Haha, wow I love how people love to come on here and in reality don't know shit about what they're talking about. He told the president, he told the campus police, and it's their fault that they didn't take it farther. You have no idea of the possible ramifications that he could face if he personally took it any farther himself. His job is not to be the one investigating something that at the time was told to him by a 20 year old kid who thought he saw something. R.I.P. Joe. You're a great man!
@MrMichamat Another braindad Pedo State supporter. There would be absolutely no ramifications if he went to the police with that information. I wish I believed in hell just to know Paterno was burning there.
I hope they find those stupid little kids who were molested by Sandusky and burn them ALIVE!!! They are the reason why JoePa is dead, and one day I will find those faggots and slit their throat open for killing him! They probably enjoyed getting sodomized by sandusky, thats why they never told anyone about it! Their lives were meaningless anyways, and nobody gives a shit whether or not they were molested, but it is b/c of them that Penn St. football is ruined! I hope those victims rot in hell
Joe is a fucking piece of shit that knew about children being molested and keep quiet to protect his reputation and the schools. I'm glad he died and hope he fucking rots in hell!
@Glock40guy. what I cant fugure out is all these people talking about how great this guys was, his legacy, etc. a FKNG CHILD MOLESTER IS ALL I SEE!! RIP MY ASS, BURN IN HELL JOE!!!!!
@gapa11 Joe Paterno was not a child molester. That was his assistant Jerry Sandusky. Sandusky is the waste of sperm and egg that will burn in hell. JoePa will be remembered for his gridiron greatness, and your insensitive comments won't change that. Besides, you probably don't even care about the victims. You're likely just looking for a chance to spread hate speech through a community in mourning. And if you can't understand that, then go fuck yourself.
good riddance. glad this jerkoff kicked the ole bucket. joe pa was too much of a scared bitch to rat out his good friend who was butt fuckin boys. fuck paterno. glad he is gone.
@pablohoneybadger What Paterno did was almost as bad as Sandusky. His legacy is worthless, and he should be remembered as the scum bag he was. Shame he didn't get get the chance to get raped in prison.
@stgm I get you are saying that he did things wrong and I believe that is the case too, but are you saying that if he made a relationship with a student 25 years ago before all of this happened that doesn't count?? Was he trying to be a fake nice person or was he really a genuinely nice person who handled a situation in a wrong way in the last 14 years of his life?
Never heard of this Paterno individual until this hoopla. It appears he's some sort of preposterous hero to grown men who recreationally enjoy watching other men run around in the mud with an ovoid ball brawing and touching one another's asses. This is more good solid evidence that we must remove organized sports from our schools and replace that void with something of real value; the concentation of extracurricular activity in theater and the arts from Kindergarten to college graduation.
@Shubael1809 There's a place for both sports and the arts in education. While this was a very tragic episode, sports can be a very valuable way to learn about teamwork, discipline, etc. Sometimes sports does have too much value placed on it by fans and society in general, but it can be helpful to the players involved. As a fan of sports and the arts, placing more emphasis on the arts would be a good thing. However, there's a place for both of them.
And that man and his wife happen to have donated large sums of money to Penn State and to Sandusky's charity, both individually and through the company whose current chairman is now heading Penn State's investigation. Yeah, Kenneth Frazier is going to crack this thing wide open.
To review: Penn State, the school accused of covering up Sandusky's alleged crimes, has begun its own inquiry, which is headed by a man with a history of engaging in cover-ups, and who is chairman of the same company that once was chaired by a member of Penn State's Board of Trustees, who, in turn, is married to a member of the board of Sandusky's charity.
I don't know Sadusky or Paterno, but knew who Joe was since in gradeschool in the 60's. I was molested @ 10 by my best friend's 14 y/o brother & it's negatively affected my life since. I'd protect any boy from what I went thru with my life, because a pedophile & one who'd protect a pedophile deserves jail & a whole lot more. I wanna cry over what was done to me, but I'm too strong in defensiveness over what happened to me.If I wasn't strong I'd go crazy.Dad's it's time to kick pedophile ass!
@DickWhittington1000 sorry to hear that happened to you. I agree with you, it's sick how football can trump basic morality. Paterno's legacy should be the least of his worries. His indifference is just as bad as him pulling up a chair and watching. He's lived long enough.... I hope he dies from his cancer in prison, since he's a cancer on society.
@MRTMARK69 PATERNO DIDNT DO NO CRIME YOU STUPID A HOLE IT WAS THE PERVERT SANDUSKY AND PUNK YOU DONT KNOW WHAT JOE PA KNEW OR DIDNT SO GO FUCK YOUR WHORE MOTHER PUNK!
@LVCrocky Shut you fucking hole bitch. Paterno knew about these little boys getting raped and he was willing to take it to his grave. FUCK HIM AND FUCK YOU COCK SUCKER
@BarefootArizona Fool. "Cocksucker" is one word. I should know since I love doing it so much. Don't insult another poster by using such a magnificent word as "cocksucker" in a negative context. I suspect you enjoy having yours so-treated? Thanks for refraining from abusing a word which describes a perfectly wonderful pastime. Shubael.
why arent you protest agaisnt the fact that the president of the school has been fired???why aren t you protesting about the fact that the athletics directors were let go???if they fired those people they know that a cover up were done.....you dont....
I understand how some PSU students and alums want to defend their school and Paterno. It's a natural reaction, but in time, their views may change. As a Catholic, I'm still ashamed of how the Church handled the priest sex scandal. Like at PSU, some in the Church put the institution ahead of innocent children. Anyone who puts their hands on kids inappropriately should be in jail. However some Catholics tried to defend the Church out of loyalty. To me, that's defending the indefensible.
@Berthasfave1 You make a very good point, and I'm actually in the same boat. As a catholic I find it hard to defend the catholic church. But it is not the catholic church in its entirety. Similarly, its not the university in its entirety. I agree, those culpable should be imprisoned, if we cant protect our kids then we as a society are messed up. But as a psu student I cant say the whole thing is worth abandoning. I dont defend paterno at this point, he knew about it and he protected his
@kmtb1991 I agree that Penn State is an exellent school overall. I'm a resident of PA, and I have friends who went to PSU, and I've been to State College several times. It's a beautiful place, and it's sad that the actions of a few have brought such disrepute to an otherwise great school. My feelings are the same about the Catholic Church. Overall, it's a beautiful religion that has been dealt a serious blow by a small minority. Hopefully, changes will take place to restore the good name of both.
@Berthasfave1 buddy sandusky rather than report it. Yeah he reported it to shultz and curley but a man of joepas character shoulda done more. FOr that matter I think everyone who knew and covered it up internally should be sacked (some BOT members had to have known. But back to my point there are so many great things about PSU (look up penn state THON on youtube). Its not the entire school, and its not all the students or teachers. Its a few men who we entrusted as our leaders who failed.
@kmtb1991 how do we get these idiots removed??? How come Curley is still on payroll??? And the other one on retirement. I'd say take all of that away, and make Sandusky pay back all monies paid since the allegations. Our school is a great school, but the stained is now there.. Hopefully we can move forward.
@TheDrgnfly23 I presonally believe joepa should have been fired, but what im pissed about is the way they did it. the BOT has been looking to get joepa fired for YEARS, and now that this blew up they used him as a scapegoat. fire one you gotta fire them all. personally i think the BOT should all be removed, theres ABSOLUTELY no way this went as high up as joepa, spanier, and curley without them knowing too.
they also gave him a 2 minute phone call saying he was fired. so disrespectful
