  • Hoot represents the inner strength that they cultivated and groomed. Everytime I see that clip I smile. " It's about the

    guy next to you"

  • this song is so emo. i remember it from when i was in high school, hahaha.

  • My father met hoot a few years ago, he is over in afghanistan fighting now

  • Hoot can be the most undisceplined of Delta...... but he is a great warrior. And he speaks for every soldier in the field. It's not about war...... it's about the men next to you.

  • @CamoShield How so. Acording to who ever the Ranger leader was all of Delta was undiscaplined. Just because he doesnt use his weapons safety doesnt mean he's unsafe. Bob Howard the most highly decorated US soldier in history ounce grabbed an M16 off a Sentry and shot two Vietcong off a motorbike after they ambushed them and threw a grenade. I'd rather not have the safety to deal with. I didnt notice anything else undiciplined.

  • @chrisknife1 Undisceplined was a little harsh, yes. You got a big point....... Sorry everyone

  • @CamoShield Correction: He is not undisciplined. sorry

  • Hoot never existed .....it s a mix of defferents soldiers who lived that day in Mog

  • @TheLio666 are you sure mate? there was a delta sergeant named norm hooten who was present during the battle, ie. hoot?

  • Comment removed

  • @TheLio666

Hoot was short for Hooten, refering to Sergeant Norm Hooten who was in the battle of Mog it also explains why they called him Hoot instead of Sergeant or Sergeant Hooten in the book if you read it.

  • @jayjason000 I didn t read the book .....I just listened what the "vets" said in the movie comment buddy....

  • @TheLio666 hoot is a real person, my father met him

  • @JRScott121 YEAH ....OF COURSE HE MET HIM

  • That IS a car-15.. The M4A1 wasn't even in use then. Nor was the M4. The M4 wasn't widely used until a few years ago. ( Infantrymen carried the M16A2 and M16A4 in Iraq and Afghanistan before the army-wide switch to the M4.) Now, only non-combat troops carry M16's, thogh some SDM's carry M4 lowers with M16A4 uppers.

  • @SlaughterOfSadr It's actuily a Colt XM727 Commando. Hoot used an M4 in the movie several times. CAR-15s werent used much after Nam. The M16A4 is still standered issue with the M4 being used by specialists.

  • @chrisknife1 Read the fucking book. He had a CAR-15.

  • @SlaughterOfSadr You learn your facts. A CAR-15 would be incredibly be hard to find even back then. The XM727 is similar but much more modern and could be easily mistaken. The XM727 and XM733s were much more common for Delta during this time period. In my SOG book it refers to the M1911A1s as .45 pistols. Appearently it refers to all Commandos as CAR-15s.

  • @chrisknife1 sorry, but the chrisknife1 guy is right, Hooten in fact had a CAR-15. Don't take this in a bad way, i thought that too untill i did a bit of research :)

  • @jayjason000 First of all his name wasnt hooten it was Norm Gibson. CAR-15 could easily refer to the XM177[used in Nam] or the XM727 which was much more modern and common during Gothic Serpent. By reasearch do you mean the book because I can promise you the book has errors. What did you mean by the chrisknife1 guy is right when your telling me Im wrong.

  • @chrisknife1 CAR-15 were hard to find, but Delta Force had the choice of rifles they wanted therefore if hoot wanted one he could have had one, but im not sure if he had one, but i know sgt. Howe (who was left out of the movie) had one

  • I only had to read a page of comments to be shocked. When I watched this video, listened to the song-I wept-thinking of all of our soldiers on the front lines-military, law enforcement, emergency workers, families and friends of those who put their lives on the line for us to have the freedoms we so enjoy- Thank you Red0014 for making this video tribute. I watch it to remember those we so quickly brush aside when they return home..."You know what I think?...Don't really matter what I think".....

  • @pema40 For reasons I won't explain here, thank you :)

  • lol looks like a gay love story init haha

  • why does the main characters look like fags? theyre supposed to be hard and fearless.

  • @sondre2409 eh, what are you talking about exactly?

  • Cool~ Hoot

  • "Someone get on that .50!!!"

guy in back " fuck that thats like asking to get killed"

hoot - "it's mine (jumps on the .50)

  • @CrashxoBandicoot nobody said any such thing. The delta guy jumped on it, and according to the reporter who wrote Blackhawk down, the delta guy commenced to inflicting SCUNION on the africans. I have read(can't say personally how true it is) that Delta passes on lots of excellent soldiers because they only take the very best marksmen in the Army. Then they try to turn them into proficient gunners, which requires other skills in addition to marksmanship .

