  • I work with people who have acquired brain injuries, I'm constantly getting told that they will never recover. Now I have some evidence for when I tell people to take their negativity and fuck off. Love you Vladdy. Such a huge inspiration for me when I started playing D.

  • Goosebumps and tears at 3:35...

  • Avalanche fan here, and i cried.

  • And now I'm all choked up...

  • That limo was still around until about a year and a half ago. In a warehouse on the near eastside of Detroit. It's gone now though. It still had the blood in it.

  • #16 needs to be hanging from the rafters at Joe Louis

  • In Vladdy we trust. I miss him so much. If he was still playing and with the Wings him and Lidstrom would make one Hell of a blue line

  • Great to see him at rock concerts I seen him and his wife were at the Scorpions concert at dte music theatre in 2010

  • As I long time Leaf fan, and old hockey arch nemesis of the Wings, I gotta tip my hat to the entire Wings organization. Just pure class through and through.....

  • I remember that....

  • hes a cheater in uno

  • Oh, and he was PLUS 60 in 1995-96. No player has had a high +/- rating since then, and the most recent to top it was Wayne Gretzky in 1986-87. Goes to show what a presence he was on the Wings' blue line.

  • Had it not been for the accident, I think he probably would have been a Hockey Hall of Famer. He was the best defensive defenseman in the league in 1996 and 1997, and the way he shut down Lindros in the finals has to go down as one the best checking jobs of all time. Even with Philly's brutal goaltending, I don't think the Wings would have won without him, Philly shrank from being the most physical team in the league to trying to tiptoe around Konstantinov without being destroyed.

  • If there could be one event that I could change in history it would be Vladdy's accident...

  • thumbs up if thus touched youe heart!!

  • спасибо!!!!! мы вместе!!!!! Россия и Канада

  • What an amazing player. Vladi was my favorite D-man at the time, just watching him on the ice was mildly frightening. He had that look - not even mad or aggressive, just the flat, cold eyes of a predator bearing down on his prey.

Thanks for everything, Vladi. Keep on fighting. We haven't forgotten.

  • I cried when i saw the news on TV as a kid. He was my favorite defenseman on the Wings and not being able to see his career flourish was highway robbery. I still hope to this day Gnida rots in hell.

  • I'm a Blues fan, but I just feel for Konstantinov and his family. Nobody deserves that. It's just a shame, seeing this happen to someone in the prime of their life.

I'll be wishing them all the best.

  • This video literally brought a tear to my eye. I grew up in Detroit and I was 4 when the accident happened. My parents were watching the news and told me what happened I remember not being able to fall asleep that night hoping for all the crash victims to be safe. It is great to see this video and the progress Vlady has made. Keep it up Vlady Detroit still loves you!!!!!

  • I may hate the Red Wings, but Vladimir Konstantinov is a true champ and possibly one of the greatest enforcers of all time. Imagine what a career he might have had. This guy's story just makes me want to cry.

  • Gotta get his number in the Joe's rafters..

  • @aeilenstine it's unofficially retired as far as I know.

  • Vladi is the real deal

  • Fucking beautiful.

  • @YawnGod Fuckin A right man...on a normal day I hate the wings, but if this doesn't put tears in your eyes, you're not human

  • This video made me cry.....A man who never gives up....The Red Wings organization that exceeds in class far beyond of any major hockey organizations....I will always be your fan Vladi.

  • 1997 Stanley Cup finals.......i think it was Game 3. Some Flyers player came across center ice with his head down. It did not end well lol

  • Vladi was one of the dirtiest players in NHL.

  • @cfb30 Your and idiot.Just because the guy hits hard doesnt mean he's a dirty player.Vladdy was one of the greatest open-ice hitters ever!

  • @cfb30 stupid fuck... dont talk if u dont know anything! he was the best hitter in nhl

  • did not expect to cry when i clicked on this

  • @NewCoulddousin neither did i

  • Ignore that tool talking crap, it's sad that sickos like that live on this planet. I won't give him the satisfaction by replying to him.

  • that was genuinley moving to see such a powerhouse broken im glad hes on the mend though

  • 4 people are Eric Lindros on 4 vandal acounts.

  • I don't know what is more unbelievable Konstantinov's number 16 not retired at the Joe or ESPN COVERING HOCKEY!!!!

  • Thumbs up for Vladdy

  • How could you NOT root against him????