@komscriv I believe McQueary is now on administrative leave, and probably won't be back at PSU. As far as Schultz and Sandusky's pensions, PSU may be bound contractually at the moment. That may change in time. If any member of the board was aware, they should step down. I'm not sure if there is any explanation for pedophilia, but if there are underlying causes, they should be explored. For now though, he needs to be prosecuted and held accountable. His actions have caused great harm to children.
@komscriv He was fired for reasons both fact-based and opinion-based. The facts in the grand jury presentment show he was aware of Sandusky's behavior. I believe the final straw was when Paterno told the board in his retirement statement to "not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to discuss." Telling them to mind their own business, when the football program is their business, seemed as if Paterno felt he ran the university. That is the B of T's job.
@komscriv The only thing that can be proven or disproven are facts, and from what we know now, Paterno appears to have fulfilled his legal obligation. As to whether he fulfilled his moral obligation, that is a matter of opinon based on facts, and is subjective. Some may believe that he did enough morally by telling Curley, others believe Paterno should've done more. I believe he could have and should have done more.
all the fag pedo state university students are yelling and shouting outside.they screaming that they like taking it in the ass from the fag sanduski and co fags..or whatever there homo names are
Now that the game is out of the way, focus on ridding the town of all things Paterno. Deconstruct the bullshit Paterno myth so the culties can begin to grow up. Drag that statue into the locker room and point it toward the exact spot where Paterno's pal ass fucked the 10 yr. old so Paterno scum can symbolically see that it was NOT fondling. Spit on Paterno if u see his ass in public. So much to do, let's get started!
look at the band of homo pedo's all sitting behind the chairman of all penn state pedo's.....notice the bald heads,,all that came from over exertion thrusts upon thrust,,,LOL
all these penn state chair persons r pedo's u can tell by there bald heads they like sticking the dick up little kids behinds...about 9 years ago they all had full head of hair until they gang raped little boys.and kept wiping the sweat of there foreheads upon penetration.haha.LOL
I've had my say. That bastard was fired, rightly so, and I believe that the victims will have their justice, if not in a criminal court, then certainly in a civil court.
I feel sad for them and their suffering, but I hope that if something good can come out of this, is that people realize that there is more to life than football programs and legacies, that moral responsibility extends beyond legal requirements, and that protecting the most vulnerable in our society is what counts.
@ktherock7 If this shit wasn't all about hero-worshipping morons who enjoy sports AND homosexual attraction we'd never heard a word about it. HOMOSEXUALS IN THE SPORTS BUSINESS? Oh fuck! The world's coming to an end. Sandusky's a rarity in that most pedophile men, more often than not, are abusing underaged girls. Much "juicier" too (word play intended) that it was the disgusting world of organized sports and that folk hero Paterno covered for a football coach who "plays for his own team".
For all those years, '02 to '11, Joe Paterno knew that abuse of a sexual nature had happened in that locker room to a young boy. All those years, after passing the buck to his superiors, he kept quiet.
He knew.
And there is nothing you fuckheads can say that will ever make that right.
Since you fanboys keep moaning about proof, here's an excerpt from the grand jury report, page 7:
"Paterno called Tim Curley("Curley"), Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his home the very next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature ot a young boy."
He knew, and you fuckers are the worst of the worst for defending him.
@komscriv Paterno's actions were immoral. Prove to me how it is not immoral to keep from the proper authorities (not the campus cops, whose leader ended up being one of those involved in the cover-up) the knowledge of a child rape for all those years, from '02 to '11, and leaving Sandusky the time and freedom to go on abusing boys.
Please tell me how that is not immoral. Prove it to me, since you are so obsessed with proof yourself.
@komscriv Nope. I don't have to prove shit to people like you, who are so deeply engaged in your fantasy of half-truths that you just want so desperately to be able to exonerate this pathetic excuse for a human being.
Prove to me that you can be a rational human being and recognize that Joe was at fault and didn't do enough.
@komscriv Joe claims that he was told they were "horsing around." McQueary was a lowly grad assitant at that time, the lowest position on Joe's staff. The mightiest and the lowest in a meeting. Are you seriously going to sit there and say that McQueary didn't tell Joe the truth? And if so, then why was Sandusky barred from the team's facilities? You don't bar someone if you don't suspect something serious going on.
@komscriv A smear campaign? Wow. Show a bunch of fanboys the error of their ways, and they immediately go into conspiracy theory mode.
I am not a part of any concerted "smear campaign." I am just an outraged civilian, one who despises people like you for trying to defend this terrible pedophile enabler. I am only having my say. Truth hurts.
@komscriv I'm sorry, but I focused on McQueary's testimony, where he tells in explicit detail about the rape of a boy in a locker room shower. The same thing he told Joe without skimping on details.
But you fully support the pedophile enabler, so I guess you don't care about that.
@komscriv You are pathetic. He covered his ass legaly, but he failed logically and morally. The true facts are not an inconvenient obstacle. And no, the shit you've been spewing is not all fact, but rather half-truths to support your own opinion.
If you cannot see how he failed logically and morally, then you are as terrible a person as he is. Just deplorable.
@komscriv It is not a false accusation. The man knew about the rape. He told his bosses. They didn't do shit. He didn't do shit until several years later when the grand jury came sniffing around.
What is so difficult to understand about that? How can you Paterno fanboys blind yourselves to the point of negligence? How can you continue to support a man whose inaction led to the sexual abuse of children?
In a way, you are doing a huge disservice to the victims and their families.
@komscriv No, he knew in detail about it. You don't bar a person from a campus (which is the extent of what the PSU authorities did) without knowledge of something serious going on.
There is no political overtone here, your poor, pathetic excuse of a mind is seeing things that are not there. This is purely about a man that didn't do enough to protect kids from a sexual predator, and about those poor sacks of shit that still try to defend him as if he did the right thing.
@komscriv They have as much authority, but are you seriously going to argue that they have the expertise and technical knowledge as sex crimes units that specialize in rape investigations? You are clearly too deluded by your love of football to be thinking straight if you do.
The fact that there was an investigation in 1998 that fell apart does not, IN ANY WAY, absolve Joe of keeping knowledge of the rape of a boy in '02 to himself for almost an entire decade after the fact.
@komscriv No, numbnuts. The campus police has ties to the university, and aside from the obvious conflict of interest, they are the LEAST equipped law enforcement entity to handle this kind of case. History has proven that in the past with rape and murder cases across the nation's campuses. Do a simple google search, it's not that hard.
The state authorities, child welfare services...that kind of entity should have been notified. Sadly, they weren't.
@komscriv And Joe did nothing as well. For all those years he knew about the rape of that boy, and he kept that knowledge to himself along with McQueary, Curley, Schultz, and any other fuck that knew about this.
When I use the word morality, I speak of the higher responsibility that any human being has to his fellow man, and to children everywhere. The duty to protect, to defend those that can't defend themselves. Joe failed in this, and nothing you fanboys say can disprove that.
"Joseph V. Paterno testified that the graduate assistant was very upset. Paterno called Tim Curely, PSU Athletic Director, to his home the very next day, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the showers fondling or doing something of a SEXUAL NATURE to a young boy."
If that had been Paterno's grandson naked in that shower he would have called the POLICE.
Joe Paterno will be remembered for turning his back on child sex abuse.

