  • This is the very best of Karen's 'adult" songs ... she has a voice that is so gorgeous and she showed it in this song. She died way too young and the world lost a beautiful voice but even more beautiful of a person. She was just coming into her own when she died.

  • Wasn't the original version of this song first done by Evie Sands? Seems I remember hearing a version by Evie Sands on the radio back in '75.

  • @mrob75 - Yes, and Evie co-wrote it.

  • On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this song a solid 8.

  • I have now listened to every other recording of this song. Karen and Phil have made the definitive version. This would have been a smash hit, maybe only in discos, but would have crept out into the mainstream. The beginning of 'Phase Two' of an illustrious career.

  • Cher?! ...She of the monolithic style? (loud and louder) Cher could never sing with the intimacy of Karen...in fact, Cher could never sing with ANY intimacy (from "I've got you, Babe" on) ...she just "belts" it out, every song sounding much the same. Cher could never hold a candle to Karen Carpenter!

  • Love Karen but wish someone would post Evie Sands version here

  • I dont think she had material for the solo album that really reached the full potential of her vocal ability! The early Carpenters did this best especially self titled album, and A Song For You! There was more, but had she survived and broke out on her own it would have been very interesting to see what material she would have been able to sing! The 70's and 80's was a great era of music for this!

  • I like Cher's version much better with Greg Allman

  • @Jeff95117 I never hear it. I have to look for it.

Remember Karen's version is unfinished and never was released.

  • After listening Cher version, it has more Disco rhythm than this one ...

I definitely prefer this version. Is more sensual....

  • @ssoko Cher & Greg's version is not anywhere like Disco....It was more like blues rock. I still like Cher's version better. Nothing wrong with Karen's. We all have our likes. Glad for the Karen fans to be able to find material they haven't heard before.

  • If you like this version find the original by EVIE SANDS.

    It is WAY hotter.

  • I think, that sexual song content is not fit to Karen. And that kind of music was a fail.

  • Karen and Andy, two wonderful singers, they go to soon. Love you both!

  • Can someone tell me the title of her solo album?

  • @rayva1 it's named Karen Carpenter.

  • So let me get this straight. They decided to jettison this track but they kept "Still In Love With You" and "All Because Of You?" Someone make sense of that one for me.

  • @Nostaljack

No sense at all! And dont get mestarted on remember when lovin took all night

  • this song has a late 70s bluesy disco feel to it.

  • Very provocative for Karen. I love her solo album, just as I love the Carpenters material, and I'm sorry the forces that be held her solo career back.

  • WOW - This is a side of Karen Carpenter I NEVER heard before and I LIKE IT! This song is HOT! It's a shame her brother - and the record company - tried to keep her asexual. She was much too hot to have been hiding behind those "granny dresses" and "commercial" songs.

  • @rpm8064 While the album wasn't as "classic" as the stuff she did with Rich, it still deserved to be released and heard in 1980. Not 16 years after she died. Your right. She was an incredibly beautiful woman inside and out. Yes...she was sexy but also classy. Ever see video/photos of her between 1974-1977? Absolutely stunning. It's a shame she didn't see her own beauty and worth. Anorexia is a horrible disease. It's a crime she isn't still alive.

  • Cool video!! Love the clips from the ON-J show. They're much better quality that the onles I've seen in the past. Thanks!

  • I am in love with this song! =]

  • I think the lyric, instead of And there's the lightening and thunder Any set of wonders Party on with what you've got Keep it up forever No-one does it better Baby get it while it's hot should be There's no lightning or thunder Any seven wonder Mightier with what you've got Keep it up forever No-one does it better Baby get it while it's hot
  • nice, where can we find copies of these unreleased tracks? thanks.

  • love the sensuality of her voice...soothing and clear...also enjoy the change in tempo...hope all her solo unreleased songs will get released...richard carpenter should work on this.

  • i like the video and karen's voice, but the song sucks.

  • Karen solo album was released in 1996!!!

  • Parte I

  • wow, GOOD COMMENT I AGREE!