  • vladdie is one of the most phyiscal players to ever play hockey

  • 4 people don't have what it takes to believe.

  • Sabres fan here but those 90's Red Wings teams are up there with my favorite all-time teams to watch and root for. Konstantinov was just awesome to watch, a physical force but very talented.

  • his number needs to be next to yzerman howe lindsey sawchuck an the rest of the greats.

  • Vlad The Impaler's number should be retired! He was an AMAZING player and who knows how different the Wings' history would have been if he kept on playing

  • I hate the Wings, but this video shows one of the reasons the Wings as an Organization are one of the classiest in the league.

  • @toomanyrifts then why do u hate them?

  • Very sad

  • Hearing his wife's story made me want to cry... not something that has happened in a long while...

  • Whoever doesn't like this is HEARTLESS. The guy survived a fatal car accident and is still trying to work his way back to recovery and you have the audacity to dislike his story, smh, learn some compassion

  • I have never liked the red wings.. but they had the best Russians to play the game. Konstantinov, larionov, fedorov they were all so sick.. and larionov was like already 40

  • @msuperboy you forgot Pavel Datsyuk.

  • As a wings fan, every time I see something about Vladdy I tear up.

  • the vladiator and super mario are the two best nicknames in hockey history.

  • @nourali2 you know how peple say that commiting suicide is not the answer? well for you, it is, so please, DIE

  • @nourali2 desperate troll is desperate

  • @nourali2 What are you?A fucking terrorist?

  • @nourali2 Your are a cunt for wishing horrible things on good people and great players just because they play for don't you support. Anyway this is video for the dedication for great a player not which is the best or worst team. you should be shamed of yourself.

  • @TheCrazyJesus You're just mad because your shitty red wings are gonna get eliminated by the Shorks. Face it, moron, only 5 teams in the history of sports have come back from a 3-0 deficit, and it happened once last year, so law of averages says your shitty Red Wing awful team isn't gonna do it this year. Can't wait to see the Shorks win game 7 and put the Red Wing SPICS in their place! Fuck Detroit, fuck that retarded shithole! And I swear to god I will dance on the streets if Lidstrom dies IRL

  • @nourali2 tard learn to spell (it's Sharks, not Shorks). Also you have got a problem for hoping people to die just because they play for a team you don't like. As well is there really any need for racism. Oh by the way I support the Devils (and yeah we didn't make the playoffs) but I watched this video for an amazing story that happened in hockey.

  • @nourali2 bro? for real? get a life.

  • @nourali2 really, our shitty red wings team, yeah were so shitty that we have the 3rd most stanley cups in the nhl, yes, what a bad team

  • @TheAlbanianRebel i thought it was most?

  • @WeAreOneNexus obviously you dont watch hockey, so dont talk shit

  • @TheAlbanianRebel i was not trying to btw i don't pay attention to the red wings i just assumed they had the most and how is it talking shit?

  • @TheAlbanianRebel i was not trying to btw i don't pay attention to the red wings i just assumed they had the most and how is it talking shit? oh and also i just looked it up as of 2011 the red wings do have the most you fucking idiot

  • @TheAlbanianRebel i was not trying to btw i don't pay attention to the red wings i just assumed they had the most and how is it talking shit? detriot has most in us but 3rd in nhl

  • @nourali2

too bad the Canucks are going to beat the"Shorks"

You deserve to go to hell for that comment, by the way

  • @nourali2 why did you even come to see this video? You just want to talk trash? Well let me see how many Stanley Cups have your team won? Let me see 0? The Wings have won 11

  • @nourali2 Wow dude... that's all I'm gonna say.

  • @nourali2

What the fuck is wrong with you?

I'm a Pens fan, but I think that the tribute in 1998 was one of the most moving things I've ever seen. Hell, I'd be bawling my eyes out -- and not because my team lost, either.

  • As a Flyers fan, I'm happy he got to win the cup in 97.

As much as I hate the wings for the trouble they give us, it's good to see he got to win the cup before his accident.

  • the two dislikes are from Lemeiux and Lindros

  • Warrior

  • A true hockey warrior--an artist of the hard clean check. Nothing cheap about his play. I had to sell all my hockey momentos but I have kept my Konstantnov plague. Great if they could retire his number.

  • Volodya! You're the best!

  • the first person to "dislike" this video will be beaten to death by McCarty and Kocur and then their soul will be beaten up by Probert....