@scotteddins I agree. I feel for the victims and their families, and for all those good people at Penn State that had nothing to do with this and that will have to carry this terrible stigma for a long time.
@komscriv I understand where your coming from.....from an standpoint that concerns Paterno's employment with the university, he did all he could to a certain extent. McQueary should of seperated the two in the shower and just plain called the police, and once Paterno found out about it he should of too....along with every other person who found out about it.......that's the moral precept he broke, and that's why he was fired. It's all just so very sad.....
Here is a paragraph from Jerry Sandusky's book "Touched"
I had always professed that someday I would reap the benefits of maturity, but my lifestyle just wouldn't let me. There were so many things I had done in my life - so many of them crazy and outlandish. But I have always had fun, and one this is for certain: My time on this earth has always been unique. At the times when I found myself searching for maturity, I usually came up with insanity. That's the way it is in the life of Gerald
Arthur Sandusky ... Anyone who covered up for this sexual predator, in fear of what would happen to the institution of Penn State, sohuld be fired and if laws were broke (like perjury) then sent to jail.
When all this stuff finally ends up in a courtroom, Joe Paterno will be the states' star witness against Jerry Sandusky, if he doesn't testify, for any reason, the state of Pennsylvania will probably charge him too.......I can't even begin to imagine how many lives are ruined, starting with the KIDS...(most importantly)
The media at this press conference are a disgrace. In light of all of the issues surrounding this terrible situation, the first question that they jump to is "who's going to coach on Saturday?" My God, I know there has to be intelligent life somewhere in this section of the state, please somebody find them.
Some of these reporters questions are ridiculous. Talk about loaded. They should at least be honest and say that, even though they are reporters and even though they themselves don't have all the facts yet, they've already decided that Joe Paterno is above everyone else and shouldn't be fired. Now there's some fair and balanced reporting for you.
@komscriv Joe covered his ass legally, but he failed morally. Instead of going to the proper authorities after his superiors didn't, Joe decided to play the quiet game along with them. Now that it's all come out, he's basically saying: "look, I told my boss, it's not my fault!" That is wrong, because it did fall to him and any of those that knew to contact the authorities. Not a single one stepped up. More kids were abused. And Sandusky himself was spotted at Penn U in '07. With a boy.
@komscriv The campus police is tied to the university. Not only is there a conflict of interest there, but a campus police force is NOT the appropriate entity to investigate child sex abuse. That responsibility falls to the State authorities, child welfare services, etc. And those were the authorities that were not contacted.
From '02 to '11. That's how many extra YEARS Sandusky had to go on preying on kids. That's how many years Joe knew and kept quiet.
@komscriv The reason Joe Paterno was fired is simple......if he was aware of the alleged events, and it looks like he was, than every incident that occured after Sandusky's "retirement" was completely avoidable. He is not legally responsible, therefore he won't be charged. He IS morally responsible and didn't do anything thereafter. That is cause for termination.
@soxfan701 That's what I've been saying for the last few days, but these morons (and by morons I mean Paterno fanboys) treat him like a god amongst men. They've propped him up as their golden idol in their religion of football. It is really that simple, yet for all the common sense that people keep posting, those numbnuts continue to willfully ignore it. They care FAR more about the football program than they do about what happened to those kids.
Joe Paterno allowed Sandusky to bring a boy to PSU Practice in 2007
From the San Francisco Chronicle
"One of Sandusky's victims told the grand jury that he was brought to a Penn State PRACTICE in 2007 — five years after Penn State was made aware of Sandusky allegedly raping a child at PSU's football facility."
From the NY Daily News
"Sandusky was told by Curley not to bring children onto the campus, yet the coach was seen at a Penn State practice with a 12 year-old boy as recently as 2007"

