To keep our hair nice... LOL Just Kidding. A lot of people wonder that also. You would think well, if he goes in what good is a helmet? The helmet or "frap hat" as I wear, are there so that we don't get knocked unconsious by someone else. You saw the people bouncing off each other in that violent wrap in the other video. Without helmets they could be knocked out or killed from impact with each other. Hence the protection.
You can also hit your head on the door on the way out, or the airplane could crash on take off. Not all aircraft crashes result in death. A helmet can keep you alive so you can get out of the burning plane. Lots of reasons for helmets or frap hats (soft helmets like mine).

I don't even get email messages about my subscriptions having new vids up. Don't know why... I just look at all my subscriptions every day to see if they have new vids up.
Now that was a good video, all kinds of neat things, I loved the can hitting the ground to bad Tabby wasn't there to walk over and sniff it, like it's dad's can. I was thinking I wish he would show the canopy, just then you did. What a smooooth landing awesome video you did a good job.
Thanks! I love flying my canopy for longer periods of time like this. We call it a hop n pop. We hop out and deploy our canopies almost immediately. Then ride it down for quite a long time. More like a bird then.
Now that's a great hobby, it looks like an amazing rush, something I gotta try at least once in my lifetime. I bet the endorphines are flowing and you feel on cloud nine when you do that, talk about a natural high
Nice flight for a beautiful morning! You should consider rigging a helmut mount for the camera so you don't have to hang onto it and fly at the same time.
I do think if you opened that can in freefall it'd probably blow everywhere. Much safer (and less messy) when you're cruising. :-)
Everyone has a helmet cam. You can't swing a dead cat in freefall without hitting a helmet cam. This is a totally different view than most other photographers offer. And it's not hard to steer or anything. It is attached to my palm and I can't lose it unless I want to lose it. I can still grab everything I need to grab and flying is the same with or without it.
I figured they were pretty common, but for a reason. And of course I was picturing you trying to hang onto it, aim it, and still use that hand for everything you NEED it for. Apparently, what you've rigged is a "hands-off hand mount." Nice idea. And yeah, a lot more versatility when it comes to aiming.
Yes I actually got the idea from Tandem Instructors who are using hand-cams instead of hiring a seperate photographer. If you search out tandems you will see them using them. Only thing I don't like about theirs is they use wide angle lens's. Lensi? Well anyways I don't like the fish eye look cuz you can't really see the ground view.
Interesting. They're probably using the wide angle (lenses) for convenience, so they get what they want without having to do much aiming, and they DO have other things to keep track of. I agree that the fish eye look is artificial, but in your case you have it there BECAUSE you're making a video, and you can pay a lot more attention to aiming it. The only other thing you have to keep track of is that root beer.
nice seperation lol. Dude has got some yellow ass teeth. crest white strips are your friend.

The helmet could also save you if you landed wrong, or landed on Mike Tyson.

When you jump with an open can of soda, does the contents get siphoned out too quickly to drink?

I don't open it till after my canopy is open and I am flying under control. If I were to try to open it in freefall it may do just that. Never tried.

Since you can lose your entire fuel suplpy leaving a cap off the upper wing tanks, I would expect you would lose at least most of the drink.