  • @RampRat1984 i just disliked it

  • we love ya vladdie and sergei

  • I still have his Jersey. I was so happy i met him. Made me cry to see him that way but he still is a great ass hockey player.

  • Number 16 forever

  • and where did Irina go ?? left him and moves d to NJ... nice job.. Got her money ticket out of Russia and when she got sick of taking care of Vladdy, divorces him and bolts.. Thanks, gotta go

  • @ProfessorIgor Yeah, that pisses me off to this day! What happened to her part of the vows "through sickness and health, for richer or poorer til death do us part"? Heartless BITCH.....

  • konstantinov was a Beast and still is!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is really nice to see. He's looking pretty good -- better than I imagined. As an ardent Canucks fan I usually hate the Wings but it all goes out the window when Konstantinov is involved.

  • if you don't know the name Vladmir Konstantinov....you are not a true hockey fan....

  • if your eyes didn't tear up a little, there's something wrong with you.

  • @peterm89 AMEN to that, Peterm89!

  • I remember this day.. and I was only 3 years old. One of my few memories from when I was that young...

  • 5:17 "god love you vladdy, we do" =)

  • @volaris123d That or Ray Bourque lifting the cup. But yeah this is a great moment.

  • russian women have greatest hearts. God loves you all and I love God.

  • Oh my God.

Not a Wings fan, but when they put the Stanley Cup in his lap and he gave a thumbs up, goosebumps all over my body, and every hair on my arms stood up.

    Amazing.

  • @MasonMsotsos yeah it was probably the greatest moment in hockey history.

  • Vlade is still young and he has come a long way.

He was on his way to the HoF

He looks SO much better now, walking and cracking jokes.

This video was 2 years ago, I can only hope every year he keeps getting better and better.

  • poor vladdie

  • poor vladdie

  • I will never forget the night/morning when the accident happened. I was watching Fox 2 when they broke in with the story. I cried for days, especially everytime they played "We Are the Champions" by Queen. Vlady, you are an inspiration and will always be one of my favorite hockey players of all time.

  • thats so sad, he used to fuck people up and then that. :(

  • this man is the toughest NHL Player EVER, more Tougher than Zdeno Chara

  • I want my kids to be like this man

  • If this video gets on thumbs down I will personally seek you, then destroy you.

  • The great Ted Lindsay said of Konstantinov,

"He could have played in any era."

I'm convinced had he stayed healthy, the Wings win one or two more cups.

  • what a fighter, great person

  • where can I find the full episode of this?

Vladdie is such a inspirational person for people like me who have some degree of brain damage

  • Владимир, благодаря Вам я начал заниматься хоккеем. Спасибо Вам! Счастья Вам и вашим близким!

  • Vlad the Impaler was a bad man on the ice!! All the best to him. He wasn't all that big, but he could lay some wood on someone.

  • haha, "how are you doing with your putting?"

    "Bad."

    God Bless him.

  • Здоровья тебе Володя!

    More health to you Volodya!

  • From my point of view, i hav a cuzin with brain damage from a car accident, and u dont see how sad it is untill u actually see how they function, we all no that vlady will be remembered forever.

    god bless vladimir konstantinov

  • should retire his number in the joe.

  • @WhaleRider86 His number is not retired because the Red Wings still keep an open locker wit his name on it

  • Comment removed

  • @WhaleRider86 they should retire it but no one will EVER put on the number 16 winged wheel anyways

  • Thanks for sharing. I don't like the Redwings but Vlad was and has always been a class act. Good to see him working hard and the support he is getting from everyone. I'd love to play a round of golf with him.

  • 3:18 brought tears to my eyes.

God I love the dedication and the love for hockey in Detroit.

    I miss you Vlad. :(

  • at the time i didnt think it was serious... but.. when they had the press conference at the hospital.. and seeing stevie.. crying.. it was bad... ..

  • i live in michigan, im 16 and a huge red wing fan, and was too young when konstantinov played and i wish, still wish, i could watch konstantinov play. we will never forget

  • katiern05 is far from alone about the tears due to this.. this both heartbreaking but yet warming (about the way he is getting better and all the support he is getting nonstop for example) clip. I hardly tear up, but things like these turns me into a human sprinkler. Big respect to Vladimir and Mnatsakanov - forever.

  • Anyone who dislikes this video should be hang in the rafters at Joe Louis Arena

  • @mgljimcmgl

Anyone who dislikes this video isn't even close to good enough to be hung in the rafters at The Joe.