  • hoot has a nice gun

  • why dose hoots flashlight on the bottom of his gun flash everytime he fires the gun???

  • @stoneadam10 he has a pressure switch which turns it on when he exurts pressure on the switch and if you rclose enough and have a good enough light then it temporarily blinds them like looking into the sun

  • @tangokilla11 smart, thanks

  • Comment removed

  • Hoot is like a second father to Eversman, teaching him the psychology of war and how to be a proper team leader with out yelling at him like a drill Sergeant. I'd love to fight right by his side!

  • From what I've seen, Hoot was based on Norman "Hoot" Hooten... I could be wrong but that's just what I found out.

  • @TheNavysealsrock yeah. alot of names were changed from the book to the movie

  • @TheNavysealsrock yeah but i dont think norm was actualy there he was a combination of paul howe and some other delta operator

  • @synystervancobain no hoot was there, he was mentioned in the book multiple times, and was commanded his own squad during the battle

  • @JRScott121 ive read the book several times. and paul howe was who i thought they based the character off of...but im always open to hear that im wrong

  • @synystervancobain Paul howe was in the battle of mogadishu as well, but i believe they made up a character named sanderson for him, but i know for a fact hoot was a real soldier in the battle

  • @JRScott121 alright man its always good to see all these delta fan though

  • @JRScott121 Hoot is fake, I just got this movie on blue ray, and the writer said based on how the story was told in the book, it would be to long to include everybody. Hoot in the film is based on 3 or for different Delta operators.

  • @chucktay187 many of the parts hoot played in this movie were based off other delta operators, but there was a sgt. Norman "hoot" Hooten who was part of the battle of mogadishu, ive read the book multiple times, and it refers to him dozens of times, and there is even a map in the book that shows a building labeled sgt. Hooten's squad, so iunderstand where you are coming from, because hoot was never in a humvee until he was extracted, but hoot was there

  • 2:49... smile, Delta is about to kill you. Delta- super awesome protector of America.

  • I hate this whiny song being associated with a person I once thought arrogant. Aint going to rate it up or down. Simple kind of men.

  • This is easily one of the best BHD music video I've ever seen.

  • @XtremeOhioWorx19 You were there?

  • I like that Austraillian actor. He's very talented.

  • hoot was bad ass lol

  • this is my safety sir...

  • @Keith459001 Even if he was Delta he would get the beatdown saying that to a Captain.

  • @OvertheHills821 actually i have heard that it did happen..his character is a combination of a few soldiers and one of them did it..but honestly cant know for sure..

  • @Red0014 actually, his "character" is based off of Norman "Hoot" Hooten.

  • @StrengthFromAbove83 not exactly he is based on several soldiers but mainly on John "Mace" Macejunas who was an amazing soldier and one of the very best of delta you can read about him a little bit in the book and that is a fact according to the book ,behind the scenes comments, the actors etc.check p on him a very interesting person shame not to much info.

  • love him!

  • if you guys have any questions about those weapons used in the movie, just go to imfdb

  • hoot and eversman were the best characters in my opinion

  • Hoot was my fav in this movie. lolz

  • "Hey man, there's a line!"

    Hoot: "I know"

"Well this isn't the back of it"

    Hoot: "Yeah, I know!"

    --

Hoot: "You know what i think?.. Don't really matter what i think"

  • @skillguitar Delta's just that badass..they answer to no one but the Delta commanders. They dont do missions that someone else devises. They get a say in the missions they do.

  • I'm sorry but you need to replace this song with the team america theme song, it would make the video THAT much more epic.

  • Been looking for this song for quite a while, now the best movie ever made told me, thanks :)

  • I like his M4. looks like it's got a A2 upper with an M4 length barrel and desert stock and handguard. I love it.

  • @zSNIP3DOWNz Actually they we're using CAR 15's

  • @skillguitar not really. ever heard of a thing called an M4A2? It's got an A2 upper with all the other M4 features. I pretty sure they would've used that over the CAR 15. plus, the CAR had a HUGE flash hider.

  • @zSNIP3DOWNz Maybe they've used M4A2's in the movie, but i'm pretty sure they we're using CAR15's in 1993

  • @skillguitar yes, there was no m4 at the time

  • @zSNIP3DOWNz Read the book, they were CAR-15's.