Heard Joe Pa likes lil boys and to get on the football team you had to suk Pas penis and take it in the ass thats how he figured out who started on the football team....
I am not saying Paterno is GUILTY of criminal charges...I am just saying he showed poor ethics that is required from a head coach which is a good reason of firing him
thanks to all of u who are posting comments and are part of this discussion.it goes without saying how important this issue is ( victimization of children...not a job loss). The input of those who may have insight and perspectives that can help us process this insanity is much appreciated by me and i'm sure manyyyy others! keep it up christmas king and innismor11!! were listening....
What are they doing with a sick fag as a coach anyway? Everbody knows that these Queers love TWINKS ( young boys). I wonder how the pro-Queer media & Hollywood & the Democrat party are going to spin this?
The "reporters" (the majority of which HAD to be students) completely embarrassed Penn State even further. Get some perspective...good grief....FOOTBALL IS NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT HAPPENED TO THESE YOUNG PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!
.... and his legacy is destroyed .... minced. There'll be a number by his name alright, but it won't be 408 wins, or the number of bowl wins, or the number of seasons coached in Division I. It'll be the number of different child sexual assault victims introduced to Sandusky AFTER Paterno (et al) covered it all up (1998, or 2002). Some decisions are so important in life, and seemingly so tough, but they gotta be made. It's called moral duty; legally, 'moral turpitude'.
"As the graduate assistant entered the locker doors, he was surprised to find the lights and showers on. He then heard, rhythmic, slapping sounds. He believed the sounds to be those of sexual activity. As the graduate assistant put his sneakers into his locker, he looked into the shower. He saw a naked boy, Victim 2, whose age he estimated to be 10 years old, with his hands up against the wall, being subjected to anal intercourse by a naked Sandusky.
Wow, Penn has some really, really stupid media people (maybe they are all from the Penn State student paper?)" e.g., "How can you fire JoePa! There's going to rioting now on campus!!" -- yeah, that an excellent idea!! As a university we've covered this up for some 9 years (at least) already, so let's continue on with that, by putting our heads in the sand, even though we've all ready the grand jury report, including the interviews with Paterno et al, and the contradictions in who knew what when
Poor PR job. You don't take questions from the ravenous. You prepare a concise statement addressing most all the redeemable questions you expect are out there. and then you say thank you very much for your time once you're finished. These media know nothing, have done no research, and are just going to ask really inane questions that you have no good sounding answer for. This university is off the rails.
It is a sad ending for a 84 year old man who dedecated his life to a college. I really dont think Joe even knew the scope of what was going on. You have to remember this man grew up in a different world where these types of atrocities were never reported and hushed hushed.
@a6eBezerkur To quote your most observant statement: "I really don't think...." Maybe, you'd be best off stopping there, have a sit down and read the grand jury report (most cogent presentation of fats and alleged facts), ponder that a while, and then come back and say something cogent. Report is available and freep.
@TheChristmasKing Agreed. The whole bunch of them that knew or 'heard' at Penn/Pedd State. There might finally be a push to broaden the moral turpitude criminal law to force direct reporting to police (not 'employer', or employer's police) of child (to start) sexual assault. Children are the most vulnerable. JoePa (and those supporting him) has no clue, none. I mean, how do you explain what you didn't do to your children and grandchildren?
@innismor11 Yeah you got it, and how does Mcqueary(spelling ???) become the Recruiting coordinator. He has to go parents houses and tell them they should go to Penn State. How could he do that after this incident? He was given a job as part of the cover up - no question.
@TheChristmasKing I expect McQueery will be gone by the weekend. He may resign / be asked to. It'll be tough for him to stay on. Anyone that knew (and there seems to be about 6 of them (so far!)), will all have to go. If I am working in the development (fundraising) department, I don't want to answer the inevitable recurring question from prospective donors: "are any of 'them' still there? You start clean slate -- none are still here. It's why the President had to go (on his watch).
so because this is a high profile case DUE PROCESS is ignored? the law states INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY. we dont know the whole story until there is a trial or a confession. does it look suspect? of course it does and showering in this day in age even in a locker room with a child is not a good idea. Hell Michael Jackson slept in bed with children and who knows what else. And look at him now how he is celebrated like a saint. This is a fucking witch hunt. ok bring it on.
@a6eBezerkur let's see what you have to say about it after some old fart takes you up the butt..... read the grand jury report, and then live in less ignorance.
@a6eBezerkur You don't need to go to court to get fired. I got fired from a job before...and we didn't go to court. We're not saying his guilty of criminal charge but he deserves to be fired for having poor ethics
FUCC THAT I BET PATERNO RAPED LIL BOYZ TOO HE LOOKS LIKE A BUTT SNIFFER LOOK AT THAT FACE.THATS WHY HE COVERED IT UP PATERNO IS A PERV PATERNO IS A PERV PATERNO IS A PERV
@algoqueeuvalembrar 'Moment' ...... culminating a full 15 years of the same continuous ignoring of children being molested (and sexually raped/assaulted). No one wants to rat on a friend, hurt the program, hurt the university ..... well, now there's way more damage than if they'd simply taken their lumps real early. This is the stuff development offices (fundraising) has nightmares about.
"Who's going to coach on Saturday?" Give Penn State Football the DEATH PENALTY and do it now. I NEVER want to see Penn State play another football game EVER!!!
SAY IT AINT SO JOE SAY IT AINT SO! YOUR NOT TO BLAME ITS THAT PERVERT SANDUSKY HOPE HE GETS TAKEN CARE OF IN THE JOINT EVEN PEOPLE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE LAW/SOCIETY 1 THING DONT GO FOR IS CHILD MOLESTERS BUT DONT THROW JOE UNDER THE BUS

