language but i could't know which one was.

I'll be thankful if you can tell me. (It is not latin because i looked for that language and it was not)

  • It is Latin, actually.

The translation isn't entirely literal, though, is the thing: Nintendo apparently decided they'd add a little flavour to it. I don't speak a word of Latin (well, not beyond knowing certain roots), so I just used Nintendo's translation of the song.

  • Wow, nicely done! Nothing I would ever normally enjoy - but totally engaging. Congratulations!

  • I really love knowing I made someone happy despite whatever reason you have for not usually enjoying these types of vids. So, thank you very much, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

  • Normally I'm not a big fan of fan-stuff like this.

But this was actually pretty good and went with the lyrics really well. 5/5

  • I'm always honoured to get comments like this - I tell you, it's a real rush to impress folks not in fandom. So thank you very, very much! :D