  • When the solo album was finally released I, for the life of me cannot understand why this remained on the shelf. This is fantastic!!!! Such a shame that solo album was shelved

  • @inkimuff : you can by the solo album in a store, it was released, this and serveral more songs wasn't finished and are surfing in the net- Karen' solo album was released in 1986...

  • @Rick0Rick0Rick

    Try Beachwood 5-6789

  • this music was perfect for the time.what a shame.who would,nt fall in love with this woman and her beutiful voice.tom bur in the ass,boy did you blow it.

  • 0:41

    0:53

  • perfect

  • ...this HOT solo track and then we get 'Now,' as 'Carpenters', a Disneyesque sleeping pill. It was time for a change, Karen knew it and her solo material is a welcome change of pace.

  • Yes I think It's wonderful, you right

  • I love this woman, I wish she was still around, I would have loved to have met her. I sing along with here every night when I am taking a bath, LOVE YOU KAREN, CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YOU IN HEAVEN. WE MISS YOU SO MUCH ON EARTH! BUT YOUR VOICE WILL LIVE ON FOREVER.

  • @maleficentdiva I met Karen when I was a child three times in Valley Forge, PA.. Each time she stopped what she was doing to talk to me...even gave me her autograph. After one show she was in back of a car and the window went down, she raised her eyebrows at me, smiled and waved. She was nice, down to earth and kind.

  • Karen making love?

  • KAREN SPIRIT

  • i love her vocals...she was truly a wonderful artist.

  • Beautiful song....thanks for sharing Vimal!!! :)

  • you're welcome, Sara !!

    ~ v.

  • great

  • Well it's also interesting to know that Tina Turner considered Karen a great singer, and after Karen passed...always wished she could have dueted with her...

  • That would have been a good song, but I always wished Karen and Olivia Newton-John did a duet.

  • I have never portrayed Karen as a saint...she was a woman with problems, due to her insecurities...she happened to be a fabulous singer...

As for abandoning Richard, what was she to do He had to go away for treatment in Kansas...and where was he when she was in NY for 1982...was he there everyday? No he wasn't...and he ignored her for a period of time, which crushed her spirit...

Were his parents there holding his hand during treatment either?

  • But, you know what...she was a singer and it was HER choice to want to do a solo album...why wouldn't she want a chance to explore and sing new things...what artist wouldn't?

What, with Richard in REHAB because of his fault...she's supposed to give up her career on account of him...!!??! That is silly...

A&M was the one who propositioned her...and they knew she wanted to be busy musically...

  • Well I am not talking about Karen controlling Richard and his girlfriends...that's their personal life...

What I am talking about is the control that others had over her. And she really had no say.

As for her leaving Richard, there was NO reason why she couldn't leave Richard to do a solo album. Why should she have to stay chained at the hip with Richard. And also, A&M CAME TO KAREN with the idea for the solo album...and yes, RC considered that TREASON...

  • I think people forget what Karen wanted. She wanted to sing in new style, and sing things she wanted to sing.

With Richard, for goodness sake, kept things hidden from her till she got to the studio, and sometimes didn't even know what she would be singing...

That was about control. He control alot of things around her...who she got to sing with, what songs they sing, what range etc.

I am not saying he was a bad person, but he knew she was so good at what she did...

  • what is the clip 1:29 - 1:49 from? I have always wondered where it from and if maybe i can find anywhere. someone please help. thanks in advance.

  • karencarpenterfan1, I believe the clip is from a special from '79 or '80 call"Olivia Newton-John Hollywood Nights", it's a fantastic clip with Olivia, Toni Tennille and Tina Turner (amongst others) singing a cover of the Eagles' "Heartache Tonight", Karen should have had more singing time in that piece in my opinion!

  • Thank you so much, you were right. I was just watching the video on YouTube!.

  • I believe the original plan was for Karen to sing a song from her solo album on Olivia's special. But when her album was shelved by A&M, that left her with nothing to do on the show but this brief cameo. It must have been a big disappointment for Karen, but she smiled her way through it.

  • Great theme

    Thanks

    Hugs

    Susana

  • brilliant... it's too bad she had a disease :(

  • Wow ! What a wonderful song !