  • @mgljimcmgl all the dislikes are avs players

  • i think i can speak for me and my fellow canucks fans everywhere: konstantinov was and still is a beast. i wish him well! :)

  • #16 should be hanging from the rafters at Joe Louis Arena.

  • @SuperSportSS I think it is.. It's why Hull couldn't wear it (and I'm sure Hull wouldn't wear it, out of good taste anyhow)

  • Comment removed

  • now theres a real hockey player!

  • I STILL miss you Vladdie! You will always be the #1 defenseman of all time in my opinion.

  • #16 should be raised to the rafters of the Joe where it rightfully belongs!

  • @ddavenport I agree but it's good that players show respect to Vladdy and not wear the number 16 =)

  • All the respect to Vladinator

  • This is so sad..

  • hang the driver

  • Чертовы лимузины!

  • A guy at the fuckin pinnacle of his athleticism and career, and some fuckin drunk piece of shit takes it all away from him. Fuckin BS

  • That brought tears to my eyes even more than 10 years later...

  • That's one tough sonofabitch.

  • this is so sad...Always believe!

  • Im so happy to see that Vlad is getting better and feeling well nowdays. Its a miracle and makes me cry too. True warrior that never gives up!

God bless u Vlad and take care!

  • Believe

  • VERIM!

  • Vladimr is the history of my Detroit red wings and will be loved forever by every hockey fan ever.

  • For a brain stem injury he's doing pretty well. Still a tough son of a gun. No doubt he gets the finest care but to recover that much shows a tenacity only someone like Konstantinov would have. I'm not a wings fan (Blues) but I was going to UofM at the time and sort of followed them then and he and Fedorov were the guys I liked to watch. Fedorov for his athleticism and Vlady for his old-school, hip-checking, crease-clearing defense. I'll always remember that hit on Klatt to end the series.

  • My brother has a signed, game worn jersey framed in our basement. Always Believe. #16.

  • My family and I were in Michigan during the back-to-back Cup wins. After the accident, my sons and I went to the site and signed the giant card they had for him. My oldest got his picture in the Detroit Free Press as he signed. I've read the comments. . .I don't care if you hate the Red Wings. . . .what happened to the Vladinator was a tragedy. . . .his recovery is a miracle! God Bless him forever, and GO WINGS!!!!!

  • Thanks all who care of Vladimir in N.America.

    From Russia with gratitude.

  • After 2012, I will go to the grown and pay respects to the 5 Russians tht made the history in Hockey Town!!!

  • You're the man Vladi! Thanks for bringing the Stanley Cup back to my beloved Red Wings. But more importantly, thanks for all of your inspiration in all the years that followed.

  • They did'nt call him Vlad the Impaler for nothing!! Dude was one of the best defensemen of his time. Love the fact that the organization did not turn their backs on him and his family after all this time. Red Wings are a class act.

  • god bless you Konstantinov, so sad it's just utter stupidity that people to this day drink and drive, it causes nothing but sadness, god bless vladdy

  • Damn.. This brought tears to my eyes..

  • the vladiator... that mother fucker richard gnida ruined his life! bastard should be tortured and throw him off a bridge!

  • Man, pains me to watch this.

Anyone notice how old he looks because of the accident? You looks far beyond his age.

I am glad he is doing much better though.

  • A European who played with the spirit of a North American... Could have played...stared,,, with the broad street bullies

  • Not a Redwings fan at all, I actually can't stand them. But when they handed him the Stanley Cup and took pictures with him when they won it, that was pretty moving.

  • @Smasher258 you are a heartless punk. you either dont know anything about hockey, or you are an avalanche fan. Vladdy was one of the greatest defencmen to ever play the game. If not for the limo accedent he would posibly still be playing and have at least 3 more stanley cups. i was only 7 when it happened but i remember it well. when i saw Steve give the cup to Vlad i teared up a little, still do.

  • @titletown63 Fuck you, I'm an Avalanche fan, but I always respected Vlad, and numerous other Wings players. Only an asshole would say what he said, not an Avs fan.

  • This is awesome to watch.

  • wow...I started crying watching this, what a lovely moment to have him hold the cup. I am so happy he made progress over the years.

  • They say that Zolpidem is a miracle cure for brain damage such as in an accident. Well hope he and his doctors have heard about it and maybe tried it.

  • @Smasher258 Your a sick person.

  • @Smasher258 haha you're a douchebag
