california produced a wave of outstanding track runners in the mid 90's. very few of them seen professional careers but you can only imagine what would have been.
I had the honor of getting my ass spanked by Granville in a meet back in 1996. To be sub-two and lose by nearly 100 meters is certainly a humbling experience; one that I will never forget.
Let's see you run a 1:46. !:46 is still the high school 800m record. On a collegiate standpoint 1:46 can win a national championship (ncaa). On a world class standpoint 1:46 is average, it won't win a medal but it is a competitive time. So there is your physics and natural talent.
If you are speaking in regards to world class great, then I would agree with you, but as far as high school great, he was exceptional. Would you agree?
Not naturally a great runner. He hold the National Record at all grade. 2 time state, and holds every single record at my HS from 800 down, he was a great natural runner.
yo mike Class of 94, ur one strong brotha, think bout it u attended a school prodominately Mexican, not latino, hispanic, whatever the fahk. You were dealing with some of the Baddest Chicanos on the lower east side of L.A. at a time of racial tension...And u were still able 2 do big thangs...You may not know this but because u were representing Bell Gardens All the hommies made shure nobody messed with you...
This race brings back so many memories. I remember wanting to quit after this. Aaron ran a great race. Amazing, how I can now appretiate what I did, over a decade later. Thank you, who ever put this online. I would love to see the next year when I went 1:46.45.
Classic case of a kid who was pushed to the brink by his dad and ended up getting burned out by the time they got to college. Add him to a long list of kids that this happened to (William Reed, Kim Mortensen, Derrick Florence, Roy Martin, etc.)
he lost this race at cerritos college.I was warming up and getting ready for the 2 mile when I saw michael walking to the parking lot with his spikes on his hands and getting yelled at by his father!!!!
did he break his own record later on with a 1:46?

1:46 is great competing for national times as well. 1:46 is UNBELIEVEABLE, especially at high school level. well done granville.

I find it interesting how a good amount of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, even 5th place athletes seem to do bigger things in college than those champs.