  • @roguelead72 If I remember right, they had CAR uppers and AR15 lowers.

  • @roguelead72 not car15 - m4a1

  • Comment removed

  • @aaron654lo M4A1s weren't around back then, they would have been using CAR-15s, M733s, or M727s

  • @zSNIP3DOWNz afterCar15 modified to m4a1

  • @aaron654lo or a CAR 15 UPPER AND AN AR LOWER. Do you understand how the M-family AR platform works?

  • @PonyGaming1 i only know m4a1 m16 m16a3 m60 ak47 aks74u akm74 mp5 uzi p90

  • @aaron654lo yes, but do you understand how they strip down?

  • @aaron654lo what about m16a4

  • The level of dedication and skill they have is unreal.

Thank god they're on our side.

  • Who is hoot based off? i heard he later served in Afghanistan but im sure his character is based on someone.

  • what s that beast running at 3:09

  • @andrew9592 It are boars.

  • This guys got a major boner for Eric Bana as Hoot. Nice music queer

  • hoot always seemed to make the best calls. a larger than life character of the very best

  • The Reason guys like that stay involved in the spec op and tactical world is simple its because of the guys .. Men that have been there with you or in the same types of stressful situations get you .. where as nobody else will

  • I love his little badass speach. "You know what i think, it dont really matter what i think cus when that first bullet goes past your head. Politics and that shit goes right out the window.

  • hoot is really heroic,...

  • that's not Hoot. he is Hulk!

  • total badass!

  • bana is soooo sexy!

  • those bastard copyright pricks stole the audio

  • 7th special forces hooah

  • usmc stands for uncle sams misguided children

  • guys hoot is based on a guy named norm hooten a real delta operator who served in that battle cause in the movies commentary ridley scoot said that and i read it up

  • The character Hoot was based on multiple Delta guys. Not one man. Watch the documentary in the three-disc set.

  • yea i know him to. i played airsoft with him one day.

  • in your dreams 10 year old :P

he is a delta operator not your daddy

  • lol im 16 and i know who he is.

you dont have to believe me but i know him so shut the fuck up and go suck a dick

  • i know the real man

  • no you don't..

  • fucker dont tell who i dont know and do know.

  • He's not a real person..

  • yes he is. if u assholes knew ur history or read the new afterward by mark bowden u would know his character is comprised of several people. just one of those persons happens to be Master Sergeant Rick Mueller. he is former delta and in the beginning, whjen hes on the bike, yea he did that. so i'd like to see u tell him to his face that he didn't fight for ur right to say stupid ass comments like that. o yea btw, i'm a 1stLt in the Marines. so u should shut ur face!!!!

  • wow, you're a moron. a complete one at that. i can't stand people like you who lie about being in the military when i'm currently serving. you're just a fourteen year old kid who plays too many war games on your playstation.

  • mother fucker dont tell me what i am. i AM in the Marines. i HAVE earned my commission. i HAVE the the right to wear the eagle globe and anchor on my collar. ten bucks says ur lying because only u would know about that. u wouldnt know about REAL freedom would you?

  • okay retard.

  • i'd like to see u come in my platoon with that attitude?

  • of course not. Delta Force is secret if you've seen "the true story of black hawk down" the army doesn't even acknowledge it's existence. also The only real delta characters in the movie are the ones who died. but they also needed more delts people, so they made up characters

  • Yes, the Deltas who survived the raid and are featured in the movie had their names changed, or were simply referred to by their nicknames.

  • hoot is based on a real person named Norm "Hoot" Hooten, the feller later served in afghanistan in 2001,but the name in the movie is norm "hoot" gibson, spec.ops operatives tend to go wit fake names..

  • That's not really accurate. Paul Howe had his real name used in the book, and a character(albeit with a different name,) in the movie. Combat Applications Group has been openly discussed during the Senate hearings around Waco.

  • well no one but him and his family and friends know his actual name, this is because he is delta and delta has to keep its soldiers a secret, so thier names are never given, they are rarly in uniform, and they can grow out their hair longer than the normal soldier

  • I've met, trained with, and eaten dinner with Paul Howe at his personal range in Nacogdoches Texas. It's his real name. Larry Vickers goes by his real name too.

And thanks for the generic spy novel/internet commando description of "Delta Force."

  • lucky man or woman you are, I would love to shake this man's hand, is he really what the movie makes him out to be?

