  • are you australian ?

  • Yummy. Its like a fried bread pudding!

  • It looks interesting and I'm anxious to try it. Could I use unsalted butter instead of oil?

  • @ingridoctavia

I would rather use oil myself.

I think I would only consider using thin layer butter in the pan if I was using sliced bread. I think too much butter would make it really un-healthy.

Stick to oil if you can :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • I HAVENT GOT EGG OR CINNAMON BUT I AM GONNA TRY IT ANYWAYS FINGER CROSS IT TURN OUT OK

  • @funkyfavour

If you do not use the egg or cinnamon then you may as well not use the egg. That way you will end up with fried bread. Fried bread is great with a cooked breakfast :)

    OriginanakedChef

  • do u have to dip it in cinnamon

  • @funkyfavour

You don't have to use cinnamon. You can just use the sugar.

    OriginalNakedChef

  • i used white bread....it riped....i tried again.....it riped....i suck at cooking....i can only make eggs -_-....

  • @Alphabobman2

Cooking is often trial and error.

Try it again with some of the French stick of bread like I did in my video you should then have more success :)

    Don't give up!

Let me know how you get on next time :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • @OriginalNakedChef oh yea and im 10 :P lol

  • Oh, sorry, you said Christmas treats, or something like that. Sweet stuff twinkling in your mouth. Well, go on then, mate ;-)

  • Ah... Australian French Toast :-) Never tried it with italian bread.... I recommend that you drop the sweet stuff and dip them in salsa or any variety of other dips and spreads. Garlic salt could be thrown in the egg wash. One could go nuts with this type of base platform. There are many different directions to explore. This belongs in a "gourmet leftover book" in the "bread" section... Anybody want to finance my new book?.

  • Do you need a certain kind of bread, like the one he's using?

  • @Strawbearie2000

This bread works well but you could use other bread instead.

    OriginalNakedChef

  • I prefer adding salt instead of sugar

  • @epoppinbazz

I sometimes make my egg bread with salt.

    OriginalNakedChef

  • ummm... isn't this just french toast?

  • @kurtismg

Yes very similar to French toast. My recipe was based on the spanish recipe :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • you sound like danny dyer!

  • @MementoFX

I know that my voice has been compared to alot of people but Danny Dyers a new one on me!

    OriginalNakedChef

  • In fact this recipe is a very very traditional Spanish Easter recipe.

  • @marmalgar

I didn’t know that this was a traditional Easter recipe in Spain

    I know Churros is :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • Churros are very common at any moment in the year, and they are delicious dunking in Spanish hot chocolate... mmm

  • And in Spain are called "torrijas"

  • @marmalgar

    Thanks for that!

I will add that to my tags.

    feliz navidad

    OriginalnakedChef

  • Hell yes!

  • @barronredneck

    Good luck!

    Happy Christmas :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • I think I'll use this as bait to trap Santa,Super.

  • @barronredneck

Do you think he will go for it?

    Good luck!

    OriginalNakedChef

  • Great =)

In french "Pain perdu" translate "Lost Bread"

We use this recipe with old bread that we eat with sugar , nutella our jam!

But we bake it in butter (normal in france) , and put some milk in the eggs

    Typicall french breakfast!!!

  • @gaellefaut

Thank you for sharing that, I do appreciate all the comments.

When I go to france next I must make sure I try your breakfast :)

    OriginalnakedChef

  • this looks really good. im gonna try it! :D

  • @emmarizza24

I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • looks good but can you use a sugar substuit I use splenda because Im a dibitic,,,but how much cinamon do you use and how much sugar,,, or splenda,,

  • @Dolphindream15

I have never tried a sugar substitute for this recipe but it should work fine.

Just sprinkle a bit of splenda and cinnamon on a plate and taste it to make sure there is enough cinnamon.

The quantity does not really important; you want just enough to use up the bread. If you run out, add some more :)

    OriginalnakedChef

  • Oups u just used a kfc reference! "Finger Lickin Good". Now they have to pay u for every view...

