If you read Zimbardos book "The Lucifer Effect" zimbardo tells his prison guard students that they must maintain their authority at all costs. Of course these students were subjects of their teacher zimbardo and would obvioulsy have not have wished to get into his bad books by ruining the "experiment".To say they turned "evil" for no reason is simply not a correct deduction. Zimbardo was the authority and he ordered them to be evil.

The trouble is...brainwashing works...conditioning works. They use it in the Army. Physical training is not for physical exercise it is to condition you like an animal. Punishment and avoidance of punishment is the result. No one in their right minds would go out and kill someone they have no reason to. IMHO, most 'religions' are just massacred versions of a beautiful and ancient religion that dealt more with spirituality than dogma/power/control/lies/pain/­suffering. Once you break through the veil, religion is very easily taken apart, bit by bit.

If you have been able to find spirituality in religion, then good, dump the religion and continue. If not, dump religion anyway.
