  • HAHAHAH I know the drummer for this band. Rick Bizzaro

  • The screenwriter of the film Event Horizon has said this record was an influence

  • I love all the time signature changes on thresholds, too bad everyone is always comparing the key and thresholds, they both kick ass!!

  • I always though Nocturnus was an interesting band and was one the most overlooked underrated band of the Florida scene.

  • Everybody always gives credit to Death Atheist and Cynic.... but far too few people give credit to this band for their amazing contributions in the first movements of prog death.....

  • NO WORDS!

  • i like this one better than the key but most dont listen to this one on acid and youll be floating around in space or drowning in aquatica

  • Great song!

  • damn nigga lost his keys in da droid sector.

  • is this the first band to use the space scifi metal theme ? kickass .

  • 5:33 makes me feel like a n00b on guitar despite my years of antigonising efforts ...

    Awesome talent.

  • One of the greatest albums of the 90s death metal scene and way ahead of its time.

  • It has a space ship and a pentagram on the album cover. What more could you possibly want?

  • @purplesquirrl Best album review ever

  • is that planet Apokolips in the back?? the planet

  • death metal pro de verdad!!!!

  • katy perry's much better

  • @scratchneck Katy Perry : Nocturnus = shit : chocolate

  • @MelinusMargos u mad brah?

  • @MelinusMargos mad?

  • As much as I loved "The Key", Mike Davis' solos were more controlled on this album, though the solo for this song is a bit of wankery. Their sci-fi theme and instrumental mastery was a rarity for the time when this was recorded. Brilliant and criminally underrated band, in my humble opinion!

  • i like when bands only have a few releases then they break up because that way they never turn shitty

  • awesome love these guys cool album cover too

  • 5:24 - pure old time Sepultura! brilliant underrated record - would be a good idea to re-record this with a better sound btw

  • This album is WAY better then "The Key" and I LOVE that album.

  • @slayyer000 hmzya

  • @oliverAP13 u mad?

  • Thresholds is in my top three Dm albums ever!!!So fucking great.Although when i was getting into them first i of course started with the key thinkin it was awesome but then heard this and it kind of made the key seem real average.Great band anyhow!

  • IT`S SO SAD THAT SOME GOOD BANDS DIDN`T MAKE IT THROUGT TIME..........

  • If you like space death metal check out ELEMENT

  • The main problem with this album is the vocals, the Key had way better vocals.

  • great song

  • wow this is so good glad i clicked onthis

  • Mike Davis will go down as the most under rated metal guitarist of all time

  • Great Album

  • i loved the key and i was so looking forward to this album, it had its moments like nocturne in bm but i feel they were trying too hard and forgot to make the songs catchy and instead a lot of them sound like a complete cluster fuck, listening back on it now though its growing on me nearly 20 years later

  • @darkestfugue I exactly feel the same way about "The Key", which is too much based on crazy guitar soli IMO, but good soli don't make a good album. "Thresholds" is much more "controlled" and harnessed... more catchy.

  • Some may disagree with me, but I think that "Thresholds" is musically far superior to "The Key". I just low the melodies and the ambience these guys created back in the day!!! It pulls you right into it. I wish there were more bands like Nocturnus.

  • dude i never heard of this band till recently.. THEY KICK ASS!!

  • check out their first album: THE KEY (about 1989?) - which is far more technical than this, and their last album ETHEREAL TOMB (late 90's) which is a far less technical.

The one in the middle THRESHOLDS is something in between, but they all kick ass in their own way!

    \m/

  • @03041976001 alright i will.. ive been listening to The Key its fuckin amazing!

  • love this band, i think is awesome and one of the best death metal bands

  • picking technique of lead guitarist is fucking amazing, how is he called?

  • MIKE DAVIS

  • Big song!

  • Meh. i think it would sound good if the quality wasnt so poor. is it the recording or the upload?

  • vaya nivel comparado con tanta basura que hay aora ._.

  • i wanna get this CD

  • where the hell can you buy this cd new?

  • i think downloads are easiest way to get em, if not buying the disk somewhere online.

  • perhaps my fav from nocturnous

its amazing they made music like this is the 1990's

  • I love "The Key" and while this were a somewhat weaker album, it's still a great one. I read an interview about a year ago where the interviewer asked Mike Browning about the rough mixes of "The Key". He said something about, "it's certainly a lot heavier and thicker soundwise". I'd love to hear those rough mixes since their album productions are somewhat ... thin. Nocturnus rules btw!

  • sorry, was* not were

  • lml

  • Nice...