"Sandusky was told by Curley not to bring children onto the campus, yet the coach was seen at a Penn State practice with a 12- or-13-year-old boy as recently as 2007."
sick. disgusting and puke. this is an injustice to human persons and Penn State allowed it over 10 years...all of them in leadership.......disgusting. what a pathetic institution for allowing such evil atrocities including Paterno.....he was held accountable for his disgusting acts of DOING NOTHING to those vulnerable....and as he was raised to glory...HE HAS BEEN CAST OUT....hurled into nothingness.
After this whole scandal is dealt with and if Penn State is still standing, they might want to totally redo their Communications program. It's pretty obvious these "student reporters" don't have a clue about journalism or real life in general. Really sad. With that said, John Surma did a fine job fielding these pathetic questions.
he told his boss, then washed his hands of the children being raped,
way to step up JOE!!!! if I see your 8 year old grandson being raped I'll tell my boss and hope HE does something. fuck you people supporting his moral cowardice.
@angryamerican What did Paterno do to force his retirement? saying he is not going to be the next head coach of PSU? That is not a "force". Since you are apt to blame Joe for everyhting, how about the Investigator, Jerry Lauro, who investigated the 1998 claims? What about Victim 2, when the assistant witnessed it and reported it to the director of "The Second Mile", and they did nothing. Lot more people than Joe are at blame. Joe did report it to his bosses, they failed everyone.
@OBmaster Of course there were other scumbags, no one is arguing against that. But this is a video that focuses on Joe, and so the conversations are going to be focused on Joe. Go to a video that features Sandusky, McQueary, or other culprits, and you'll see plenty of discussion aimed at each of those shitheads.
@angryamerican There was also Victim 8, witnessed by the janitor, all he did was tell his co-workers, NONE of them reported anything. The Mother of Victim 6, approached Sandusky, but did not follow through as much as she should have. The Child Protection Agency had looked into Sandusky in 98 and 02. There are just TOO many people that failed these victims to be putting all the focus and blame on Joe.
I am NOT putting all the focus on Paterno. Mike McQueary WITNESSED a little10 yr old boy being raped in PSU Football Showers!! And he didn't help and walked away! He did get PROMOTED shortly after.
The district attorney that chose not to prosecute Sandusky in 1998 has DISAPPEARED and officially declared dead just this year!
Joe Paterno knew what Sandusky was and allowed him to bring new victims to practice from 2003 to 2011!!!!!
@angryamerican Seen at practice with little boys? U fucking idiot these are grown men in college that go to practice learn what the fuck you are talking about before you starting running your god damn mouth you stupid ignorant cunt. The children were at mini camps held at psu not a fucking practice.
"One of Sandusky's victims told the grand jury that he was brought to a Penn State PRACTICE in 2007 — five years after Penn State was made aware of Sandusky allegedly raping a child at PSU's football facility."
From the NY Daily News:
"Sandusky was told by Curley not to bring children onto the campus, yet the coach was seen at a Penn State practice with a 12- or-13-year-old boy as recently as 2007."
Sandusky brought boy to PSU Practice in 2007! Immoral Paterno.
From the San Francisco Chronicle
"One of Sandusky's victims told the grand jury that he was brought to a Penn State PRACTICE in 2007 — five years after Penn State was made aware of Sandusky allegedly raping a child at PSU's football facility."
From the NY Daily News
"Sandusky was told by Curley not to bring children onto the campus, yet the coach was seen at a PSU practice with a 12 year-old boy as recently as 2007."
The rioting by the student body and the fact that the first question in the press conference was: Who will coach the game on Saturday? shows the Penn State community's callous disregard toward the victims and this whole terrible affair. I feel for yall but football is a game. This is real life.
if the real victims were so concerned why do they wait till now to come out? because of the press. also how is mcqueery not fired when he is the person that saw it himself and only told joe pa that sandusky was being innapropriate. how the fuck does that make Joe Pa responsible when he told the athletic directior. so disrespectful to not let him coach one more game when he is such a good person who has done sooo much for penn st as a whole, not even the football team
It makes him responsible because after he passed on the information to his superiors, and they didn't do shit about it, Joe kept quiet right along with them, instead of doing the honorable thing and contacting the authorities himself. Any good that he has done is pretty much negated by the monstrous implications of his actions. By not going to the police, he (and the others involved) gave Sandusky about eight more years to go and have a chance at molesting kids.
I wish the board just came straight out and say why did they fire Joe. They tip-toed around the whole subject and contradicted themselves 7 ways to Sunday. Of course that was expected, they did not even have the balls to go to Joe's house and tell him in person. It is not like they didn't know where he lived, he has been living in the same house for over 50 years.
good job to the penn state trusties for getting rid of joe paterno it was a very tough choice to make I know thought the same way when fsu fired bobby bowden now is the time to start over
dude calm down i know the situation was very wrong and sandasky should go to prision but the facts are joe did not know that was happening. his assiant told him that that sandasky was messing around with him in the shower not raping him if he would have known that he would have done something about it if you want to blame someone blame mike mcqurrey the the assiant coach he saw the whole thing but yet he not fired I ask you where is the justice in that. joe is a good man. go psu
People who defend Joe Paterno as a coach are right. The man was a great coach and a legacy. Nothing will change his coaching career. Joe Paterno as a man and his character however is ruined and rightfully so. Anyone who has extensive knowledge of a child molestation ring and aids in trying to cover it up has no values or morals. Paterno put the football program as a higher priority than the safety of young boys. Deplorable, and Paterno deserves being fired if not more.
@doseofreality100 Last I checked aiding in trying to cover up serious crimes is also a crime. Aiding and abetting is what it is called. Due to his status and age though I doubt paterno will see any more legal action his way. The higher ups though, president, AD, etc, will more than likely face criminal charges for covering this up. If not I have lost all little faith I already had in our court system. If you haven't read the grand jury report I highly suggest doing so. It will make you ill.
@doseofreality100 Absolutely. It seems that most of these dick-riders are focusing on the douchebag's on-the-field accomplishments, and trying as hard as they can to make it seem like he was innocent and not at fault. It's inexcusable, what he did (or didn't do), but fanboys will be fanboys.
Joe, Mike Mcqueary, and everyone else that knew what happened had the Duty to Report the abuse to police - Child Protection Law. Anyone in the education system who witnesses, or suspects abuse has the Duty to Report. But to witness it and walk away without doing anything to stop it at that moment - just telling your boss, is reprehensible. How could someone witness that first hand and do Nothing to stop it at that moment? No inner moral voice shouted Get that guy off that kid??? criminal
JoePa let a sodemite roam his sidelines knowing that he was accused of molestation in 98, everyone who let these kids continue to get hurt are guilty even the grad asst. Penn State should be called PEDO STATE because everyone including the Pres. and other school officials let these kids get hurt to win games and preserve the schools rep. I could give a good godamn about Joe Pat repetation all of that got thrown out the window when he turned his head.
Sandusky should be castrated and someone should push a broom stick up his ass over and over. I believe everyone that was on the coaching staff from 2000 to 2004 should be FIRED because they knew this man was a Pedofile, he used that charity as his own personal hunting ground.
Its obvious who the moron students are here. Lobbing idiotic questions. Everyone knows Penn State is no Harvard but come on guys. Some of those student 'reporters are about to cry. Also awesome FIRST question: "Who will couch the team on Saturday?" Nice work Penn State J school.
Is obvious who the moron students are here. Lobbing idiotic questions. Everyone knows Penn State is no Harvard but come on guys. Some of those student 'reporters are about to cry. Also awesome FIRST question: "Who will couch the team on Saturday?" Nice work Penn State J school.
Paterno KNEW and looked the other way. My Italian father would have gone to the cops only after he neutered the pedophile pervert. Joe showed us he is nothing but a tiny man who was determined to win football at any cost. Thank God for that Board of Trustees.
This is a sad day for all..most especially the victims. I in no way mean to belittle their suffering or be oblivious to all of the people who failed these children but I dont quite understand why so much has fallen on Joe Paterno when in fact he did not commit these devilish acts. WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT SANDUSKY????!!!!!!!
Keeping a football coach for 46 years is the dumbest thing in the world. How selfish can a school be? How many coaches denied the head coaching position because they kept this guy for so many decades???
He has been coach there since 1966.....are you kidding me!!!!!!!! No school should allow anyone to be in a position of power for that long....NOBODY
THIS is the reason why all this went down......he was there too long and was like God
Joe Paterno was not a scap-goat. The school president was fired also & they will be many more people fired. JoePa is in the spot light because he is famous.
A district attorney vanishes after being assigned the case years ago. A vast, conspiring network of co-conspirators hold knowledge of these crimes, but nobody does anything about it until a welfare mother won't shut up until the justice is served.
Sounds like a bunch of high-degreed Freemason judges, lawyers and prominent "people" finding Lucifer in the anal regions of pre-pubescent boys. Just like they have done again and again and again.
McQueary was a 28 year old, 6'4" 240 lb. quarterback who would not help a ten year old, being raped in the locker room shower by a 50 year old man. It is the believability of his testimony as to what he saw and how he reported this that is at issue.
There were enough issues that Paterno should have known better and kept Sandusky away from that campus.

