Heinrich Zimmer was introduced to me by our Myth master John David Ebert. If you like his book you should also see his lectures on Zimmer at his youtube channel. Practically a whole course on the subject!
Nothing, to the contrary, is observed continuously. Without the creative void as a baseline and a reference, the "absoluteness" of existence would be meaningless.
In fact, the only "constant" in our existence IS nothingness.
Time is the "spacer" (in a temporal sense) that provides the sequence within nothingness for that which exists. Possibilities are the "creative" potential of the void to accept and allow manifestations of our reality.
These are related by and through our conscious awareness.
The real zen moment for me in the video was when you said "Not all possibilities will be actualized" and the paradoxical 2D object popped up on the screen. I think that visual plus those words were more powerful then you think.
This is an excellent video. Thank you very much for posting it. I've been wrestling with "Being and Nothingness" for over a year now, and your videos have really helped me make sense of it. Thanks for making such an "obscure," elusive "notion" intelligible.
isn't it fitting that there was "The Prestige" here just televised... there is something of nothing in everything. i've recently re-watched (by idle re-stumble) a talk by penrose where he is proposing that in order for universe to "smoothly" bounce at the end of infinity there really is a need for informational discontinuity inside of black holes. two most recent ones under roger on pirsa. org.
They have you beat a few years on the same concepts and ideas. See this is why I listen to music more than people. Music artists have it on the ball and have for a long time now.
Most people in the main stream of all of this the mass want to live in the illusion. Their so called nothing, instead of getting up, going outside and trying to make something real. Man all this high end brain talk is getting to me. Just be real guys. Just be real.
Do you even know the context of what we mean by nothing?
I dont believe that there is nothing. It is a perception. As well what people want me to believe is that those who use this site on camera, do not exist in the world. Well I know that is not the case because I have been to events and seen people who use this site in the flesh. So the whole this is an illusion or delusion route does not work. It is just people who do not want to make me reality, because that would require change.
Excellent Video. We all revovle our lives on the various forms of nothingness or of non-being. It's a very integral part of existence, or possibly existence itself I guess?...But there is of course the fact matter and space exist (or according to our senses that is) so it's a sort of duality. We may dwell on the forms of non-being but we can make nothing into something, then we just repeat the process...over and over and over again. Well that's my understanding..
great vid, but i dont get the connection between what Sartre calls imagination, that is the ability to relate to what is not the case, and nothing as the shoreless sea. In what is metaphysics Heidegger talks about how nothing is the origin of negation. Is it because we hold "something" up against baing-nothingsness in the Heideggererian sense? If you answered it I'm sorry but I'm lost here. If being is no-thing, then of cource thought is also nothing, but they seem to be different nothings
I paid no money 4 this fantasy: A fantasy that it is 2 NOthing that I/we owe my/our very lives. <& by this I'm not pointing to a SOMEthing but the redoubled NOthing. VAG
A SOMEthing that is not )the case( is a thing, which is other than the audience sitting in the theatre
What IS the NOthingness driving the drive/desire to call NOthing real?
"...what is & remains 'as it is' 'what is only as it is' remains Forever unable to become SOMEThing else" <-That goes w/o saying
It seems that inside of Man there is a hole of the size of All That Is.

Yaknow stringing words together in a seemingly coherent manner does not make you a poetic genius, nor does it make you an intellectual.

So can we think nothing?
I think not.
But we can see that nothing reveals itself in non-nothings...which is something.

If you find poetry in the infinite you must be VERY open-minded.

hell yes, it's surdly ab, that's for sure, yet you're a poem I'm a poem and everybody gotta go, though am not openminded at all, that's my guess,
almafarag 2 years ago
@almafarag
My grasp on poetry is rather limited and yes I guess we are all poems in so far as we are temporary denials of nothingness/the infinite.
And if I had to sum up the essence of good poetry it'd be like this: Nothing is here to stay.

I've watched this video twice and the best I can draw from this is an immense work of equivocation when using the words "not", "nothing", and "non".

People often say: "I don't believe it until I see it."
masterm1k3 2 years ago
They also often say, "Things were not what I thought they'd be." They do not say, "I foolishly took my thoughts as other than nothing."

I submit that this video was about nothing in particular! Its subject matter does not exist! You are speaking of things that just aren't the case!
No but seriously, very enjoyable and thought-provoking.