  • @SlimCez

Thats sounds good to me :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • I like your no nonsense style of straightforward cooking! Well done mate! And this is a great way to use stale bread for a new version of french toast!

  • @GoranMak

    Nice one!

Thanks for your comms and they are very much appreciated :)

You are right, it's a great way to use up old bread!

    Thanks again OriginalNakedChef

  • can i use machine oil?

  • @vandanum

No don't use machine oil. Use cooking oil!

    OriginalNakedChef

  • I always used to shallow fry it... Deepfrying is really not my thing.

  • @fartb0i

I always hope that viewers will use my video to get ideas and make it their own. Nothing wrong with shallow frying :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • I ate the monitor.

  • @PeachyGoneMad

    Great comment!

The only problem is now, you will need to buy another monitor to watch some more of my vids :)

    OriginalnakedChef

  • Here in Galicia, Spain we heat up the milk first then add a cinnamon stick and keep heating gently. Pour the milk over the cuts of bread. Leave to stand overnight. Cook in Olive Oil. Coat with the sugar cinnamon mix and serve warm. They are not nice cold.

In years gone by the Galicians also poured wine over them for a real hearty breakfast.

    The are called Torrijas.

  • @Ribeirasacra

Sorry for the slow reply. I didnt see your comms.

Thanks for sharing your tips and maybe next time I decide to try the recipe I might give some of your ideas ago.

    Thanks again OriginalNakedChef :)

  • Is he trying to get fat? That is wayyyyy~ to much oil, I mean sure it would taste great but you'll probably gain another few pounds of rolls on your tummy

  • @minatahyuga

It's like all things in life. Everything in moderation!

    OriginalNakedChef

  • @minatahyuga he donnel o rosie will you stop giving us health tips, their not very convincing

  • Hi there..is the bread u used at the beginning a baguette? Could u use bread from shops like kingsmill etc? What other bread can u use?

I am a cooking noob..but am dyingg to try this out...!!!

  • @iStylix

The bread I used was a baguette. I think you could use most bread for this recipe, have a look in your cupboards. I think that the baguettes work really well though.

Good luck with the dish and hopefully you enjoy :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • @OriginalNakedChef Thanks for replying back .. deffo gna try sOOn!!! ;)

  • @jellydee123

Thanks for the comms and I hope you enjoy!

    OriginalNakedChef

  • for non-stick pan always use plasticor wooden stuff to avoid scratch the non stick coating..

  • @WavyMinds

    Thats a very good tip!

    OriginalNakedChef

  • Hey chef, I want to ask you, why when i cook the bread...it still has the eggy taste in it..so its kinda savory instead of sweet.. yes i already cover the bread in sugar and cinnamon... Thanks Chef always loves your recipe

  • @sadrakhm

I think you will always have an eggy taste as that is the coating underneath the sweet flavours. Make sure you have soaked up plenty of milk in the bread first.

Also bread usually does contain some salt, this is possibly the savoury flavour.

    OriginalNakedChef

  • @sadrakhm why dont u add a bit of vanilla that shud remove the smell and taste

  • This looks so good and I'm SO HUNGRY! gosh why did I watch this keep up the good work!

  • @waluigidetective

Thanks for the comment and keep on watching :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • looks yummy. have you tried parmesan cheese for a savoury alternative. we call it cheese bread here, very yummy at a local restaurant here. i also do it with a whole egged cooked inthe centre of a slice of bread that you cut out a circle first. i just dip in milk didnt thin to use egg mix as well. interesting.thanks for sharing your recipe. i hope to check out more of your recipes. ss08

  • @sewsweet08

Thanks for your suggestions. Its always nice to hear other alternatives and a savoury version is good!

I like your idea sounds good. Thanks for sharing that with us :)

  • I've tried several of your recipies and I just wanted you to know that thanks to you, my redneck friends LOVE English cooking now. greetings and thanks from Arkansas!!

  • @hashashin821

Well done!. It's nie to hear your friends are on board :)

    Good job chef!

    OriginalNakedChef

  • My parents are from England and when I was little they use to do the "egg bread" but instead of cinnamon & sugar they would spread ketchup on top of the egg bread and it was really really good!