Shubael1809 3 months ago
@Shubael1809 There's a place for both sports and the arts in education. While this was a very tragic episode, sports can be a very valuable way to learn about teamwork, discipline, etc. Sometimes sports does have too much value placed on it by fans and society in general, but it can be helpful to the players involved. As a fan of sports and the arts, placing more emphasis on the arts would be a good thing. However, there's a place for both of them.

Berthasfave1 3 months ago

Berthasfave1 2 months ago
@Berthasfave1 buddy sandusky rather than report it. Yeah he reported it to shultz and curley but a man of joepas character shoulda done more. FOr that matter I think everyone who knew and covered it up internally should be sacked (some BOT members had to have known. But back to my point there are so many great things about PSU (look up penn state THON on youtube). Its not the entire school, and its not all the students or teachers. Its a few men who we entrusted as our leaders who failed.
kmtb1991 2 months ago
@kmtb1991 how do we get these idiots removed??? How come Curley is still on payroll??? And the other one on retirement. they also gave him a 2 minute phone call saying he was fired. so disrespectful
kmtb1991 1 month ago
@komscriv I believe McQueary is now on administrative leave, and probably won't be back at PSU. As far as Schultz and Sandusky's pensions, PSU may be bound contractually at the moment. That may change in time. If any member of the board was aware, they should step down. I'm not sure if there is any explanation for pedophilia, but if there are underlying causes, they should be explored. For now though, he needs to be prosecuted and held accountable. His actions have caused great harm to children.
Berthasfave1 3 months ago
@komscriv He was fired for reasons both fact-based and opinion-based. The facts in the grand jury presentment show he was aware of Sandusky's behavior. I believe the final straw was when Paterno told the board in his retirement statement to "not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to discuss." Telling them to mind their own business, when the football program is their business, seemed as if Paterno felt he ran the university. That is the B of T's job.
Berthasfave1 3 months ago
@komscriv The only thing that can be proven or disproven are facts, and from what we know now, Paterno appears to have fulfilled his legal obligation. As to whether he fulfilled his moral obligation, that is a matter of opinon based on facts, and is subjective. Some may believe that he did enough morally by telling Curley, others believe Paterno should've done more. I believe he could have and should have done more.

