Who put the ball in the Arsenal Net? Alan Alan Who put the ball in the Arsenal Net? Alan Alan Who put the ball in the Arsenal Net? ALAN SNIFFER CLARKE
@closertofiftythanyew bugger - that was Waddle on the throttle, not Juantorino opening his legs and showing his class - that must have been Montreal, 1976.
ah leeds fa cup 1972 allan clarke my first footie hero who inspired me to play for my primary school team in cardiff. a classic team in classic time when brits were brits in division 1,not overpaid greedy foreign cream o the crop bstards in a premier league.hissssssssss!
@mgfaxlad won the championsip a season or two following, tool, and got to the European Cup Final the following season when they were robbed, tool. Cloughs 44 days was in the middle of this somewhere........
Alan Clarke was a predator in front of Goal.I saw Leeds play at Old Trafford in 1972. Ted Macdougall put United ahead early on, and Clarke was never in the match, but then in injury time the ball came to Clarke in the box and he planted it in the back of net.You could not let him get away from you for one second even if he was having a quiet game, because to do so spelt trouble, he would punish any defence.Bremner described Clarke as'sheer class'
its ashame this leeds team didnt do what it should have done and won the European cup and won atleast 5 championships in 7 years. if it wasnt for the fucking bios FA and the refs. All political im afraid. great goal.
I've been a Leeds fan for many years but to say Clarke was better than George Best...you really are dreaming.
Clarke was a master finisher..lethal in the penalty area, but Besty could do anything he wanted ..never seen a more skilful player..including poser Ronaldo.
I know exactly what you mean and I didn't intend to insult the great George best as I know how brilliant George was. But for me I just had a personal favourite in Alan Clarke and I just adored his football style. George had a different style and of course George was a super player, but alas we all have our favourites. As an avid leeds fan, Clarke was the cream.
Great footage and a super header by Sniffer. I think I've only ever seen and heard the BBC recording of the goal before: David Coleman doing his classic understated "Clarke! One nil." Nice to hear the late Brian Moore getting a bit more worked up!
"And Allan Clarke has put Leeds ahead!" Brilliant line and gives me goose pimples. I would vote this LeedsGreatest Ever Goal for the reason it was the most important!
Who put it in the Arsenal net? Clarkey, Clarkey, who put it in the Arsenal net? Allan Allan Clarke! Allan Allan Clarke, Allan Allan Clarke, who put it in the Arsenal net? Allan Alla Clarke!
i'm a geordie through and through but supported leeds at this time. i watch this video at least once a week. sniffer is and always will be a hero of mine!!! only peter beardsley ever comes close!!!
And i relived it a thousand times dehind the setee in our living room. Then in front of the mirror i was Billy Bremner kissing a vase and holding it up for all Wembley to see! Memories.
Nice to see it again. This was the first football match I ever watched on television. I was eight years old and my mother was a Leeds supporter! Every bit as good as I remembered it. Thanks

Fantastic memories, viewed on a b/w set in the early 70s. football was much better back then and Leeds were kings.

If you're going to comment about Paul Reaney, at least spell his name right.
But you're right about Best, Reaney one of the few fullbacks he had a problem getting past.

centunary cup final, a classic goal for a classic occassion. Shut up Jimmy Hill, you furry longbeard, get a shave.
Brian Moore commentator, rip and all that, but he was much much better than Tony Colmansballs, wasn't he? even if Brian worked in that London...
closertofiftythanyew 1 year ago
@closertofiftythanyew Tony Coleman??? He played for Manchester City.
David Coleman I meant, the BBC puppet. Janiantorino opening his legs and showing his class. and all that , at the 1972 W. Germany Olympics.

I remember watching this in 1972 in my living room as a kid in Halifax. I think it was the last time Leeds did owt worth shouting about.

For me, Alan Clarke was the greatest footballer of his generation, even better than George Best in my opinion.

Balls Jimmy Hill. Geoff Barnet was too busy trying to look good on the tele with an extravagant dive instead of keeping his eye on the ball.