  • Paul is one of the most understated, nonthreatening(although built like a refrigerator,) and caring individuals I've ever met. With that said, to quote a federal agent that took a class there with me, "If I ever had to serve a warrant on Paul, I'd save everybody the trouble and go ahead and shoot myself in the face."

He's a real American hero, and you too can go meet him if you sign up for a class. He does have zero tolerance for bullshit, so show up squared away and ready to learn.

  • @bighitter42 well Im screwed because I probaly mess with some people during his class, plus what class does he teach?

  • His civilian classes include different levels of tactical pistol and carbine. He's mentioned doing a home defense course as well, that would include clearing your own home and gunshot medicine.

  • Hey is Vickers still doing 1911's? I bought a custom springfield from him several years back. Awesome armorer. Great group of guys also.

  • Larry is no longer building 1911's. He is doing 1911 classes where you show up with an unfitted frame, slide, and parts and build your own over the course of a week under his eye and tutelage. It's an expensive course though.

  • his real name is actuly Norman Hooten just that they changed it to hoot gibson.

  • Hoot was my favorite to mainly because I met the real hoot gibson once nice guy dosn't look like this but kind of sound like him. Also he mainly only talk about afgahnistan.

  • no, you didn't, so stop wiki-ing shiet :P

  • BTW what is the name of the song?

  • saliva -rest in pieces

  • you guys shouldnt fight over a dumb thing like this , while we all know that none of our soldiers deserved to die over there , it doesnt matter if hes real or not but what does matter is that USA rules and kicks any comiee ass that we face uppon

  • what is the song?

  • Love Hoot

From Colombia one fans i love

    Lorna

  • If you read the book, Hoot was there.

  • thumbs up good video. thumbs down shite music.

  • Hooten was a real dude. Sanderson in the movie wasn't, and was based off Paul Howe.

  • I was under the impression that Hoot was NOT a real person, but a chatacter made up by the writers, based on three or four different soldiers.

  • No, I read Black Hawk down a story of modern war by Mark Bowden, (the book that inspired the film) and it turns out he was ia real person. The whole index finger deal "Well this is my safety" was true as well. A major mistake though is that SFC Norm Hooten was tanned out had blonde hair and the acter Eric bana did not.

  • "This is my safety" is taken completely out of context in the movie.

Per Paul Howe, Delta made the decision to carry their weapons on base with an empty chamber, hammer down, and with a loaded magazine inserted. Mechanically in that condition the safety cannot be engaged.

They chose to carry this way because of a stupid rule mandating that all weapons must be unloaded on base, meanwhile the mess hall was one piece of sheet metal away from the street and presumably very vulnerable to attack.

  • everything you said is absolutely true, in fact pretty clever on delta's part.. I remember reading Howe's uncertainty of their base security/protection.. however..(not to sound like some book whore) ..in the book, it says Norm Hooten showed up Steele right in front of his men with the whole index finger thing..and directors saw that for holly wood purposes would show the tension between rangers/delta.. ..anyways that's pretty cool you actually talked with Howe. did you take some CSAT course?

  • I don't doubt that he showed up the Cpt., but I do believe that it was only because they were outraged about the entire situation. It did illustrate the tension that existed, but it makes Delta look like they were cowboys rather than having proper mindset. Much like clearing barrels in Iraq/Afghanistan, these "safety" procedures often create more dangers than they solve.

I've been to CSAT several times. Paul is a true gentleman, a great teacher, and the baddest dude I've ever met.

  • thats really cool..but yea I have heard remarkable things about him. Did he ever say when he enlisted, when he made it into the world of special operations, or when he got out of the military?

  • He left the military in 2000. I didn't ask when he enlisted, nor do I know when he entered SF(though I've heard elsewhere that it was in the mid 80's.)

  • damn so could have very well been in Panama, Iraq, Somalia, and Bosnia.. and I'd bet elsewhere too. I've read one of his books and I think he hints at somewhere in South/Central America. And not once was he ever wounded in any way?.. what a tough son of a bitch. any distinct stories you remember?

  • I'm not sure what kind of opsec he's still under, but no not too many stories unless it applied directly to what we were learning. Larry Vickers is the same way in that he'll answer questions about his service but doesn't run his mouth.

He was never awarded the purple heart, so no I don't believe he was ever wounded.

  • you've been to one on Vicker's classes too?..damn. Only one I can think of thats left is Viking Tactics..then you'd have met 3 former delta guys

  • Never done anything with Kyle Lamb...bought his book though.