Shubael1809 3 months ago
For all those years, '02 to '11, Joe Paterno knew that abuse of a sexual nature had happened in that locker room to a young boy. All those years, after passing the buck to his superiors, he kept quiet.
He knew.
And there is nothing you fuckheads can say that will ever make that right.
You can all go eat shit.
ktherock7 3 months ago
Since you fanboys keep moaning about proof, here's an excerpt from the grand jury report, page 7:
"Paterno called Tim Curley("Curley"), Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his home the very next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building showers fondling or doing something of a sexual nature ot a young boy."
He knew, and you fuckers are the worst of the worst for defending him.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv Paterno's actions were immoral. Prove to me how it is not immoral to keep from the proper authorities (not the campus cops, whose leader ended up being one of those involved in the cover-up) the knowledge of a child rape for all those years, from '02 to '11, and leaving Sandusky the time and freedom to go on abusing boys.
Please tell me how that is not immoral. Prove it to me, since you are so obsessed with proof yourself.
ktherock7 3 months ago
Does anybody know any information about a District Attorney missing that was involved in this case?
scotteddins 3 months ago
@komscriv Nope. I don't have to prove shit to people like you, who are so deeply engaged in your fantasy of half-truths that you just want so desperately to be able to exonerate this pathetic excuse for a human being.
Prove to me that you can be a rational human being and recognize that Joe was at fault and didn't do enough.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv Joe claims that he was told they were "horsing around." McQueary was a lowly grad assitant at that time, the lowest position on Joe's staff. The mightiest and the lowest in a meeting. Are you seriously going to sit there and say that McQueary didn't tell Joe the truth? And if so, then why was Sandusky barred from the team's facilities? You don't bar someone if you don't suspect something serious going on.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv A smear campaign? Wow. Show a bunch of fanboys the error of their ways, and they immediately go into conspiracy theory mode.
I am not a part of any concerted "smear campaign." I am just an outraged civilian, one who despises people like you for trying to defend this terrible pedophile enabler. I am only having my say. Truth hurts.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv I'm sorry, but I focused on McQueary's testimony, where he tells in explicit detail about the rape of a boy in a locker room shower. The same thing he told Joe without skimping on details.
But you fully support the pedophile enabler, so I guess you don't care about that.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv You are pathetic. He covered his ass legaly, but he failed logically and morally. The true facts are not an inconvenient obstacle. And no, the shit you've been spewing is not all fact, but rather half-truths to support your own opinion.
If you cannot see how he failed logically and morally, then you are as terrible a person as he is. Just deplorable.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv It is not a false accusation. The man knew about the rape. He told his bosses. They didn't do shit. He didn't do shit until several years later when the grand jury came sniffing around.
What is so difficult to understand about that? How can you Paterno fanboys blind yourselves to the point of negligence? How can you continue to support a man whose inaction led to the sexual abuse of children?
In a way, you are doing a huge disservice to the victims and their families.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv No, he knew in detail about it. You don't bar a person from a campus (which is the extent of what the PSU authorities did) without knowledge of something serious going on.
There is no political overtone here, your poor, pathetic excuse of a mind is seeing things that are not there. This is purely about a man that didn't do enough to protect kids from a sexual predator, and about those poor sacks of shit that still try to defend him as if he did the right thing.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv They have as much authority, but are you seriously going to argue that they have the expertise and technical knowledge as sex crimes units that specialize in rape investigations? You are clearly too deluded by your love of football to be thinking straight if you do.
The fact that there was an investigation in 1998 that fell apart does not, IN ANY WAY, absolve Joe of keeping knowledge of the rape of a boy in '02 to himself for almost an entire decade after the fact.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv No, numbnuts. The campus police has ties to the university, and aside from the obvious conflict of interest, they are the LEAST equipped law enforcement entity to handle this kind of case. History has proven that in the past with rape and murder cases across the nation's campuses. Do a simple google search, it's not that hard.
The state authorities, child welfare services...that kind of entity should have been notified. Sadly, they weren't.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv And Joe did nothing as well. For all those years he knew about the rape of that boy, and he kept that knowledge to himself along with McQueary, Curley, Schultz, and any other fuck that knew about this.
When I use the word morality, I speak of the higher responsibility that any human being has to his fellow man, and to children everywhere. The duty to protect, to defend those that can't defend themselves. Joe failed in this, and nothing you fanboys say can disprove that.

19TommyT74 3 months ago
When all this stuff finally ends up in a courtroom, Joe Paterno will be the states' star witness against Jerry Sandusky, if he doesn't testify, for any reason, the state of Pennsylvania will probably charge him too.......I can't even begin to imagine how many lives are ruined, starting with the KIDS...(most importantly)
soxfan701 3 months ago
The media at this press conference are a disgrace. In light of all of the issues surrounding this terrible situation, the first question that they jump to is "who's going to coach on Saturday?" My God, I know there has to be intelligent life somewhere in this section of the state, please somebody find them.
nukum239 3 months ago
Some of these reporters questions are ridiculous. Talk about loaded. They should at least be honest and say that, even though they are reporters and even though they themselves don't have all the facts yet, they've already decided that Joe Paterno is above everyone else and shouldn't be fired. Now there's some fair and balanced reporting for you.
rockit730 3 months ago
@komscriv Joe covered his ass legally, but he failed morally. Instead of going to the proper authorities after his superiors didn't, Joe decided to play the quiet game along with them. Now that it's all come out, he's basically saying: "look, I told my boss, it's not my fault!" That is wrong, because it did fall to him and any of those that knew to contact the authorities. Not a single one stepped up. More kids were abused. And Sandusky himself was spotted at Penn U in '07. With a boy.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@komscriv The campus police is tied to the university. Not only is there a conflict of interest there, but a campus police force is NOT the appropriate entity to investigate child sex abuse. That responsibility falls to the State authorities, child welfare services, etc. And those were the authorities that were not contacted.
From '02 to '11. That's how many extra YEARS Sandusky had to go on preying on kids. That's how many years Joe knew and kept quiet.