Karen Carpenter is absolutely brilliant !

Never thought she had such a sexy voice !

Such a erotic song and she did full justice to it !

It's a far cry from 'Close to You' song but she sung it brilliantly !

    Absolutely loved it !

    Simply 5 ***** !

    Just great !

    Thanks.

    Regards.

  • @033789 karen fantastic voice gg ski x

  • This song is fantastic!! I love it! I especially love how it goes all slow, suddenly speeds up, then slows back down. I'll never understand why it wasn't released. That broke Karen's heart....

  • where is the serious healthy girl of the Ticket to ride video, in 1969 ?

    =(

  • I agree that her single songs were much better than critics thought. Her unique voice was showcased on "Lovelines" and the album was excellent. One of my favorite songs from it is "Honolulu City Ligthts". It is too bad she died so young because she had a long career ahead of her. Thanks for posting.

  • I simply adore Karen Carpenter. I, like many fans, hate that she & her lovely voice were silenced so soon before her time. Richard has said that her solo songs did not fit the register of her voice & her unique vocal qualities, & I tend to agree. They sound mixed & aimed at making her sound more like Olivia N.J. & that's a shame. Tho I believe that her solo material could have been successful, I think that it would've been better in Richard's & A&M's hands, IMHO.

  • I think the songs are great but I think she sounds better singing in her lower register...I think she would've sounded much better at a lower key.

  • It's a shame they never released her solo album when she was alive. That really broke her heart. Her solo effort was way ahead of its time----the songs fit into today. Those people who refused to release her solo album had no vision of Karen's progressiveness as an artist.

  • I feel like her...

    kc spirit

  • Karen spirit forever

  • Love this song, its catchy. She really did a good job on her solo album.

  • Karen, we miss you greatly. I was thrilled to find this song here.

  • I thought of the perfect name for Karen Carpenter. She should be called Our Lady of Rock Divinity. I'm going to go and paste this message on some other videos because I think it's a good name. I hope it catches on.

  • I really love the name... she is and will be Our Lady of Rock Divinity... amen.

  • You never replied me about this song...I sent you a message, and i still waiting

    KAREN SPIRIT

  • Amazing! I love it so much!

  • Karen, I never heard this one before until now on youtube . . now that you are in eternity while I still sit in this time and space, still connected in the afternoons and caught in the mornings. L, R. You are so gifted beyond limits of human voices.

  • my favourite of all karen`s songs. this could have helped her make the transition from young girl to mature woman. fanf***ingtastic!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No, that is not true. Richard is happily married with children. He was and is Karen's biggest supporter.

  • You're right.

  • very nice voice even she is not here on earth.

  • what video is that from when she and olivia are dancing around that stage

  • nice lyrics....lol...

  • 'keep it up forever, no one does it better' LOVE IT. The rest of the world would have woken up to Miss Carpenter's vast talent with this song, the few that weren't on board with 'Carpenters'.

  • So this track is unreleased? Does that mean I can't get an MP3 anywhere? I love this song.

  • omg this is truly amazing, i was shocked when i learned karen carpenter had her solo album

now im literally speechless to know theres actually even more (unreleased) tracks to it

god bless karen, wherever she is. theres never gonna be anyone like her

  • Karen is one of a kind. I have missed her since the day she left. I know there has to be so many, many songs they have not released yet! I am hearing songs on here I do not have. Where are they coming from and how do we get them???

  • Hey Karen, we miss you girl, come on back, your voice is so sweet and sincere. Love you babe, your the best honey. All my love. Paul W.

  • Why the negative? This lady needs help. Not negative comments. Be nice to her.

  • catchy song:D

  • Karen's anorexia made her look so much older than her 30-ish something. Very sad. :(

  • I have only heard this twice, and I must say this could still be a big hit today. A great song.

  • such a pure sweet voice, there will b no other like hers.

  • This is BY FAR the best of the unreleased items on the "lost" stuff of the solo album. I totally agree this should have been on the solo release and would have made an excellent single!

  • Brilliant song. Is there any way of getting these unreleased songs at CD quality? Where did this posting come from?

