  • Although the word's origin is Javanese, its etymology may be either from the Javanese amba ('to write') and titik ('dot' or 'point'), or constructed from a hypothetical Proto-Austronesian root *beCík, meaning 'to tattoo' from the use of a needle in the process. The word is first recorded in English in the Encyclopædia Britannica of 1880, in which it is spelt battik. It is attested in Indonesian Archipelago of the Dutch colonial period in the various forms mbatek, mbatik, batek and batik.

  • Malaysia, Japan, UK, and the US, stop stealing Indonesian batik through patents!!!

To Malaysians, our batik are DIFFERENT, so stick with your own batik and leave Indonesian batik, as superior they are, alone!!!

TO Indonesian government: shame shame shame on you to let these countries steal our heritage!

To Indonesian people: show that you care and let them hear your voice!!

  • i agree....

  • Does it wrong to learn other langguages or technologies? I wonder how this world would be if we can't cheerlish each other culture or talent.. hmmm

I'm not represent anybody here but.. just my thought.. ;)

  • Nothing wrong with it, yes, as long as you inform others where you get it from! just like putting citations in writing papers, if you dont do it then it's a violation of intellectual property right? now put it in the context of this whole Batik business... If Batik is a car, Ford shouldnt claim property on Jaguar cars!