Sorry kids, but the entire football program at Penn State needs to be shutdown and rebuilt from the ground up.
StarFighter2000 3 months ago
@komscriv The reason Joe Paterno was fired is simple......if he was aware of the alleged events, and it looks like he was, than every incident that occured after Sandusky's "retirement" was completely avoidable. He is not legally responsible, therefore he won't be charged. He IS morally responsible and didn't do anything thereafter. That is cause for termination.
soxfan701 3 months ago

"Sandusky was told by Curley not to bring children onto the campus, yet the coach was seen at a Penn State practice with a 12 year-old boy as recently as 2007"

.... and his legacy is destroyed ....

Wow, Penn has some really, really stupid media people (maybe they are all from the Penn State student paper?)" e.g., "How can you fire JoePa! There's going to rioting now on campus!!" -- yeah, that an excellent idea!! As a university we've covered this up for some 9 years (at least) already, so let's continue on with that, by putting our heads in the sand, even though we've all ready the grand jury report, including the interviews with Paterno et al, and the contradictions in who knew what when
innismor11 3 months ago
Poor PR job. You don't take questions from the ravenous. You prepare a concise statement addressing most all the redeemable questions you expect are out there. and then you say thank you very much for your time once you're finished. These media know nothing, have done no research, and are just going to ask really inane questions that you have no good sounding answer for. This university is off the rails.

It is a sad ending for a 84 year old man who dedecated his life to a college. I really dont think Joe even knew the scope of what was going on. You have to remember this man grew up in a different world where these types of atrocities were never reported and hushed hushed.

@a6eBezerkur To quote your most observant statement: "I really don't think...." Report is available and freep.

I mean, how do you explain what you didn't do to your children and grandchildren?
innismor11 3 months ago
@innismor11 Yeah you got it, and how does Mcqueary(spelling ???) become the Recruiting coordinator. He has to go parents houses and tell them they should go to Penn State. How could he do that after this incident? He was given a job as part of the cover up - no question.
TheChristmasKing 3 months ago
@TheChristmasKing I expect McQueery will be gone by the weekend. He may resign / be asked to. It'll be tough for him to stay on. Anyone that knew (and there seems to be about 6 of them (so far!)), will all have to go. If I am working in the development (fundraising) department, I don't want to answer the inevitable recurring question from prospective donors: "are any of 'them' still there? You start clean slate -- none are still here. It's why the President had to go (on his watch).

1998 Sandusky accused of child rape.
1999 Paterno forces Sandusky to retire.
2002 Eye Witness sees Sandusky RAPING A 10 YEAR OLD BOY in Penn State's Showers!
2003-2011 Sandusky seen at PRACTICE with LITTLE BOYS.
Paterno knew and did NOTHING.
Paterno and McQueary saw Sandusky bringing new victims to their practices from 2003 to 2011 and did NOTHING.
Joe Paterno is SELFISH and IMMORAL.
angryamerican 3 months ago 13
@angryamerican What did Paterno do to force his retirement? saying he is not going to be the next head coach of PSU? That is not a "force". Since you are apt to blame Joe for everyhting, how about the Investigator, Jerry Lauro, who investigated the 1998 claims? What about Victim 2, when the assistant witnessed it and reported it to the director of "The Second Mile", and they did nothing. Lot more people than Joe are at blame. Joe did report it to his bosses, they failed everyone.
OBmaster 3 months ago
@OBmaster Of course there were other scumbags, no one is arguing against that. But this is a video that focuses on Joe, and so the conversations are going to be focused on Joe. Go to a video that features Sandusky, McQueary, or other culprits, and you'll see plenty of discussion aimed at each of those shitheads.
ktherock7 3 months ago
@angryamerican There was also Victim 8, witnessed by the janitor, all he did was tell his co-workers, NONE of them reported anything. The Mother of Victim 6, approached Sandusky, but did not follow through as much as she should have. The Child Protection Agency had looked into Sandusky in 98 and 02. There are just TOO many people that failed these victims to be putting all the focus and blame on Joe.
OBmaster 3 months ago
@OBmaster
Disgusting!!!!!

In 1998 Sandusky was Paterno's Defensive Coordinator!
From the Chicago Tribune:
"I wish I were dead.'' — Jerry Sandusky in May 1998.
Two detectives from local police agencies overheard former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky admit to the mother of an 11-year-old boy
"I was wrong," Sandusky said, according to a Pennsylvania grand jury document released Saturday. "I wish I could get forgiveness. I wish I were dead"

The rioting by the student body and the fact that the first question in the press conference was: Who will coach the game on Saturday? shows the Penn State community's callous disregard toward the victims and this whole terrible affair. I feel for yall but football is a game. This is real life.
RDP41202 3 months ago
if the real victims were so concerned why do they wait till now to come out? because of the press. also how is mcqueery not fired when he is the person that saw it himself and only told joe pa that sandusky was being innapropriate. how the fuck does that make Joe Pa responsible when he told the athletic directior. so disrespectful to not let him coach one more game when he is such a good person who has done sooo much for penn st as a whole, not even the football team
KOsoccer17 3 months ago
@KOsoccer17 ....

Deplorable, and Paterno deserves being fired if not more.
doseofreality100 3 months ago
@doseofreality100 Last I checked aiding in trying to cover up serious crimes is also a crime. Aiding and abetting is what it is called. Due to his status and age though I doubt paterno will see any more legal action his way. The higher ups though, president, AD, etc, will more than likely face criminal charges for covering this up. If not I have lost all little faith I already had in our court system. If you haven't read the grand jury report I highly suggest doing so. It will make you ill.
doseofreality100 3 months ago

No inner moral voice shouted Get that guy off that kid??? criminal

Just like they have done again and again and again.
thechangeling613 3 months ago 2
McQueary was a 28 year old, 6'4" 240 lb. quarterback who would not help a ten year old, being raped in the locker room shower by a 50 year old man. It is the believability of his testimony as to what he saw and how he reported this that is at issue.
There were enough issues that Paterno should have known better and kept Sandusky away from that campus.