  • @Hemolymph

The tomato sauce on the egg bread is probably quite nice. A good alternative to the sweet version.

    OriginalNakedChef

  • Please stop using false tags to get your video more views as it is against YouTube rules.

  • Bloody blinkin' marvellous! Love this recipe and you make it look so simple. I should video reply my attempt for your for comedy value, strange thing was... it still tasted damn fine!

  • @dwynnell

It's a great dish and very forgiving. You have done a great job!

Don't forget it's probably the first time you have made it.

Its a shame you didnt video as it could be a classic vid:)

The main thing is, it tasted good!

    OriginalnakedChef

  • @OriginalNakedChef God bless you mate. It's a really belly settler too, can heartily recommend it as a "morning after" munch. I don't think we'd suffer my vid response - way too much swearing and cursing! :)

    Keep them coming ace!

Your dedicated (though less than sober) kitchen disciple.

  • @dwynnell

    Nice one!

Thanks for the comms they are really appreciated :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • That looks yummy it's just like the American style French toast which is with cinnamon and sugar or powdered sugar and maple syrup and it would taste great with golden syrup mmmmm

  • @Englishteapot

    Hi Englishteapot,

it sounds like you like your American style french toast with maple or golden syrup :)

Thanks for dropping in and sharing that with us :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • @OriginalNakedChef Yes I do like my American style french toast with maple syrup or golden syrup :)

Have you ever tried it with golden syrup or maple syrup you should it is yummy. Your welcome I'm glad I can drop in to share that with everyone :)

  • @Englishteapot

I must admit I have never tried the syrups with the French toast American style, I don’t normally have sweet food for breakfast but maybe I am missing out!

I will make sure I try it at some stage.

    OriginalNakedChef :)

  • @OriginalNakedChef Yes, you should definately try the maple syrup or golden syrup with the American style french toast and that's ok that you normally don't have sweet food for breakfast it is really nice and tell me what you think if you decide to try that :)

  • Spanish torrijas at its best. In Spain we usually make them on Easter.

  • @Berilac

I first tried these torrijas in Spain, the other recipe I would like to do at some stage is the churos, another spanish favourte :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • @OriginalNakedChef They are pretty simple to make, but can't wait to see the recipe of Chocolate con Churros a la Oliver :)

  • good quick food :) dont fancy it though

  • @hazging

Hi Hazging. I guess I can't win them all :(

Thanks for popping in though :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • looks good. similar to french toast. is there a savory way to do this recipe? thanks again.

  • @kumquatsta

If you want a savoury a version of this dish, the simplest form is with just salt and pepper into the egg, disregard the cinnamon and sugar. I would then call that egg bread! Simple but nice

If I get chance I might make a savoury egg bread vid as its a simple one for breakfast/snack

If you want to try other savoury variations, you could experiment and add some cheeses or finely chopped ham or maybe small pieces of crispy bacon. Add any of those to the egg mixture.

  • @OriginalNakedChef Vote Up !

  • Hello, greetings from Mexico!!

A way that I like to cook this better is, instead of soaking the bread in plain milk, to boil the milk with cinnamon sticks, and soak the bread with that milk and it will give a much better cinnamon taste to the bread itself and not only the sugar-cinnamon outside. Anyway, really good for snacks! Keep it up!

  • @detlefmaya21

I like the way you suggest too. I chose this way as it is nice and quick.

With the way you are suggesting you can also add some lemon peel to the milk and cinnamon when you boil.

The important things is that both ways taste good :)

    OriginalNakedChef

  • Hello Chef, this looks really yummy. I was wondering if you had any recipes with eggplant, maybe a Parm or anything really. Thanks'-)

  • @MACnRose

    Hi MACnRose,

I did make a Moussaka video that uses eggplant as one of the main ingridients. Its similar to lasagna except uses eggplant to seperate layers instead of pasta sheets.

    How does that sound?

    OriginalNakedChef

  • @OriginalNakedChef I loved your Moussaka Recipe. It was so delicious! Thank you so much for all the fantastic recipes. You are an excellent chef!