  • same here. very informative book..exchanged emails with the guy too but thats it.

  • one last thing that im curious about..why does it seem that a lot of these former high-speed guys seem to be able to deal with post-combat stress very effectively...its like they just go about

their business as if nothing happened..I've noticed alot of

former special operations are like that. I would think they would want to get away from all this tactical shit, but instead they teach classes. Any explaination for this?

  • Hard training makes for easy combat. Most cases of PTSD that I've seen were a direct result of someone not being prepared for what the realities of going to war are. Couple that with a desire to pass on knowledge that will save American lives, and the fact that most of the guys at that level were gun guys to begin with, it's no wonder that they enter the training realm.

  • yea thats what I thought..alright thanks.

  • pretty sure it was in 1989 he joined SF

  • Comment removed

  • It took it out of context. The reality was that they weren't carrying off safe because they were cocky as the movie portrayed.

And who said anything about having the bolt locked back? I said empty chamber, hammer down. If for whatever reason you misinterpreted "empty chamber" for "bolt locked back," I'd like to know how you're dropping the hammer when it can't move forward at all due to the carrier.

Maybe you should read posts twice before posting your own comment.

  • You might be thinking of Sanderson who was made up of several people.

  • hooten was inspired by three operators as was sanderson

  • He may have been inspired by several people, however there WAS a soldier during this battle with the last name "Hooten". This guy WAS in Delta, and was obviously based off him the most. Now I'm not sure if the character in the film was supposed to be him(probably without saying it), but his nickname was "Hoot", and that is pretty close to Hooten.

  • Grimes was also not real in the movie, he in turn, was based off the real-life soldier John Stebbins who, if you do a little research was Court-marshaled and convicted of raping his 6-year-old daughter in 2000.

  • Hoot was mainly based on Sgt John Macejunas (not sure of spelling right now) but if you google it you will find the same... the character in BHD was not totally based on Macejunas, but primarily with some influence from others....I'm sure Hooten was one of those others

  • You're right about Macejunas. In the movie Hoot raids the target building and rides out on Pilla's convoy just to come back to Durant's crash on foot, when Mace in real life starts on the Humvee column, goes out on Pilla's convoy, proceedes to Durant's crash on foot, and later that week comes back disguised as a reporter to find the bodies of Gary Gordon, Randy Shughart, and the crew of Super Six 4.

  • Hoot is not fictional. he wasnt based off anyone

  • Think what you want... everyone is entitled to an opinion... fact of the matter is...the character in the movie was based on the actions of Macejunas... The movie was "based" on actual events, not a documentary.

  • Norm "Hoot" Hooten is a former Delta operator who served in Somalia in 1993. In the 2001 film Black Hawk Down, he was portrayed by Eric Bana as Norm "Hoot" Gibson. He was a member of the Delta squadron that was deployed to Somalia as part of Task Force Ranger in August 1993.

He also fought in Afghanistan in 2001 and currently is a hand-to-hand combat instructor for SAIC. Do a little research next time.

  • I did a little research and you should suck my dick fag.

  • Check out what the good ole internetz said about it before the movie came out:

Actors who trained at Fort Bragg included Bill Fichtner, who will take the part of Master Sgt. Paul Howe; Eric Bana who will play Master Sgt. John "Mace" Macejunas; and Nikolaj Waldau, who will portray Sgt. 1st Class Gary Gordon.

  • Here's the real account about him:

Sgt. First Class John Macejunas was getting ready to go back out. The blond D-boy had gone out into the fight three or four times the day and night before. When the rescue convoy couldn't reach Durant's crash site, Macejunas had led a small squad to the site on foot, scouring the area for his friends.

  • hey man i didnt want to start a fuckin fight over it. im just saying Hoot Hooten is based off Hoot Gibson. maybe eric banas character was a blend of gibsons personality and macejunas actions. but you had to go be a douche and get all personal

  • Actually you started this by saying he isn't fictional and wasn't based on anyone...then your smartass comment about do a little research next time....so who "had to go be a douche"?

Although I am sorry...it's not your fault you have a sub 80s IQ...

Douche....that's funny. If you don't want it to get personal, don't make it personal with smartass comments.

  • anyone know what that thing on the bottom of his m4's hand rail is? flashlight, laser?

  • most likely a flashlight.

  • flashlight

  • awesome actor