  • the riff starting at 1:12 is genius stuff, very atmospheric

  • this bands deserves a million times more recognition. Its too bad they got so brutally overshadowed by the other florida bands . LONG LIVE THE FLORIDA DEATHSTAR

  • i wish there was more metal about sci fi

  • But there is a lot of metal band about sci-fi, especially in technical death metal (check the last The Faceless for exemple (Planetary Duality) or the french technical thrash/death metal CHRYSEIS (they will release a new album soon).

  • I already listen to the Faceless, but i'll be sure to check the other band out, thanks man:P

  • @Draclord35 And Augury, boh of their albums are about planets and terraforming and such.

  • @Draclord35 Vektor and Wormed are two other current bands, more out there and a bit more horror related is Crypticus

  • obscura one of my favorite space metal bands..

  • u should listen to Verbal Deception then...best pirate metalz on earth

lol just call obscura death metal. saying shit like space metal, and cyber metal, and hydrogrind and those bullshit genres just sounds really gay.

  • Yeah ! Cosmogenesis is a great album ! I love "Cybion" by Kalisia too. It's more melodic death/power/prog metal stuff, but this concept album is quite complex and very inspired (it may sound gay at first, but listen to the whole album before any judgment). ;)

  • @Draclord35 Kalisia's 'Cybion' blew me away. Amazing prog. death.

  • i call it that cus thats all they talked about in cosmogenesis, it reminded me of nocturnus cus i feel like im in 2100 when i listen to them

  • that's true LOL.

I feel like im in some cryo-tube while aliens r researching me and probing my anus.

the faceless have some pretty sci-fi sounding stuff on their new album, u should check it out :P

  • Haha, same, and 2100 is such a realistic date...Isn't The Terminator from 2089? haha...

  • Try Voivod, for some super technical musicianship, and in DEEP SPACE!!!

Their guitar player fucking owns, a majority of other Metal guitarists, with his style, and complexity.

  • DUDE, Voivod kicks so much ass it's not even funny.

appearently they inspired metallica...and they from Canada. CANADA all the WAY

  • I KNOW! Piggy will be greatly missed along with Nocturnus. Voivod is on their last tour as we speak, and then they will retire.

Metallica and Voivod were out at the same time, hahaha. They probably influenced each other.

Most Canadian Metal bands fucking rule. One of my best friends, is on Youtube, and she's from Nova Scotia. She's "PleasuresoftheFlesh". Damn, I need to get a band of my own after high school.

  • Metallica also got their bassist Jason Newsted from Voivod.

  • They got him from Flotsam & Jetsam.

  • well be original u do nt have to have that name

  • cyber punk is a movie genre, like the matrix and terminator(old ones)

cyber punk usually involves machines and extreme industrialization

    space metal? lol, awesome genre

  • @Trooperxp It's more then a movie genre, it's a genre of fiction that was born from the William Gibson novel Neuromancer

  • after looking at ur profile i can see that it was not the band i was thinking of.. therefore there is more than one deux ex machina so im stealing that name.

  • @bearblaster420

    Element and Aeons of Eclipse.

  • @bearblaster420 @bearblaster420 ...and check out scarve - "luminiferous " and sadist - "tribe" or "crust" too & maybe darkane's "insanity" & "expanding senses".

strapping young lad's "city" you'll probably already know... but i have to admit that all these bands are very thrashy ;-)

  • @bearblaster420 Denfinitely check Oxiplegatz "Sidereal Journey"

  • @bearblaster420 also check out a newer thrash band from arizona called VEKTOR!!!! they're fuckin sick! very spacy lyrics and progressive as fuck too

  • @bearblaster420 Check out Vektor, their a Progressive Thrash band who have tons of sci fi themes

  • @bearblaster420 Kalisia, bitch.

  • @bearblaster420 Check out Star One. Tey're not exactly Death Metal, but they are still really good

  • @bearblaster420 Vektor, a progressive thrash band with really unique lyrics

  • @bearblaster420 listen to the classics who helped start metal... Blue Oyster Cult! Listen to Veteran of the Psychic Wars and Vengeance.

  • @GeminoSmothers i LOVE Blue Oyster Cult. although i haven't heard those songs before, ill check them out.

It was classic rock that got me started on traditional heavy metal such as Deep Purple, Maiden and so on.

i wouldn't be into extreme metal if it weren't for that music. i'll check it out:P

  • really great band, its a shame they never really took off, the key is definitely one of the best death metal albums imo

  • Man, this sounds so Lovecraftianan!!

Nocturnus is one of the best death metal bands, and the best sci-fi death metal band!

  • Great! Thats why I love Nocturnus.

    Very individual and futuristic...

  • perfect song from a perfect album!!!

    great ambiances, skills, rhythms, themes

  • mam tą płytkę hehe

  • Sci-fi death metal!!!

    it's brilliant...
