Early fIREHOSE songs we're minutemen songes. They were Dos songs adapted from the first Dos record Mike made with his then-wife Kira who played in Black Flag.
I have a live tape from a show they played where Ed hardly knew the song. That's punk rock to get back out there like Mike and George did.
I bought their first and second albums when they came out - quite tricky to do when you lived in Ireland and had to go all the way to London to buy US indie records like this.
Great band. What the hell did happen to Ed Crawford? I actually heard of fIREHOSE before I heard of the Minutemen, but being a pedant I decided to listen to the Minutemen first. Between them they made better music than almost anyone else at the time.
Astoundingly great band. Saw them in 1987 with X and Jerry Lee Lewis at the Universal Ampitheatre in Hollywood. I was blown away and saw them more than a dozen times. Incredible catalogue of music. Explore it and you won't be disappointed.
It's not on search for animal chin. It was on a santa cruz video segment with natas kaupas and it was in the background at a skate contest in the mid 80's...can't remember which one.
Jesus. It gives me goosebumps, when I think about firehose on the Streets of Fire skate vid. Has there ever been a better soundtrack to a timeless film. Art meets freedom, meets endless summers. Natas and Brave Captain. Amazing. Let me know if nostalgia gets any better
This song appears on Streets of Fire, a sk8 vid from the 80's. It appears on the Natas Kaupas bit. fIREHOSE and Natas Kaupas together, if it can get any better, I don't wanna know about it.
Geezer, you hit the nail on the head ! It reminds me of summer holidays, getting up at 7am, eating my cornflakes whilst watching Natas on loop, then skating all day.. I would kill for those days...
fIREHOSE was a piece of the puzzle that most modern music consumers miss. There are doubts that those that miss it will ever come around... Watt kills and has tons of great stuff... see you there...
Yep

I guess fIREHOSE would have come back by now if the dudes wanted it--but Mike Watt's solo albums are pure art

Incredible bass line in this one. Pair it with Chemical Wire and you have the very definition of "alternative rock." I prefer fIREHOSE to Minutemen.

Great song! Y
You can really see that early fIREHOSE songs are just Minutemen songs that have been adapted to the new band.
It is really sad to see Watt playing the same bass he used like 6 months before this with D Boon.
You can hear someone from the audience shouting "The Anchor" - A Minutemen song - at Watt, and he just smiles and ignores it.
This is really, subtley, extremely sad.
I wonder if Brave Captain was written as a Minutemen song. Good interview question.

There person in the crowd was saying "Anger", another Firehose song. D. Boone died long before this was filmed.

Poor old Ed Crawford, never gets any credit. Banyon felt bad for him and let him play backup guitar for a while. What's he up to now?

Watt's tune-up alone is worth the price of admission. Watt and George have to be the most underrated rhythm section around.