  • I found it as mp3 in emule.

  • Is there any way of getting hold of these unreleased songs at CD quality? Where did this posting come from?

  • I heard Richard was very upset about her going it alone.

But he did work hard creating the sound.

But many great 80's stars were part of a huge band in the 70's.

There are to many to list and I doubt you care to read any more of my gibberish.

  • This is a great song ! I can see why it was not released, because it would have meant the end of the Carpenters. Karen would have soared, but because of a few people, they saw to it that Karen's wings were clipped. I, for one, would have bought both her single and album. Karen set the standard for the Carpenters success. Without her voice, I doubt that people would have stopped in their tracks and listened....including me ! God love your heart and soul, Karen......

  • "If We Try" is my favorite track from these sessions. She sounds great and it even sounds somewhat Carpenteresque.

  • She was definetely the best! NO doubt about it. Thank you for sharing this wonderful song.

    Love from Buenos Aires, Argentina

  • Karen looks so freaking gorgeous, and beautiful

  • this is a great song wish that was in her solo album but thanks ssoko for sharing this one with us. Shows how sexy Karen could be and how fun dancing and groving she could be. Can't help but tear up when i see how skinny she got so sad this disease.

  • Oh my she is really a lovely girl!!she was just too perfect!!

  • I agree KC sounds so sexy here. I remember in an interview she once said that her public wont let her grow. I mean she wont always be the young Karen.I f only they gave the chance to branch out on her own.

  • Are there any more unreleased Karen Carpenter songs?

  • That voice! Absolute perfection!!!

  • Her voice was so perfect, I agree!!

  • anybody know what year this was? Was this a solo without Richard?

  • It was 1980, Richard was hospitalized for his pill's addictions and she did her solo album. Some tracks never was finished. This one is one of them.

  • pas mal du tout

  • great song,... 5 *

  • I love this. I truly hope these solo songs will be released. Richard has released several of them...but I don't get why these are not among them. How did they get out originally?

  • Wow karen sings soooo sexy here it fits her too after all she was already in her 30 s.I think the public would have accepted the mature karen. She couldnt have been singing goody two shoes songs all her life.

  • Secrets message to HP from EH whit love

  • This is one of my fav tracks from her leftover solo album tracks. Great song.

I agree with Richard, though...she sang everything in too high of a register. Gone is that deep, rich, resonating vocal Carpenters sound.

  • Does anybody know who the composer of this song is?

I think Jerry Moss and Herb Alpert killed this record because they thought it might be the end of Carpenters. How would the public view her on stage singing with her brother now that she just told the whole world "Hey-I have a libido!" I don' think the public wanted to think of her in those terms.

Funny, they may have shelved her solo album to save Carpenters and in the end it killed them both.

  • Too funny, and possibly too true.

  • So weird to be playing this, as it's been too long between releases - it makes me want to download it on my shuffle. Is it available on branvia's website?

  • Thank you for sharing. She was one of the great ones. She was a trail blazer in the things she did, thank you so much, johnnie

  • Richard was in drug rehab when karen cut this album in N.Y. He was resentful she did this album, which is why none of these great song have been released... too bad!

  • Probably Richard wasn't happy with her album, but it was Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss who decided. (if you want to blame someone...)

But this song wasn't in the album for her decision...

  • She has the sexiest voice ever.

  • Love this song, the video is brilliant too. I agree, Richard should really release the unreleased material. Its just too good to be left on a shelf.

Who is dancing in the video with Karen ? I recognise Tina Turner and i think Olivia Newton John is there too, but who are the others ?

Where and what was the video recorded for and is it available on here in its original format

  • Near Karen is Andy Gibb,The tall blond is Tony Tenille, there is Elton John, Olivia Newton John, Tina Turner, Cliff Richards...

  • Karen was a great singer, and this was a great song, which showcased another aspect of her voice, a lighter, happier side. I wish that Ricard Carpenter would complete all the unfinished songs from the solo sessions. There seem to be enough material for another album. If you're out there, Richard, please listen.

  • It's so sad that Karen died of anorexia. She'd probably be the world's greatest musician in most of the world! A moment of silence for the world's greatest female drummer. *silence*...

  • Done.

  • Thank you for sharing! I never knew about some of her music that was unreleased until I found "Love Making Love To You" today on this channel! I love all of Karen's songs!

  • love love love

  • Seems like she's singing in a slightly higher key in her new album, but I still like it, its a different sound, but as usual her voice carries the song through.

  • When I first listened to her solo album, like many other people, I thought it was horrible. But the thing is - it is just different. And the more I listen to it the greater it sounds to me. I wish someone would've given it a chance while she was alive. She could've used the encouragement. She was so boxed into one sound - now, after obsessively listening to Carpenters albums, her solo work is refreshingly different to me.

  • With Karen s talent she would have survived the 80 s and she she would have been singing still today making good music.

  • I used to listin to this song all the time in summer of 2007 on here since I couldnt buy it on itunes. I just heard it again and it reminded me of summer!

  • Does everyone realize that Karen left us 25 years ago. I mean that is like a long time. Yet we all still miss her and her voice. Wow.

  • I mentioned this before...Once Karen has touched your heart, you are never the same. No One can even get close to the "Voice" of Karen. She is deeply missed and loved to this very second.

Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

  • Karen's soulful voice has continued to go on. Richard for all the great composing he may have done will continue to slip into history while Karen's voice will go on. Like Sonny and Cher, Richard may have wrote the songs Cher is the one who went on. Karen Carpenter you are missed, may you be at peace to soar the way God intended you to more than you ever experienced here on earth in your short life.

  • You can't compare Sonny with Richard... (sonny was always a bad musician)but if you want a comparison probably you can compare Richard with Brian May. Freddy was the voice but you can't deny what the others give to Queen's music. Is exactly what happened with Carpenters. Karen was the voice of Richard's music.

  • I would say Tina Turner brought life to Ike's music. Tina was so good she has brought music to many styles and composers music. If Karen had had that chance Richard would have been in the dust. She loved her brother a great deal but I believe we saw the tip of the iceberg of where her talent was headed. Karen like Olivia would have survived the 80's music scene as we left disco, new wave, rock and back to dance. A talent that is sorely missed.

  • Richard's music brought back Dusty Springfield four years after Karen's death. The same song that nowadays Claire dela Fuente sings.

This was just one of the songs he made after Karen pass away.

But it was his decision not to come back to the music business as he did in the '70.

One sign that he is still in the music world... is that discussion :-)

  • I saw Richard in concert after the death of Karen in the late 80's. He is an incredible pianist and no one appreciates a good composer and pianist like I do. Unfortunately, they are the unsung hero's of the music world. Marvin Hamlisch (composed the music to The big Sting with Robert Redford) is a good comparison to Richard. I also respect him. Losing a sibling in your 20s is so very tragic. I am glad he was able to overcome the grief and keep playing.

  • Karen and Richard completed each other. No other Duo has been able to match the talent of these fine musicians.

By the way, Rich continues to arrange and produce many new artists. He was the brains of the business and Karen was the beauty & Voice we all love and deeply miss.

  • I'm not disagreeing that Richard has amazing musical and business savy, but give Karen credit for her brains as well. She was the first (and critically acclaimed as the best) female drummer in rock and roll history, and was able to perfect re-create, note for note and pitch for pitch, what she had done in the studio. Very few musicians or singers can do that. A and M records execs have said that Karen never did a retake in all her studio years. She was known as "the one take wonder"

  • Terrific information, Thanks!

  • She was known as "the one take wonder

I never knew that and thought I knew 'everything karen'. Thanks for sharing.

  • Anyone who thinks that Richard wasn't a hugh part of Karen's success is an idiot. His incredible arrangements were made for Karen's incredible voice. Some of the best arrangements ever.

  • To be honest the only star was Karen, I mean none remembers her brother, casue his music was ok for the early seventies but he could only create the same old sound, prove of that is that his solo album was a complete CRAP, It is sad that Karen wasn´t treated fairly by her family. She is the only remembered 25 years after.
